The safety, accuracy and reliability of tanker wagons are crucial for transporting bulk fuel from terminals to gas stations and other customers countrywide To guarantee accurate measurements in trade, it is imperative that all tanker wagons be verified by the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) in accordance with the 1981 Weights and Measures Act

All work and no play could make the GNBS a dull place!. Over the years, the game of domino has become the trending recreational activity after work hours, and it has led to our teams participating in many competitions.
On July 28, the GNBS team participated in the Public Service domino tournament at the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) Hall and emerged winners! In a thrilling final, GNBS won 46 games, surpassing both GWI (43 games) and GGMC (34 games)
The GNBS team earned a monetary incentive and the Sports Ambassador trophy while the teams that placed second and third also received monetary rewards.

In August, the GNBS hosted three Public Consultation Sessions as its Standardisation Team works to revise several standards The first session was held on August 06 for the Milk Standard and the second on August 15 for the IceCream and other related products standard On August 21, the third session was held for the Bread and Rolls Standard
These sessions were hosted to discuss the revision of the standards with stakeholders to garner their comments and inputs in keeping with the standard development process.

During the July- August vacation, the GNBS utilised the various media platforms to educate businesses and consumers about the quality and labelling of footwear, garments, cell phones and other electronic appliances
These commodities form part of the 17 categories of products monitored by the GNBS to ensure quality on the local market
As the new school term begins, consumers are encouraged to only purchase these items from registered manufacturers and importers, and look for key labelling requirements when making purchases
Some of these labelling requirements to keep in mind includes the country of origin, manufacturers name/brand, care instructions, and any special features required for the product’s intended purpose.

The GNBS leveraged funding from the programme, specifically through its Technical Barriers to Trade component to improve standards and quality measures throughout Guyana, supporting various sectors and groups including micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, women entrepreneurs and vulnerable groups Further, through the GNBS, the plan has enabled key investments in Guyana to improve infrastructure and standards
