SPED BOOT CAMP FOR FALL 2023
• SPED 5203 Children and Youth with Special Needs
• Summer Session Begins May 24th; Class sessions will meet face-to-face, with the option to Zoom and will be held from 4:30-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evenings AND there is an online component (hybrid), plus a 30-hour field component in the public school

June 7th, 14th, & 21st
• Boot camp qualifications:
– Must have bachelor’s degree (in any field)

2.75 GPA
• End of course=Oklahoma certificate to teach special education!
BOOT CAMP COST
• Graduate Tuition Cost for in-state tuition
*Textbooks are $77.85-$142.15 (depending on new/used and if you buy/rent)
– Tuition $627.00 – Fees $228.00 – Total $855.00

ROUTE TO CERTIFICATION
• Receive teaching certificate after successful completion of Boot Camp course;
• Obtain a teaching job
• 3 years to complete 18 additional graduate hours in special education coursework (6 hours/year)
– Must provide proof of progress at the end of each year (transcript and letter from Cameron—Dr. Keller, Director of Ed Prep office)
• Pass the OSAT & PPAT

– Oklahoma Subject Area Test (in special education)

– Praxis Performance Assessment for Teachers (PPAT)

ANOTHER WAY: PARAPROFESSIONAL ROUTE TO SPED CERTIFICATION
• Paraprofessional Route
–
Bachelor’s Degree with a 2.5
–
One year experience as a paraprofessional in a special education classroom in a public school
–
Must have passed OSAT prior to certification
–
Receive Certificate and Begin Teaching
– Within 3 years, complete 12 hours (with 3 hours in reading instruction) and pass PPAT
GET YOUR DEGREE WHILE GETTING CERTIFIED!
• Boot Camp + 18 hours = 21 hours
• Receive your M.Ed. in Education with a Special Education concentration with only 5 additional classes!
