Overview of the Program

The Master of Education in Reading provides students with the preparation necessary to serve as reading specialists in the public schools of Oklahoma. This program provides pedagogy in the teaching of reading and specialized knowledge for working with children who find reading difficult. It will also prepare reading specialists to review and develop reading curricula for the schools in which they teach.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH THIS DEGREE?

• Reading specialist *

• Literacy coach *

• Design reading curricula

• Design reading assessments

• Teach as an adult-learning instructor *

• Editor/Publisher

• Teach reading in grades K-12th *

* Require certification

REQUIREMENTS/ GETTING STARTED

• Completed baccalaureate degree

• You must be a certified teacher

• Apply for admissions

• Speak with your advisor – Enroll in courses

• Pass all courses with a 3.0 average

• Pass OSAT for Reading Specialist (not required for completion of the degree)

COURSES/PRACTICUM

• There are 11 courses in the M.Ed Reading program

– 10 reading courses and 1 research course

• Many of the courses have meaningful field placements embedded in the course

• 100% online and 8-week formats

• Finish your degree in as little as 1 year (must begin spring semester)
