ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE IN ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES DEPARTMENTAL DESCRIPTION
The Department of Agriculture, Biology and Health Sciences offers degrees in Agriculture, Biology, Allied Health Sciences, Radiologic Technology, and Respiratory Care. Highly qualified faculty members who are committed to undergraduate education teach courses, advise students, and mentor undergraduates in research. The department sponsors the Biology Club, the Health Professions Club, the Pre-Nursing Club, and a chapter of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, Collegiate FFA, and Aggie Club.
MAJOR DESCRIPTION
The Associate in Science in Allied Health Sciences major requires 44 hours in General Education coursework, 23-24 hours in courses in the major, and 4-6 additional hours in other required courses. The major is designed to meet the needs of students who are preparing to apply to associate and baccalaureate degree programs in fields such as nursing, occupational and physical therapy, medical imaging, radiation sciences, and nutritional sciences. The degree was designed to be flexible in order to meet the diverse sets of prerequisite courses required for admission to these professional fields. Cameron’s faculty work closely with several nursing programs in the southwest Oklahoma region, including those offered by the OU College of Nursing in Lawton, OK, the OKHU Kramer School of Nursing in Duncan, OK, and the associate degree program at Western Oklahoma State College with nursing campuses in Altus and Lawton, OK.
SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE DEPARTMENT
Whether students are gathering with fellow students to study in the Interaction Area that is adjacent to faculty offices or students learning human anatomy through actual human cadaver dissection in the McMahon Gross Anatomy Laboratory, students will discover that the faculty and staff of the department are here to help students achieve
their career goals. Cameron’s modern laboratories and classrooms provide the physical environment to support students learning needs, and Cameron’s dedicated faculty members will challenge and support intellectual growth.
