The Squire’s Tale By Ronan Boyarski

nce, not so long ago, a man named Alistair became a squire. He was very kind, and was a man who would grow up to be strong. He had defined muscles, long legs, and strong arms. He had navy blue eyes and such confidence he looked as if he was willing to have a staring contest with the sun and actually expected to win. Eventually, he was knighted, and defended the peasants and the church. He was a noble fellow, and took part in many tournaments. He was a common winner, trying to better his strategies in every match. He used his winnings to buy new armor and learn new things. At one point in Alistair’s career, a tournament was hosted. The tournament was vicious, with a few hundred competitors. Many died, and, about to die, the brave knight dodged a blow. He struck back, sword’s clanging, maces smashing against armor. The crowd was going wild. The coats of arms of the knight’s shone brightly. The king’s professional team was closing in on the once powerful knight, now armor-less, Alistair. He only wore chain mail, and was about to be chopped to bits. He yelped, and rolled around, under the horses, and struck a man down to the ground with a deadly battle-axe blow to the back. The midday sun rolled in just in time as the king’s knights were overheating. Alistair, in chainmail, hadn’t broken a sweat. However, a few more knights attacked, and Alistair, very tired, had nothing left in him. He hit one knight, with a particularly elegant horse, in the chest with a mace. He fell off, and Alistair hopped on the horse, and, rather like a coward, ran off into the shady woods. The now stranded Alistair spent the next day searching for civilization, picking at the meats he had brought to the tournament. He would not easily be allowed back into his home village. He occasionally gazed at trees or picked flowers. He even tried to eat a few wild nuts and berries. But Alistair knew he would not last very long. He needed a new kind of help. And then Alistair heard talking. Just in the nick of time, Alistair thought. He slowly drew closer to the talking, peering through the dense forestry to spy on the men

talking. There were about twenty of them, each with a sword or spear and chain mail armor. They also had crossbows and a lucky few had some plate armor. Then, Alistair saw their leader. Their leader was huge, eight feet tall wielding a gargantuan spear and a large, jeweled sword. His muscles bulged and looked like he could give a herd of elephants a run for their money in a tug-of-war. He had blaze orange eyes and black slits for pupils. This man was a mythical creature, one of the few giants left roaming the earth. A large, strong man gave the giant a lamb, dead and roasted. “For you, my lord,” The man said in a deep voice. He placed the lamb at his feet. “You dare bring me such a small offering? You little runt. Do you actually know how hungry giants get? If you were no longer of any use to me, I would snap your pathetic little back and toss it to the wolves!” The giant shouted. His eyes began to glow. “You will not disappoint me again,” The giant continued. “Yes, my lord,” The warrior replied. “Wait,” The giant began, “I smell another human.” Murmurs began through the assembled crowd. “Get him here!” The giant ordered. Alistair was seen and gripped by hands as strong as iron. He was taken to the mythical giant. “Who are you and what do you want?” Alistair asked. The giant waited a few seconds, observing Alistair, clearly thinking hard. “I am Dakkenshmeir, and I want you to join our clan. You may not be big, but I sense something great in you” “I actually do need a new place. Fine, I will join your clan. Name your price,” Alistair decided. “In order to join this clan, you must slay the dragon Vorilanth, the most powerful beast we have ever known,” Dakkenshmeir said. “Fine, I shall go,” Alistair replied. “But I need better equipment.” Alistair was given a full set of plate armor, a map, and a sword capable of cutting stone like butter. He later set off on his expedition. He ate some of his food before coming to a problem. His map said he had to go through a cave of gigantic bats. A challenge which could trouble even the best of knights. These bats had fangs as sharp as knives, eyes as red as roses, and a terrible screech.

Alistair arrived at the cave and drew his sword. He walked closer, and pulled out his torch. He saw bats sleeping on the cave walls. He tiptoed further. Later, he tripped on an uprooted rock. He caught himself, but it made noise. Suddenly, the cave filled with hundreds of pairs of red eyes, glowing and illuminating the room. A terrible screech sounded, and all of a sudden Alistair was covered in bats. Then, he had an idea. He rolled around on what he thought was the floor, hopefully squishing the bats. It had worked. He grabbed his torch and lit it. He saw the exit. Well, one that was high up. Alistair was stuck. He then tried to climb the wall, which surprisingly worked. A great feat for sure. He journeyed forward for many days until he found the dragon. But first he had to pass the volcano. A fiery geyser shot up through the volcano. Lava was streaming down the sides. The dragon was in sight. Alistair walked up to Vorilanth. “Vorilanth, the mighty fire-breather, I come to slay you!” Alistair shouted. “Why do you attempt such a task? What offenses have I done to provoke your kind? What have I done wrong? I have only been staying at this volcano, waiting and doing what I like,” Vorilanth asked. “Wait, then why did my clan send me to kill you?” Alistair asked. Vorilanth stopped to think. “The many warrior clans think it holy to kill dragons. I have done nothing to harm humans, only to help them. I start their fires. I try to help destroy unwanted buildings,” Vorilanth answered. “May I ride you to my clan? They have ordered me to do something wrong. They need to learn a lesson,” Alistair said. “Yes, but do them no harm,” Vorilanth said. Alistair rode Vorilanth all the way back to the clan, enjoying the high view. He finally arrived at the clan who had sent him to try to kill Vorilanth. “Why did you send me to kill this dragon?” Alistair asked. “It will be your initiation. But the real reason is because when one wears dragon hide they become almost invulnerable,” Dakkenshmeir replied. “So you are an arrogant, power-hungry giant who is selfish. And you have minions to do your bidding. Not exactly a hero,” Alistair replied, “And do not try this again. Vorilanth knows every dragon in this land. Alistair and Vorilanth flew off into Alistair’s village, and lived in a humble little house with lots of farmland and firewood

for Vorilanth. They lived there without trouble for a long, long time. There was peace with mythical creatures for ages. Vorilanth and Alistair lived in peace. Dakkenshmeir lived in shame. All was as it should be.

A Knight’s Tale By: Nia Dowling nce Upon A Time, there lived a king and queen with their beloved daughter, Elizabeth. There was also a knight from a far-away land seeking fame and fortune. Elizabeth was confined to the palace compounds, and she had only seen her village once. She was a beautiful girl, with glowing cheeks and sunny blonde hair. She was also very stylish and wore the most beautiful dresses every day. They were often blue dresses with a wide skirt, or yellow, silk gowns. She was a very curious girl, she was a book worm, for she wanted to know lots of information about the places around her. Elizabeth’s parents were kind, yet very strict. The king was very old fashioned. The queen, from which Elizabeth had learned everything, was very much like Elizabeth. Although she belonged to the king and she had to go along with everything he said. They never let her leave the palace grounds, and what a beautiful place it was. The palace itself was not only strategic in a military way, it was the shining center of the kingdom. It was huge, and it glowed a whitish color. The castle was very extravagant, along with the king and queen’s taste in furniture and decor. The knight’s name was William, he was a very kind individual. He took very good care of his armor. It was shiny and blinded all of his adversaries. He always followed his code of chivalry, although he had never found a woman he could love. His master always kept him busy when it came to fighting, for he was excellent at it. Anyway, one day Elizabeth was feeling especially curious. She really wanted to go into the woods. So she thought up a scheme, she was to tell her parents she was going to the Wednesday market on her favorite, grey horse. For she was the only one who knew he could talk, she never talked about it to anyone. Then she was to ride off into the

woods as fast as she could. Never to look back. She would stay away for a day or so, then come back to the palace. Her parents would probably be very mad, but at least she would know what was in the woods. It was a plan sure to fail, but 13 years of imprisonment would make you do the strangest things. Then she picked herself up from her bed, and raced down to the kitchen. Where her parents were - ordering servants around. Telling them what to fix for lunch. Elizabeth walked right up to them and said “My dear parents, I do so want to go to the village to buy a loaf of bread from the baker. For he is such a kind man. And is easily bribed for a lower price. I will take my prized, ta.., grey stallion along for company.” “Yes of course dear, run along now, I will send some servants after you and tell them to hang back a bit, to give you some room to breathe,” “Thank you father, I do appreciate it!” said Elizabeth running out of the room before she could finish her sentence. Then Elizabeth said good afternoon to her dear horse, “Good Afternoon old chap, how are you?” “Very well thank you, and how are you my little princess?” “Doing well thank you,” putting on only the bridle, for she was going into the woods, and would not like to get her beautiful saddle dirty. And off she went galloping as fast as a racehorse. No need for her to worry about the servants her father sent, they probably hadn't made it down stairs yet. The woods were very dense and packed with lots of little rabbits, frogs and lots of insects, plus the occasional deer. It was quite a beautiful place, if one was given enough time to take in the entire wood. It stretched on for about half of the kingdom. Elizabeth made it into the woods, it was only then she realized she had no idea how to get out, for she had never gone off the palace grounds. Leave that one time. She asked her noble steed for advice, Thunder said to just start looking for a way out.

Days passed, Elizabeth was starving and parched, she needed water quench her thirst. After a week of hard searching for a way out of the woods, an unexpected thing happened. Deep in another section of the vast forest there was a knight, the same one as in the description before. In truth he was off to fight in a crusade for his beloved lord. He had broken off from the rest of the army, and gone through the dense woods, (in fact it took off about two weeks of travel to Jerusalem.) Elizabeth and the knight were fated to meet. As William (the knight), was heading east and Elizabeth west, trying to go back to her palace, one night they collided, literally. Elizabeth was on her stallion and the knight on his fine mare. They were both galloping and the horses ran into each other. The knight and Elizabeth both thought it was love at first sight. Then after about ten minutes of staring at each other the knight asked Elizabeth what she was doing in such fine clothes - and why she was in the woods. Elizabeth answered saying, “It is none of your business what I am doing, but I will tell you,” She went off telling him about her parents and how she ran away and how she got lost. Then the knight said what he was doing and where he was going, Elizabeth thought it fascinating. William thought it would be a good idea to get Elizabeth back home to her parents, they were probably worried sick. William said that she was headed entirely the wrong direction if she wanted to go back to her palace. Days of hard riding, and talking to each other, Elizabeth and William suddenly knew lots about each other. Finally, after towns and countryside, they made it to Elizabeth’s kingdom. Elizabeth’s parents were rejoicing to have their daughter back, they thanked dear William. Then later long days of celebration took place. After the fun they scolded her, for she lied to them. Elizabeth had learned her lesson. The king gave her more freedom, she made more friends at the Wednesday market.

About 13 years later, Elizabeth and William got married. It was a beautiful celebration, covered in white and red roses, and beautiful, silk banners. Everyone lived happily. When the king and queen passed, Elizabeth and William became the rulers of the vast kingdom. William, well he was glad he took that shortcut through the woods.

Canterbury Tale By: Benjamin Eddy nce there was a hobbit, oblivious to the rest of the world. He lived in his Hobbit house in the middle of the Shire. As he looked out the window, he could see the rest of the world going by. People in carts rode down the cobblestone paths and into the market, out of sight or to their homes. As he ate breakfast, a knock came to his door. “I wonder who that could be,” he said to himself. As he reached for the doorknob, he thought it was best to make sure it wasn't a prank. Sure enough he saw a small boy hiding in his bushes. After he had eaten breakfast, another knock came to his door.” This better not be another prank,” he said. As he looked out the peephole, a large eye stared back at him. ”AHHHHH,” he screamed! He slowly opened the door, expecting to be greeted by a neighbor. Instead 13 dwarves were at his doorstep. He knew these dwarves! They accompanied him on the trip to Erabor. He had defeated a dragon with them. As he whisked them into his house, another knock came. He decided to just open the door and not waste time looking. This time a large grey robe greeted him. “Gandalf,” he said in astonishment,” What brings you to my home on this day.” “I have come to invite you on a journey, Bilbo Baggins.” Gandalf bent his neck and crawled into the hobbits house. The dwarves were eating all the hobbits food and washing his dishes. None of them made any mess. Soon all the food was gone and the house was completely clean. “So what is this journey you want me to come on, “Bilbo asked. “We want you to help us capture the Iron Vikings and destroy their castle. They are evil and will destroy all of the forest if they aren’t stopped. “Bilbo agreed to come on the journey if he was treated well and got his fourteenth share of the loot. “I will come on this journey for your sake and not mine.” The next day the fifteen set off on their journey. As they reached the edge of the shire Bilbo reached for his sword and unsheathed it. The same sword was from his previous adventure to Erabor. He had found it in a trolls cave under a pile of rubble. Now he had this sword for many years and will have it for many years to come. As the sky became dark and torches were lit, wolves howled and bears growled. The fifteen trotted on in the dark. They could hear the Orcs howl and eagles screech as they fought throughout the night. As dawn came, deer ran through the forest and the fifteen caught and roasted one. After breakfast, they were off on their trip. The mountains were passing by like men in carriages. As the group approached the mordor mines, they could see goblins riding wolves on the top of the mountains. One goblin got too close and Thorin killed it with his dwarven sword. The rest of the way to the forest was peaceful and quiet. When

they got to the forest, Beorn greeted them with honey and warm meat. After a few hours at the edge of the forest, the group got food and started in.

Soon the trees covered all the light and made eerie shadows upon the ground. Giant spiders crawled through the canopy without a noise. The group neared a clearing. First came a blinding light, then a large grunt. Trolls, Bilbo thought. But as they came nearer to the clearing, they could see that it was a gigantic castle. “This must be the Iron Vikings’ fortress,” Thorin whispered softly. As soon as the fifteen came to the castle a giant orc appeared from the forest. Thorin lunged at it with his sword and struck it in the chest. He slid the blade down the orcs stomach, it’s entrails spilling onto the blood spattered ground. Seconds later a large army of orcs fully armed with battering rams and catapults appeared. A giant charged at Bilbo with incredible speed and knocked him to the ground. He got up and jumped onto it’s back. He struck his blade in the back of the giants head, mortally wounding it. When the giant got back up, Bilbo slit it’s throat, cut its stomach open and sliced it’s arms and legs off. It was down and very much dead. The battle ended, with the dwarves winning. They broke down the door to the castle and barged in. People in the village stared at them awkwardly. It was as if a siege was normal or weird. The fifteen walked sluggishly through the village and crept into homes. When they came upon the manor house, they could see people inside, working. They broke down the door and barged into the manor house. As they walked down the domed halls, they could hear people walking on the floor above them. It took them fifteen minutes to find and climb the spiral stairs. Once they got to the top of the staircase, they found hundreds of people dressed in blue robes lined in gold. They walked around with paintings and clothes in their heavily built arms. Thorin took one and pinned him to the wall. “What is this place,” Thorin asked. “It is the Iron Vikings manor house,” the slave squeaked, “and you are an intruder.” Thorin realized that the Iron Vikings were nothing more than settlers. “Would you destroy the forest” Thorin asked. “Why would we, if we don’t own weapons.” Thorin pondered this statement for a minute or two. “We are simply settlers, and only desire protection.” The only thing these people wanted was peace and protection. Without a word, Thorin and all the others left the village. Gandalf met them outside the walls and teleported them each back home. THE END

The Chef's Story By: Anthony Hearn

ne day when everyone was walking from London to Canterbury, there legs were aching, there energy was really low because the sun was blazing so bright, all they wanted to do was stop walking and take a small break. That is when the Masons and Carpenters sat down on the hay near a farm. They weren't just tired, they needed excitement! The Chef heard what they said and he wanted to put some smiles on them. The Chef sat down on another hay bale. The Chef said “How about a story, everybody loves stories.” “Sure why not, maybe it will bore me to death.” the Masons laughed. You should give the book a chance and you have not even heard it yet.” The Chef said. The Chef started his story, Once upon a time a long, long, long time ago, there was a brave man named Merlin. He was very tall and really strong, but he was not a knight, he worked for a beautiful woman named Mary and she was very polite and very sweet. She asked Merlin to take the rusty bucket to the well and fill it up with some water please. The only thing that Merlin said was “Anything

for you my lady. Merlin took the rusty bucket and started his journey to the well to fill the bucket with water. It did not really take that long, he just walked from the home to the other side of the woods. He was happy he got the water because all he wanted to do was make Mary happy. He was making his way up the hill when his jaw dropped. He dropped the rusty bucket and he ran to the house. Fire was everywhere, the house was torn to pieces and there was no sign of Mary. Merlin was freaking out because he did not want anything to happen to Mary. He looked for anything that would lead to where Mary was. Then he looked on the ground and saw he was standing right on a foot print. It was huge. He thought about something that was very big and breathes fire. Merlin’s eyes were very wide. “A dragon.” He sprinted to the nearest castle. He did not care how tired he was, all he wanted to do was get Mary back. Finally he reached the entrance of the castle and told the knights standing at the entrance if they saw a huge dragon flying through the sky. They thought Merlin was really crazy. Merlin asked if anyone had seen a dragon. Then a man with an eye patch on pulled Merlin besides a building. He was very old and his clothes were very dirty. The man lifted up his eye patch and there was a long scar running down his face. “That dragon

did this to me and I will never forget that day.” “Well do you know where this dragon is?” “The name be Fury. You will go down all the way to the woods and there will be a lot of cruel guards that you have to get past, after that you need to cross the mysterious river. Then you will reach the cave where Fury will be.” Thank you kind sir I will be on my way.” Merlin had reached the woods. The woods were very dark and you should not be in the woods at sunset. There was a sudden sound down the hill. It was the guards with battle axes and swords and heavy armor. ‘They don't really look the scary.” Then out of nowhere one of the knights had a bow and arrow and shot a flying bird out of the sky. “Ok I take that back.” Merlin was quietly tip toeing behind a tree when he got an idea. He could throw a rock to get the knights attention so he could easily run away. He picked up a cold rock and threw it like it was a bomb. All the knights ran where the rock was and Merlin ran away. “Success.” Merlin was a little close to the cave, all he needed to do was get past the mysterious river. It had finally reached dark and Merlin had no idea what was in the river. He thought for a little bit. “How could I get across?” There were a few long, thick sticks lying on the

[Type here]

[Type here]

[Type here]

ground. Then Merlin picked up the sticks and stood up on them like stilts. It was a little hard walking across a slimy river when you're on two long sticks. He was almost at the end of the river, but his sticks were almost about to snap. He jumped off and landed safely on land. When he finally caught his breath, all he saw was the dark cave right in front of him. He was on high alert for Fury the dragon. His foot stepped on something bony. Merlin picked up his foot and there was a skull right on the ground. Merlin ran in the cave and there she was. Mary was lying on the ground all cut up and bruised. “I have come for you my love.” “Merlin……is that………you.” “Don’t worry my love I will bring == you back to safety.” Merlin picked up Mary and ran out of the cave. Merlin had not yet met Fury yet but he was worried. They were now in the river. It was really sticky. In the trees, Merlin could hear something growl very low. “FURY.” A blue scaly dragon came out of the cave with sharp knives as teeth. Wings as long as a bus. Fury saw Merlin. He had reached the end of the river and hid Mary behind a tree. He had an idea that included those vicious knights. “Hey tin cans, over here.” The knights were running after Merlin with swords and maces. Then he drew Furies attention. “Hey you cold blooded sack of reptile, come over here. Fury was very angry. Then the knights and Fury

met. “Knights meet Fury, Fury meet the Knights.” The knights were shooting arrows and stabbing swords at the dragon while Fury was shooting fire balls at the knights. Then Merlin picked up Mary and ran to her house. “Stay with me my love.” They finally reached her house and laid her on her bed. Merlin got a rag and put it on her head. Merlin put his ear to her chest. He did not hear a heartbeat. Mary had died. Merlin filled with anger and sorrow, he knew what he had to do. He ran down the hill and in the woods and saw the dragon waiting for him. He had a few scratches on him but that didn't stop the beast. “You killed the only love in my life and now…… you are going to pay!” Merlin picked up one of the dead knights sword and held it in his hands. Fury was shooting fire balls at Merlin. “You think a few fireballs are going to stop me, NO.” Merlin jumped up and stabbed Fury in the throat. “SKREECH.” Merlin picked up another sword and chucked it at Fury. Then he picked up a bow and arrow. “Your death shall never be remembered!” Merlin shot the arrow into Furies mouth and Fury fell down on the ground dead. Merlin came to Mary and saw her peaceful spirit rise to the heavens. Merlin took his two fingers and shut Marie’s eyes and left the house to disappear in the shadows.

nce upon a time there lived a noble named William. He lived off of the king, so if he did something nice to the king he would get money. He had fancy blue and red clothes and his shoes were pure gold and iron. He had a supreme bow that was handmade by the king and his shiny arrows too. He was walking on private property and saw a white tailed deer as white as Alaska. There was a woman right next to the deer. The woman was as beautiful with a dress as blue as the ocean. She had beautiful hair as gold as corn. He walked to her and he said, “Who are you and why are you on my land?” She said nothing and the man kept on talking, but the woman kept on standing still. Then she said, “My name is Claremonde and I bought this land two months ago, and you are on my land, so GET OFF!” William was shocked so bad he started to cry. He left and went back to his house to get some rest.

The next morning the man went back to the land to see if she was there, and the woman was not there, but the deer was. He ran back to his house grabbed his bow and went back. The grass was vacant when he came back. He waited all day and at night the woman was there, he waited until she left, but she didn’t. He slept there and in the morning he shot the deer, and ran away. Claremonde heard the deer yell and she ran outside. She saw the deer on the ground and she cried so much she almost died. She blamed William and sued him for $265,000. He refused to pay, so they both went to court, but no one won. Claremonde said to William, “Ok I will cut the penalty in half, but you have to go to jail for seven months. That means you have to pay me 132,500. Is it a deal?” He said, “No.” Claremonde said, “Ok what about $66,000 and seven months in jail?” William said, “Ok” William went to jail and had to give away everything, even his bow and arrows. While he was in jail, Claremonde went to his house and she started to burn it down to the ground. She made a visit every four weeks to check on him in jail. She usually said that his house was in perfect shape, but it was not.

A boy came to the jail and said to William, “I am going to get you out by paying the bail.” He paid the police and they both went back to the house. The house was burned to the ground and Claremonde was standing in the burnt house. He stared at her for 45 minutes, then the woman ran, but the man took his bow and shot the girl in the leg, and she fell. He went over took out the arrow and gave her a bandage and said “Do not lie to me and burn down my house so I get to live with you.” The boy said bye, and William and Claremonde went to her house and they had a big party. Then they both said goodbye and the man went to live in the forest forever. Claremonde went to see him once a week and give him food. Then William said “I love you.” Claremonde did not reply until, she said “I love you too.” The next month William married Claremonde and they had 7 children, and they all became kings and queens. They all married wonderful women and men, they all had children. In total they had 35 children plus the seven that William and Claremonde had. Both William and Claremonde died because of the Black Death. Three years later a ⅓ of the population died of the Black Death.

Circa 1348 The Knight and the Sea Whip By Reese Horne

nce, there was a handsome knight. He was modest and was always willing to go into war, but he was headstrong. Of course, when the Pope called for a crusade, he was the first to hop onto the newest ship in the fleet. His name was Patrick. The ship he sailed on was called the Axiom, a new frigate. It was mastered by Maratada Vertalis, the “most skilled master of the sea”, as it was said. Nonetheless, he had flaws that he didn’t show to his faithful crew that often. The Axiom glided gracefully out of the port she berthed in, and rounded the first bend out of the Kingdom of Sicily. She was at the head of the fleet, a real majesty to the men of those times. The two square sails billowed out in the wind, making her the fastest ship of the fleet, the rest of them having one sail. She was painted in gay colors, but was also a ship of war. Her hidden two-foot-long crossbows could break through the timbers of a ship, and always had more than enough of a compliment of warriors, weapons, and armor. The ship was headed for the Palestine Empire, or also called the Holy land. Here is where Patrick comes in. He is sailing on the ship Axiom, bound for the Empire of Palestine and LOOT! No, he must keep from his greedy self and keep to his chivalrous code. But, think of all that loot… “Island AHOY! Wait, that’s not an island! HEY…” BOOM! The ship ground to a speedy halt against a green, long object, which was immediately the object of the crew’s attention, and many armed the crossbows. “Hello? May I help you?” But, his question fell on deaf ears, and Patrick shouted “SHOOT! The first one to hit it gets twenty pounds! Whoever kills it gets two hundred!” without consideration of his actions against the nice sea whip. Six arrows thudded into the sea whip’s side, fweeeeeee, THOK! The water tinged red with its blood while it thrashed. Meanwhile, Maratada, the ship’s master, was sleeping in his cabin, (he was a heavy sleeper) oblivious to what was going on.

[Type here]

[Type here]

[Type here]

Soon after, though, he came awake, and ordered a full course away from there, and every scrap of sail to be piled on. He hurried to the shore, where he met Lord Vaubadon Leofwynne Wilfrid Levilda Osgar Alastair Dacreaux, or as he was known, Lord Alastair Dacreaux, to discuss tactics of the Crusades, or Crux mission as people colloquially said, or just Crux, and deal with the holy land driven by the Muslim scum they are. Patrick also listened in, and gave his idea, but not before Matatada told of the “attack” on the great ship Axiom. Of course, he had been sleeping at the time, and was told a blown-up story by an eccentric sailor, who told him that it used a spiked, thrashing tail to hole the ship, when the ship just rammed the beast, and the tale continued to escalate until everybody was a hero, but Maratada had looked nonplussed throughout the whole story, but then told Patrick’s version to Lord Alastair. He surprisingly believed every word of the narration. “Well…” he started, “this is an interesting development! We should use this to our advantage by displaying the head of the sea monster on the prow of the lead ship, the Axiom, of course! The filthy Muslim scum would tremble in their boots!” he finished his train of thought. “Well, that’s the problem sir, we… don’t have the sea monster’s head, only the blood it left on the side of the ship, and that is hardly war paint against the hull.” Alastair winced in invisible pain as Maratada made his report. He couldn’t see a possible way to intimidate the Muslims, so he sent them off with the new battle plans. Little did they know they wouldn’t make it back. The Axiom sailed with her newly built sister ship the Avalon to the isles of Everard, or Hardy Boar, as it was known to the sailors, but they unwittingly sailed into the cove that the sea monster’s son lived in! But, none knew of this potentially deadly mistake. Two glittering, teal eyes watched from the depths of the underwater cave where it hid, chuckling in grisly glee for the revenge of its father. Now this was the classic sea monster that Patrick wrongly judged its father for. It was on the prowl. Meanwhile, on the ship Axiom, they had sighted a pirate ship, and had crossbows at the ready if they were planning to attack. “Ahoy the ship!” was the reply, “We stole this from pirates, the Seascab! Here’s how we…” Whoosh! Crack! The timbers of the Axiom collided with those of the Avalon and sank both ships quickly. The ships were put through rigorous training, but the planners never planned for a sea monster attack.

Since the Seascab was still, and was in the ferns, the sea monster didn’t see it. It picked up the survivors, and slowly crept out of the cove and away from Everard. The Seascab was chased over all the seas that were known, until the ship was caught unawares three months later. The sea whip used the trailing seaweed in another cove to disguise himself, and when the Seascab sailed in, Crack! Boom! As the battle raged, nobody was spared by the vengeful beast. Goodbye to the great freebooter vessel Seascab. So goes the motto, “Look before you leap!” Below: The Axiom entering Everard

The Sailor’s Tale by

Ben Hulsey

Plan Ahead and Good Things Will Come nce upon a time, in a grand kingdom called Bucksworth, a generous farmer named Charles owned a patch of land. The terrain was smooth and great for horse riding. The grass never seared. It also had a creek and a hill. Charles possessed all of his land, 3 geese, 1 horse, 2 cows, 8 chickens, 4 sheep, a beagle named Buck and a falcon named Arrow, a 2 room house, a shed, and a fence. He hated to hunt and only ate the trout he caught in the creek and an occasional quail caught by Arrow, plus the eggs and milk from his animals. The land was so rich that everyone wanted it. Charles was lucky to buy the farm. The animals came with the farm. On the farm was a rushing creek brimming with trout. On a sunny and warm day Charles grabbed his fishing pole and set off to the creek with Buck in a quick gait behind him. When they arrived Charles threw the line in the water and waited. Suddenly he heard a horse galloping towards his hut. His hand went to his dagger and brandished it. He heard his animals mooing, quacking, screeching, and yelping. Charles heard Buck growl. Charles saw the man knocking on his door. When Charles approached, dagger in hand, he noticed that the steward, George, was at his door. The steward was dressed in a tight uniform and a sword. He was followed by two fierce looking dogs. He started to speak but his accent made it hard to understand. George said, “Are you Charles, the owner of this fine property?” “I am. Do you need anything? “Actually, I would like to buy this land from you for 100 shillings. I know that you do not hunt but the land is perfect for the sport. And I will take it from you by force,”he said, his voice getting tense. Charles grew mad and said to leave. “Let’s make a deal.”George snapped.”There will be a magnificent hunt tomorrow. If we catch a buck, then your property will belong to the castle. If you really hate to hunt, then a buck will flee to your place. It is a deal.” Then he rode off.

harles woke up early, as usual. Charles rarely felt fatigue. He ushered Arrow and Buck out the door. They knew what to do. Buck and Arrow streaked to the woods. Outside of the woods is the castle’s property. The animal friends snuck over the border, and flinched when they heard the howling of dogs and the shout of men. The hunt had begun.

Meanwhile, Charles was setting a trap. He knew that George could be sinister. Charles did not want the trap to be prominent or George would notice it. Charles dug a hole and put spikes and rope in it. He covered it with twigs and branches. His plan was to find a male fawn, tie it to a post, and lead George into the trap. The rope and spikes would stall his escape. He would be punished if he was found hunting on Charles’ land. Buck started to flee, hearing the startling sounds. Arrow stopped him and calmed him down with clucks. Suddenly the friends noticed a fawn laying in the grass. Buck growled when he saw no mother deer. She must have been killed. Then Arrow swooped up and saw the hunters. They were standing at a deer carcass. He saw George getting angry. “See, that the deer’s fawn was male. Get them!”Arrow urgently reported the news to Buck and the fawn. The fawn seemed in woe. Then a chaotic barking noise arose. 3 hounds were bearing down on them! Behind were about 70 men, 20 falcons, 80 dogs, and many weapons. The 3 friends fled, but the dogs were getting close. Buck looked back, seeing George on a grand white horse, armed with a crossbow and dagger. When George realized that they were fleeing to Charles’ land, he grew furious. Dodging arrows and trees, the friends made it over the border. George stopped his men and silently galloped over the border himself. The animals ran to the farm.

oon Charles effortlessly caught the fawn and tied him to the post. Charles knew that his mother had been massacred because he could hear her cries of grief from the shed. Charles wanted to keep the fawn to be his friend and companion instead of supper. The fawn was bucking and kicking, and Charles tied him up just in time. He heard George’s horse and hid in the shed. He heard George laugh in triumph when he saw the fawn and then a high pitched scream. When Charles peaked out, he saw George blundering out of the trap. Castle guards had gone on the hunt and rode up the path. The castle guards took George away and the farm was finally safe. George was sent to another castle to be a servant and the fawn lived at the farm like a normal barnyard animal.

The Prince and Peasant’s Canterbury Tale By Ally Keating nce upon a time there was a kingdom and as usual, there was a prince who was looking for his perfect match. This prince is named Prince Brantley who was not arrogant like his father and had a much different opinion on a wife than his father did. He wanted someone who is honest, not afraid to be herself, beautiful, efficient and intelligent. His father was not interested in these valuable qualities, he wanted her to be intelligent, beautiful, and rich as all get out. This king was named Brandon and I think you might have already figured out his character tributes. Then there is the ever so graceful noble who serves the king in every possible way. This noble is kind, honest, intelligent and handsome. His daughter, was incredible! Her mother taught her to knit after one lesson. She tried to teach her her alphabet, math, science and another language and her daughter learned with great haste. Her name was Joy and she was exactly what Brantley was looking for, but she was a peasant and when she tried to talk to father about this he would say, “You’re a peasant you fool, Brantley can’t marry a peasant!” That is when she would walk away and sob. She never gave up hope, though. The next day she used her incredible wits to think up a plan. Joy thought, “If I saved my money and traded it for makeup and a very fancy dress I bet my father would let me go to the Prince.” She loved this idea and decided to use it. She found odd jobs all around the kingdom and finally in one month she started buying makeup. Then she started to save up for the dress that could cost, at the least, forty shillings! That is a lot of money. After about two years she had enough money. She went out and bought the most beautiful dress that was blue, white, and just all around gorgeous. She got all dressed up and ordered a chariot to come and pick her up. She rode all the way to colossal castle and when she walked down the staircase she looked at the Prince and he said, “No.” She was so shocked that she took off and Arthur, her father, exclaimed, “That was Joy my daughter! How did she get that beautiful? She usually is in rags and all dirty!”

[Type here]

[Type here]

[Type here]

Prince Brantley overheard this and thought, “I want to see her in her rags instead of a very busy dress. I also want to see her real hair instead of that ridiculous wig. I wonder what she would look like.” The next day Brantley decided to go and visit her to see what she would look like without all of that fake dress up stuff. He knocked on the door, but no one answered, so he went around to the back to see if someone was working on the farmland that Arthur’s family owned. As he looked around he saw Joy working on the fields and he thought that she had never looked better. He called out to her, “Why did you change yourself to come before me.” She turned around and bowed down to him, “My father said I was too ugly to be before you so I saved up some money and bought a dress, makeup, and chariot so I could come before you.” “I like you better this way, though. You don’t ever need to change for me my darling. I like realistic, beautiful things.” Then they lived happily ever after. They also inspired people to be themselves and not to change for someone to like you. Be who you are because that is the best you no matter if anyone says otherwise.

The village people looked around in fear not knowing what could happen to them. They silently prayed to their God for protection. Hoping for a sign that they would be okay and not die.

Suddenly, a white bird flew down from the skies. The fire had stopped and the ropes dropped in a blur. The other villagers ran off in horror at these events trying not to trip. At midnight, the villagers slept in a dreamless sleep. The forest was filling with a blue light shimmering through the darkness. The doctor, chef and the Poet were suddenly free.

The Summoner’s Tale By: Ian Simmonds

nce upon a time there was a great dragon named Falkor. He was the nephew of the great dragon defeated by King Arthur. Now he was a nice dragon, not at all like his fiery uncle. He had four legs, two large wings, blue skin, and could breathe fire. He was so nice that he attracted a fair maiden named Garnet. They had a half-breed baby named Abraxas. He had two legs, two medium sized wings on his back, red skin, and could breathe fire like his dad. When Abraxas was about ten years old, he was allowed to fly out into the open alone. He stretched his wings and soared around the nearby town. He landed in the woods. Then he heard rustling in the bushes. Abraxas was preparing to breathe fire on the bush when a boy ran out of them. he was dressed in a dark green cloak, he had a dagger, and was about ten years old like Abraxas. Abraxas was curious to find out who this strange renegade was. The boy was also curious who Abraxas was. Then Abraxas said, “Hello my name is Abraxas. What is your name?” The boy slowly said, “My name is Ashton. I have left my village because I have been falsely accused of stealing from Lord Percy. I have been declared a wolf’s head.” Abraxas gasped. He had heard of a wolf’s head. He swore to protect Ashton until they found the real culprit. Then Abraxas took Ashton to his home. His parents were happy to see another human. Then they all slept for the night. The next day, Abraxas and Ashton flew to the town. They hid behind houses and trees until they reached the castle of lord Percy. They overheard him talking about the money depletion in the town. When Abraxas and Ashton were about to leave, he heard lord Percy blaming it on Falkor, Garnet, and Abraxas. Abraxas was baffled. He realized that they needed to find the real culprit and fast. Then Abraxas and Ashton went to the outskirts of town where all of the criminals lived. They heard nothing conspicuous except for when they got to the last house. They heard someone scream, “I’m rich, I’m rich!” They also heard

gold and riches shuffling down a pile. Then the boys stormed in. There was a man in straw coloured clothes with a scythe in his hands. When he saw them, he immediately thrust his scythe out, curved it around Ashton, and pulled it back. Ashton was pulled towards him. “So you have been stealing from lord Percy!” Abraxas yelled. “Yes I have. My name is Baldwin, and if you tell anyone what I have done, your friend shall die.” Baldwin said. Then Ashton mouthed to Abraxas “It’s okay.” He caught a glimpse at Ashton’s eyes and he immediately knew what he was thinking. Abraxas said. “I don’t think so.” Baldwin said, “And why not?” Baldwin got his answer before Abraxas could say anything. Ashton stabbed him in the foot. Baldwin cringed and yelled. Ashton was released. After Baldwin got over his pain, he thrust his scythe yet again at Ashton but this time they were prepared. As Ashton parried his scythe, Abraxas breathed fire directly at it, melting it instantly. Then Ashton found some rope in the house while Abraxas kept Baldwin at bay. Ashton tied up Baldwin to one of the golden crosses imbedded in the ground. They were triumphant! Then Ashton, with a noble disguise draped over himself ran to get help while Abraxas watched Baldwin. When Ashton got back, with lord Percy at his side, Abraxas immediately jumped into the pile of riches. Even though he was a hero, he was a dragon none the less. Then lord Percy interrogated Baldwin and he did not deny anything. Then he told Ashton to go home while guards came to transport the gold and take Baldwin to jail. Lord Percy also said that the wolf’s head had withdrew and dragons were allowed in the town as long as they were nice. Then Abraxas jumped out of the pile of gold and walked away with Ashton alongside him. When they told Falkor and Garnet about their expedition, they were amazed! Falkor was ecstatic that they had saved all dragons. Then Falkor took Ashton into his custody. He was now Abraxas’ brother. And so Abraxas, Garnet, Falkor, and Ashton lived happily ever after. The End!

The Knights Tale By Rylee Spence-Baker

nce upon a time King Arthur and lovely his wife Guinevere were in their beautiful colossal castle on a hot and sunny day. King Arthur has short orange hair and he wore chain mail with a red shirt underneath when he fought in battles. He was also a tall King. King Arthur’s wife has beautiful curled hair that fits her perfectly. She is very pretty. King Arthur picked a pretty women. She is the nicest person that you will ever meet. The setting is in the middle ages in a castle or in a field. The horses that King Arthur or his wife use are very tall. Arthur's wife had a horse that was grey and black. Her name was Cloud and she was 17 hands tall. Guinevere named her horse cloud because when she would take cloud on a ride she was so graceful. Arthur's horse was black and white. His name was storm and he was 18 hands tall. He named his horse storm because when he used him to fight he would burst through a big field full of fighters and he wouldn’t get scared. The horses that King Arthur rode in the battle had to wear armor so they would not get stabbed. If one of the horses got stabbed then the King would have to quit or buy another horse. One day while King Arthur and the Queen had free time they wanted to ride their horse in the field to get some fresh air. 10 minutes after they were in the field one of his knights came up and told him that somebody was in trouble and he needed Arthur's help. So Arthur was on his way. While his wife was left alone a knight called Mark the evil went over to his wife and started flirting with her. She was very creeped out. She wanted to get away badly. When the knight was flirting with King Arthurs wife she ran away from him. She had a bad feeling about that mean knight. When the Queen ran away the knight chased right after her. after a while when she was running the Queen thought that she had lost the knight, but the knight was just hiding behind a bush. When the Queen was in her castle and she felt safe that she lost him, while she was just settling in from not being kidnapped, she sat down on the couch. She was just about to clean the castle then the knight came in and grabbed her around the waist and tried to kidnap her. While he took her down the hall the maid was cleaning the son's room and she saw him taking her. The maid didn't want to yell or scream because then the knight will get her too. The maid was going to tell king Arthur the second he got in the door.

When the king comes home the maid told him right away. When she told him he got very worried. He wanted to go beat up that dumb knight so he could learn a lesson. The King found the knight and told him to give his wife back. Well the knight did not acknowledge him at all. So the king went into the knights small castle and found his wife and took her back. The knight wanted her really bad. .The king told the Knight to never mess with her again. The knight got really scared. King Arthur got the knight on his horse and when he got to the castle he locked him up in his dungeon for 3 years. The knight felt bad that he stole his wife. King Arthur wanted him to starve to death and die. The knight didn't want to die so he tried to anything he could. The King was not falling for it. So he just left him down there to die. The Knight wanted to live a long and beautiful life. After a couple of years of the knight being left in the dungeon he got out. When he got out he was very respectful. He did whatever anybody told him to do, but if anybody told him something stupid then he would not do it. The knight would always follow the rules. He was never unruly again. When he went back to fighting in the battles he never flirted with any other women. He was quiet and kept a lot of things to himself. After he was locked in the dungeon he was really skinny because he couldn't eat any food. The knight only ate 17 pieces of bread with some cream sauce on top of it. The king was nicer than any other King there was because he actually gave the captive (Prisoner) some food and water and he even gave him 3 Glasses of milk. the other Kings would put the bad guys in the dungeon and leave them to die, they would not care one little bit at all. They wouldn't give them any food, or they would not give them anything to drink either. The knight now knows to never be mean again to anybody in the world. He learns his lesson by getting locked up in the dungeon. The knight never steals another woman ever again. He honestly never steals anything ever again. It is against his being to do anything bad again. The moral of my story is to treat people the way you want to be treated.

The Knight By James Tanner nce upon a time, there was a loyal knight named John. He wore old chain mail. He was treated like a peasant. Everyone made fun of him because the king would never send him into a battle. This knight had a loyal dog. The dog had black all around him and brown around his mouth. The people in the village made fun of him and called the dog a mutt. John had a rival. His name was William. William was treated a lot better than John. The villagers called him the leader of the knights. William had a dog also. His dog was a full breed and was treated like royalty and never called a mutt. William was a skilled and well-trained knight.

The wealthy and powerful kingdom was being attacked by barbarians from the north. They were the Franks. They had all the newest kinds of weapons including slingshots, battle axes. They brought slaves to dig holes to try to dig under the castle. When the king gathered all the knights, he told them to make as much noise as they could. This would wake the dragon who would scare the Franks off. John tried to tell William that the dragon could destroy half of the kingdom, but William didn’t listen. He sent all the knights to go wake up the dragon. All the knights, except John, went to the mountain cave to wake up the dragon. They noticed that the dragon was awake. He was green and scaly like a dinosaur. His cave was huge and he was the size of fifty knights.

He saw the knights and growled. He chased the knights. The ground shook every time he took a step. The knights ran all the way back to the castle, looking back over their shoulders. The franks are known for beating anything in their way. Not for long. They did not know what was coming for them. When the dragon awoke the franks ran.

William did not make it inside the gate. John, who was safe inside, came outside. “Capture the dragon” said john. “I can’t “said William. William’s dog ran away with William chasing after him with no one to slay the dragon except John. John slayed the dragon and saved the day. From that day on John was treated better.

She wasn't the prettiest of them all, but by far the sweetest, she loved animals, people, nature, and most importantly her family. One day she was walking to the castle to ask King Robert II a favor for her mom, the mom couldn't go because she was sick. Back to the story there she was walking to the castle when a girl noble named Adela, who is the prettiest out of all the girls but not nice at all. She was so mean nobody liked her. Everybody she saw, she would sneer at them they sneered back. She made sure everybody knew who she was. She held grudges against everyone. So, there was Rosemonda who was walking along, looking at flowers, when she didn't even know that she was getting ready to bump into the meanest girl around. Then there was Adela putting her head high in the sky when she didn't even know that she was about to get REALLY mad. CLASH! They both had stars swirling above their heads. "Wha, what just happened? Did I bump into a tree?" Said Adela. “Wow, sorry I didn’t see you there. I really need to watch where I am going,” Said Rosemonda “No kidding, you are so clumsy. I can’t believe that you bumped into the PRETTIEST girl around” Rosemonda told Adela that she was sorry. Then she thought of how rude that was of her to be rude like that. She came up with a GREAT plan that would make Adela nicer, because when Rosemonda bumped into her she wasn't very nice. Her plan was that the next day she was going to purposely bump into here and get REALLY upset and then she would tell her that she was the worst, and she was ugly. It was the next day she had her plan mapped out. She got dressed and then started down the road looking for Adela, and there she saw her

admiring herself in the mirror. "I got her now!" Rosemonda told herself. She walked up to her, turned around and backed into her. Then she said A LOT of mean words to Adela. Adela stood tall and said, "I may be mean but by doing that you made yourself just made you rise to my level." That night, she ran what Adela said over and over again in her head. Then she remembered something her mom said once, "If you get angry one day because of someone, don't raise yourself to their position, stay exactly where you are."
