We see every interaction with young people as an opportunity for learning and development - all grounded in the Y’s core values of faith, caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. 6


YOUTH SPORTS The Y nurtures the potential of children through the YMCA’s Youth Sports programming by strengthening character in our youth, engaging families, and building lasting relationships. Participants in these programs build skills, learn about teamwork, and focus on sportsmanship. Families are presented with second-to-none volunteer opportunities as coaches, team parents, and committee members.

AQUATICS SWIM LESSONS Swim Starters Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision. B / WATER EXPLORATION

Parents accompany children in stage A, which introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment through exploration and encourages them to enjoy themselves while learning about the water.

In stage B, parents work with their children to explore body positions, floating, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety and aquatic skills.

Swim Basics Students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills: • Swim, float, swim - Sequencing front glide, roll, back float, roll, front glide, and exit • Jump, push, turn, grab

MAKE A SPLASH Y swim instructors are nationally certified through the YMCA of the USA. Their training includes CPR, AED, First Aid and Oxygen Administration. Swim lessons provide important life skills that could save a life and will benefit students for a lifetime.

Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water in stage 1. This stage lays the foundation that allows for a student’s future progress in swimming.

In stage 2, students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water while also continuing to practice how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

3 / WATER STAMINA In stage 3, students learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance than in previous stages in the event of falling into a body of water. This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action.

PRE-COMPETITIVE SWIM TEAM, JUNIOR WAHOOS This pre-competitive swim team is for ages 5-18. It will include advanced instruction in the 4 competitive strokes, starts and turns, and an introduction to racing techniques and tactics. This is a great way to learn about swim team. Also includes competitive dives off the starting block, flip turns, and stroke development.

COMPETITIVE SWIM TEAM, GMV WAHOOS Competitive swimming can be excellent preparation for life in many respects. It teaches children to work hard, work intelligently and to persevere. It is an exciting sport for children of all ages. We emphasize development in: • Technique: Learning great technique, efficiency and grace in the water • Physical: Developing speed and endurance through training all four strokes in an Individual Medley and Endurance-based program • Cognitive: Learning about swimming, the ‘whys’ of training, diet, nutrition and taking care of the body • Psychological: Learning and practicing the attitudes of a champion, goal setting and thriving in high pressure situations • Sociological: Team building, building friendships with swimmers on other teams and throughout the swimming community. GYMNASTICS INSTRUCTIONAL GYMNASTICS The YMCA instructional Gymnastics program has classes designed for students from 18 months to 12 years old. These classes are designed to introduce basic tumbling elements and skills.

Preschool Classes

School Age Classes

Parents accompany children in introducing them to basic tumbling elements and skills. The development of rolling, supported handstands and beginner cartwheels.

Beginner level class designed for children who have never experienced gymnastics. An introduction to basic tumbling skills, along with introduction on the bars and balance beam.

COMPETITIVE GYMNASTICS | AGES 8 & UP The GMV YMCA competitive team is founded on the belief that values gained and lessons learned go far beyond mastering skills and winning competitions. We foster team spirit, good sportsmanship and the YMCA philosophy of combining spirit, mind and body for a well-rounded individual. We focus on good ethical standards and academic achievement as well as learning the responsibility of dedication and commitment. CHILD CARE EARLY LEARNING & EDUCATION Full Day Early Learning & Preschool Our programs are designed to meet the developmental needs of young children ages six weeks to five years. Children in our licensed childcare programs are cared for in a warm, nurturing and safe environment. Staff are well trained in early childhood education and follow age-appropriate lesson plans that are designed to stimilate children’s minds as well as provide a fun and creative day. SCHOOL AGE PROGRAMS Before/After School Care The YMCA offers high quality before and after school care at over 26 locations in partnership with eight school districts and private schools. Our programs provide a fun, safe enriching environment where kids get academic support, interact with caring adults, socialize with peers and form long-lasting friendships that enhance character development, growth and self-confidence. No School, No Problem! School Day’s Out is a full day program that is offered when local schools are not in session (Even on Snow Days!). Enroll your child for a fun filled day of games, crafts, activities and time with friends. For questions, contact your local branch.

Adventure Summer Camps : Ages 6-12 Join YMCA Day Camp for one week or for an entire summer of fun! We focus on faith, honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility in all of our activities, from educational camper chosen skill sessions including swimming, arts and crafts, games and more. We provide fun-filled activities that allow for physical involvement, social interaction, educational opportunities, leadership building, personal growth and creativity.

CHILD WATCH Child Watch is a FREE service to children who are full members. We provide a safe, fun environment for your child/children for up to 2 1/2 hours per day. At least one parent, custodian, or guardian of each child must remain on the premises and readily accessible at all times while the child is in Child Watch. Parents and children need membership cards or other picture ID to drop off or pick up children. All Branches - Hours vary by branch

Fun 2B Fit is designed to teach children fun and healthy life skills by incorporating cardio training, strength training and active play into a comprehensive exercise program. ADULT SPORTS Whether you miss “suiting up” or are new to team sports, the Y’s sports leagues provide a perfect opportunity to get active, get social and get connected with a sport you love.

Basketball The Y’s adult basketball program provides a competitive environment for those not ready to hang up their athletic shoes! Registration is taken by team but interested individuals not on a team can speak with the sports director who can often find a team to join. All Branches All Sessions

YMCA’S DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is a group-based lifestyle intervention program to help adults reduce their risk for developing type 2 diabetes. This small-group program helps people with prediabetes eat healthier, increase their physical activity and lose weight, which can delay or even prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes. In partnership with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, FUN2BFIT incorporates cardio training, strength training and active play into a comprehensive exercise program. Through LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a FREE 12 week research based program, the YMCA supports cancer survivors and their families in regaining their physical, emotional and spiritual strength.

Summer camp is about learning skills, developing character, making friends, and having fun! Thanks to generous donations, YMCA Camp Campbell Gard provide scholarships every year for children to attend camp. With our doors open to all, regardless of ability to pay, the YMCA offers financial assistance for membership and programming.


BOOKER T. WASHINGTON COMMUNITY CENTER The BTW Community Center collaboration includes the City of Hamilton, the Boys & Girls Club, the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, Miami University, SELF, the YMCA, and YWCA, to partner on program offerings to serve the Hamilton community more effectively. This collaboration provides youth and families with programs that represent the programmatic expertise of each agency. Chaplaincy Program The mission of the Chaplaincy Program is to demonstrate the love of Christ by encouraging and caring for people within the YMCA. Chaplain volunteers develop relationships with staff and members to offer encouragement and support and to pray for those that request it. Prayer Request Boxes All branches of the Great Miami Valley YMCA have prayer boxes in lobbies for your prayer requests. Prayer cards are available near the boxes. Workplace Wellness Program The Great Miami Valley YMCA can work with your company to become a strategic partner in health and wellness. Financial Assistance The Great Miami Valley YMCA is a not-for-profit organization committed to helping people reach their full potential in spirit, mind and body. We are here to serve people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and incomes. The funds available for Financial Assistance are made possible through the generosity of our members and donors in our annual Annual Support Campaign. We believe a strong sense of ownership and pride is developed if the recipient has contributed to the cost of their YMCA involvement; therefore, applicants will be asked to pay some portion of the fees. Cancellation Thirty-day written notice is required for all cancellations. If rejoining occurs after 60 days, an activation fee will apply. Child Watch Child Watch is a free service to members for children 6 weeks to 10 years. We provide a safe, fun environment for up to 2.5 hours per day. At least one parent, custodian, or guardian of each child must remain on the premises and accessible at all times.

Class Registration Full members and program participants may register for classes online during specific dates indicated online. Phone registrations begin on Wednesday of registration week for full members and Thursday for program participants. Members and program participants are required to register for most programs, even those with no fees. If fees apply, they must be paid at the time of registration. Fees will not be prorated due to late registrations. Missed Classes There are no make-up classes or refunds/credits due to missing class. Closings All locations are closed Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, open limited hours on New Year’s Day, Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. All locations except East Butler are closed Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day. The Y closes during Level 3 Emergencies. Credits/Refunds Refunds will not be given once a class begins, as spaces are limited and the reserved spot could have been taken by another participant. If the Y cancels a program or class, the participant will receive an online credit or refund for the amount of the program. Email The Y collects email addresses to communicate electronically with members and participants. If you do not wish to receive YMCA e-communications, choose the “unsubscribe” option when you receive your first email. Expulsion Policy Circumstances that may lead to permanent expulsion include, but are not limited to, physical harm to another person; sexually offensive actions or threat of such actions; confirmed listing as a registered sex offender; and/or any violent or improper behavior against another person. Permanent expulsion is reserved for situations where suspension will not adequately protect YMCA members, volunteers, program participants and staff. Guest Pass Policy Guests must be accompanied by a member over the age of 18 and bring a valid photo ID. Guests may participate in Group Exercise classes if space in the class permits, workout in the Wellness Center, swim or


use the gymnasium. The YMCA reserves the right to limit or restrict guests. • Members may bring a maximum of three individual guests or one family each day. • A waiver must be signed by the guest. If the guest is under the age of 18, the accompanying member must sign the waiver. • A guest may purchase a maximum of six guest passes per year. Because members of all ages share the locker rooms, please exercise discretion and modesty in regards to nudity. • Children must use locker room of same sex. • The Y is not responsible for lost or stolen items. • Lockers are available for daily use during your visit. Please use your own lock to secure your belongings while you are using the Y facilities • Locks left on overnight may be removed to allow use by other members. After 30 days, the contents of lockers will be donated to charity. Locker rentals are available at some locations for an additional fee. Nationwide Membership Nationwide Membership enables you to visit any participating YMCA in the United States. Personal Coaching/Personal Training Personal training is available at all branches for an additional fee. For liability reasons, we do not allow members, outside trainers or coaches to privately instruct other members or guests on YMCA property. Refer-A-Friend We are calling on our existing members to help us strengthen and help our community become healthier by inviting their friends and family to join the Y. As a way to show our appreciation for helping us to reach our goals, the Y will give back 20% of the cost of both of your memberships.

Special Needs Persons with special needs are encouraged to participate in Y programs. If you require special assistance, please notify the Welcome Center. Red Bands: • Children under age 10 are always within arm’s length of an active adult (18 or older) who is in the water with the child. • One adult can have a maximum of three nonswimmers in their care.
