CAMERON UNIVERSITY
SCHOLARS CONVOCATION WEEK
2023
October 30 - November 3 2023
Congratulations, Scholars! It is my great honor to welcome you to Cameron University’s Scholars Convocation Week. During this week, we will acknowledge the accomplishments of our faculty, staff and students all around campus. As we celebrate your achievements, we hope that you will feel a sense of pride in what you have accomplished in your academics and/or career up to this point. We are pleased to recognize our honor society members, scholarship recipients, and those involved in creative and scholarly activities with a week-long celebration. As you peruse the names in this book and the works displayed around campus, be sure to take the opportunity to congratulate your fellow students, faculty, and colleagues for their contributions to academic excellence. Convocation is a time for all of us to reflect on what we have achieved thus far. It is rightly celebrated at the mid-point of the semester to give us the extra motivation to continue to the end. As you finish this semester, remember the goals you have set for yourself or the dreams you are trying to accomplish. Work hard to finish this semester strong! Please take the time to stop by the different buildings at the Lawton and Duncan campuses to observe the honor society and scholarship recipient boards; scholarly posters, books or artifacts; and creative works such as artwork or literature that have been produced by our inspiring students, faculty, and staff. Visit the Convocation webpage for more information: www.cameron.edu/convocation. I hope you will enjoy this new way of celebrating the many academic accomplishments on our campus! Sincerely,
Ronna Vanderslice Vice President for Academic Affairs
Academic Gonfalons
Communication, English & Foreign Languages
Computing and Mathematical Sciences
Every academic discipline at Cameron University is represented by its own gonfalon – a vertical banner displayed from a crossbar – that is traditionally carried during academic ceremonies. Each gonfalon has imagery and colors specific to that discipline. Cameron’s gonfalons are displayed at major academic events, such as Commencement, and are often carried by honor students within that discipline when they lead faculty and other students in a procession. Gonfalons with upward chevrons represent undergraduate departments, while those pointing downward denote graduate studies.
