STUDY HALL/TUTORING PROGRAM With great thanks and appreciation to the Gwa’sala-’Nakwaxda’xw Trust and Community, this program is offered Mondays and Wednesday from 7-9 pm at the Adult Education Centre, and through lunch on Tuesdays at Port Hardy Secondary School. Tutoring is offered to students needing extra assistance with school work and assignments, assistance in completing bursary/scholarship applications, or just a quiet place for students to do homework, or study for exams. Laptops, IPads with keyboards and general supplies are provided at Study Hall in order to research projects or complete assignments. The Education and Social Assistance programs also provide snacks to the students that attend this program. The Education Department sponsors an annual Christmas Break Pizza Party and End of the Year Pizza Party. These photos were taken this past Christmas Break Pizza Party. Special thanks to Angela Clair for her role as our tutor. Angela’s love, care and dedication to our students is truly amazing and appreciated. Angela also provides extra Study Hall days when required: when Interim Report Cards are sent home, when students request extra support and before final exams during both semesters. Thanks so much Angela! Thank you once again to the Gwa’sala-’Nakwaxda’xw Trust and Community for your continued support!

Notice to the Community – Drug Dealers Dear Community Members, Chief and Council are asking for your assistance in controlling and reporting the illegal drug dealing, bootlegging and under-aged drinking activities on reserve. As you know, many of the drug dealers and bootleggers received a letter from the Elders, Elected and Youth Councils asking them to cease their activities on reserve. The members of the Councils know who they are and are watching. At the same time, we need your assistance to get information on drug dealers and bootleggers that we notified or others that have not yet received a letter from the Councils. We need to be strong and have pride in who we are! No longer are we going to accept drug dealers or bootleggers in our community causing harm to our children, adults and families. We, as a community, will support anyone who asks for help. It is very important that we all work together to rid the community of the illegal drugs and alcohol being sold to our youth and community members. They are not helping the community, in fact, they are causing a great deal of harm to individuals and families. The Councils is also concerned about under-aged drinking and parents who are allowing their children to drink. Under-aged drinking is illegal and exposes children to the negative impacts of drinking. It is unhealthy for them to be drinking, so help us stop this sort of activity. Asking the community to help us with this is a difficult thing to do. Information on family members, friends or others is not an easy thing to do, but think of the consequences of not doing anything. Information will be held confidentially, and we may need you to report what you have observed to the RCMP, Cst. Starr and Cst. Macdonald.

Thank you, Chief Paddy Walkus
