• If you are a CU student, state your major

• If you are not in school, where you work (if working) and previous major if a college graduate

• Grade level and/or subject you would like to teach

SPED BOOT CAMP FOR FALL

• SPED 5203 Children and Youth with Special Needs

• Fall Session Begins October 11th; Class sessions will meet face-to-face, with the option to Zoom and will be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings AND there is an online component (hybrid), plus a 30-hour field component in the public school

BOOT CAMP COST • Graduate Tuition Cost for in-state tuition – Tuition $594.00 – Fees $291.00 – Total $885.00 *Textbooks are $77.85-$142.15 (depending on new/used and if you buy/rent)

ROUTE TO CERTIFICATION

• Receive teaching certificate after successful completion of Boot Camp course;

• Obtain a teaching job

• 3 years to complete 18 additional graduate hours in special education coursework (6 hours/year)

– Must provide proof of progress at the end of each year (transcript and letter from Cameron—Dr. Keller, Director of Ed Prep office)

• Pass the OSAT & PPAT

WHEN & HOW DO I TAKE THE CERTIFICATION OSAT & PPAT EXAMS? • OSAT ($118) – Oklahoma Subject Area Test (in special education) • PPAT ($300) – Praxis Performance Assessment for Teachers (PPAT) • Registration Links – OSAT: www.ceoe.nesinc.com – PPAT: https://www.ets.org/ppa/test-takers/teachers/register/
GET YOUR DEGREE WHILE GETTING CERTIFIED! • Boot Camp + 18 hours = 21 hours • Receive your M.Ed. In Teaching and Learning with a Special Education concentration with only 5 additional classes! • Why get a master’s degree? – Additional training to make you more prepared to teach – Additional pay (approximately $2,000/year for your entire career in Education)

ANOTHER WAY: PARAPROFESSIONAL ROUTE
SPED
• Paraprofessional Route – Bachelor’s Degree with a 2.5 – 1 year’s experience as a paraprofessional in a special education classroom in a public school – Must have passed OSAT & PPAT prior to certification – Receive Certificate and Begin Teaching – Within 3 years, complete 12 hours (with 3 hours in reading instruction)
