Weather/ What to Pack Remember Chile is in the southern hemisphere, so some parts may be quite warm, especially because you are going in December. Remember our winter is their summer. In the northern section of Chile the weather is warm and dry. As you move south a little more you will find that it is still warm, but there is more rain. The far south gets very cold. This trip will be mostly in the central section so pack accordingly. You will probably need a few pairs of shorts along with some pants for hiking. Don’t make them too heavy. For girls you can bring a few fancy dresses for restaurants, but don’t overdo it. Mostly bring shorts and skirts. You can also bring bathing suits for swimming. Pack nice comfortable shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. For shirts you can bring some tshirts, but also bring some long sleeve shirts. A hat is advisable and so is sunscreen and bug spray. Make sure it is travel size though. Remember at the beginning of December the temp will range from low eighties to high eighties. In Chile the lows are about 10 C while the highs are 30 C. (50 degrees farenheit) and (about 90 degrees farenheit).
Currency- The Chilean Peso Remember the currency is not at all the same as the USD. First of all you will notice that the colors are much brighter. It’s hard to lose. The official exchange rate is 1 USD = 473.99754 CLP.

Santiago day 2 This will be your first full day in Santiago. You can wake up around 9:00 and have a full buffet breakfast in your hotel. Now you have many choices for what to do. First of all you should visit San Christobal Hill. This isn’t just your normal hill. After hiking to the top you get a great view along with a statue of the Virgin Mary. Not only that, but this is a park so you can picnic or just walk around. While you’re here why not visit the Chilean National zoo. It is built on this hillside. There are many exotic animals and birds. On the hot days ice cream venders come out and sell many flavors of ice cream. Watch the crowds though. This is a very popular place.
To get the best of Santiago why not take a tour. This is a bus tour and it will pick you up at your hotel and drop you back off. You get to see the best of Santiago without even walking. The total cost is about $180. For lunch you can take a risk by eating the street food or just grab a sandwich.
If you are adventurous or just want to cool off why not go to the Embalse y Yeso Reservoir. Its beautiful turquoise waters are perfect homes for fish. You could fish, swim and windsurf. It was formed by the damming of the Yeso river.

Want to see the sea life around Chile? Well let’s go diving. This is an optional activity because you need to be certified to do it, but it’s definitely worth it. Get a professional guide and go out to sea. See multiple wrecks, colorful fish, and even sharks! Don’t worry their not at all dangerous. This excursion will cost about $400- $600 USD.
How about a little more low key. Let’s go to the playa Canelo. This beautiful beach can be crowded, but it is very worth it. The blue water spans out forever while warm waves lap your feet. The perfect thing for this weather! Just grab a sandwich if you’re hungry.
Why not visit the historical section of Valparaiso? These beautiful buildings line every street. You don’t need a tour guide for this. Just make your way down the street and stop to shop.
