Interesting Fact If the time of Earth’s existence was considered into a 24hour clock, the moon formation event occurred just 10 minutes after the Earth was born.

Theories of How the Moon was Formed One of the theories is that the moon came out of the crust of the Earth. Another one is that the moon was capture by the earth. Finally there is the one that said that the Earth and moon form together out of the primordial nebula . Though there is probably more to come, which is true.

The Moon’s Composition The moon’s composition consists of a crust, a mantle, and a core, much like earth, but in smaller amounts. These layers consist mostly of iron, magnesium, and other metals.

Moon’s Size and Distance The Moon is exceptionally large relative to the earth: a quarter the diameter of the planet and 1/81 its mass. The distance from the earth to the moon is 384400 kilometer(238855 miles). Earth Mean diameter 12,742 km Volume 1.08321 x 1012 km3 Mass 5.9736 x 1024 kg

Moon 3,476 km 2.199 x 1010 km3 7.349 x 1022 kg

The Moon completes its orbit around the Earth in approximately 27.3 days (a sidereal month).

If We Had No Moon‌. Today, if we didn’t have the moon we would have magma ocean on the earth. Also, its position around the earth allows it to reflect the sun's light into our night. The moon's orbit around the earth lasts about a month giving us different levels of this light. The 'new moon' has little light to offer and the 'full moon' provides us with the best lighting. The second effect comes from the moon's gravitational pull on the earth. As the earth rotates, the moon's pull causes the world's bodies of water to experience 'high tides.' At a given time there are two high tides on earth. The gravitational forces between the Earth and the Moon cause some interesting effects on our oceans. The tides. The moon controls our high and low tides.
