LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Alumni and Friends: On behalf of Cameron University, thank you for your support of our students and our institution this year. Whether you are an alumnus, employee, friend or community leader, we appreciate your support and your gifts. Together, we increased student opportunities through outstanding learning experiences at an exceptional value. The onset of the coronavirus pandemic in March certainly brought the 2019-2020 academic year to an unusual conclusion. Over a matter of days in March, hundreds of physical classroom experiences were converted to virtual classrooms to allow our students to continue to have the opportunity to learn. I cannot thank our instructional staff enough for their commitment and flexibility during that time. I am also proud of the hundreds of CU students who were able to successfully complete their degrees during such adversity. We hosted a virtual celebration of our graduates on May 1 and our formal Commencement for the Class of 2020 was held on October 10. Enhancing the student learning experience with highly qualified and well supported faculty and staff and modern facilities is in the forefront of our efforts at Cameron. Cameron University is the least expensive university in Oklahoma but meeting our goal of affordability for all students in southwest Oklahoma requires our continued efforts and support. Your gifts support the increasing numbers of scholarships for students so they can take better advantage of learning opportunities. Your gifts do more than create affordability. The Endowed Faculty program allows us to hire, retain, and provide professional development opportunities for the wonderful educators who make the Cameron experience special. Other gifts support the creation and renovation of effective learning and activity spaces. Recent examples include another $1.25 million award to renovate the Library to add to the growing McMahon Foundation legacy at Cameron. The renovation will include additional collaboration spaces for students, increased technology, and construction of an atrium with a bistro and more study space. Construction is slated to begin during the 2020-2021 academic year. Through funds from the Jack Bryan Endowed Lectureship in Art, Cameron opened the Cameron University Art Teaching Gallery that provides a space for students to manage and present art work. A prior gift from the Gaskins Family is funding updated music practice spaces in Haggar Hall. We strive to be effective stewards of your gifts and the other resources provided to Cameron University or the Cameron University Foundation. I hope you will find evidence of our stewardship in the reports that follow. Thank you for providing the means to assure Cameron’s continuing commitment to the educational, cultural, and economic advancement of the communities we serve. Sincerely,
John M. McArthur, Ph.D. President 2
LETTER FROM THE CHAIR Dear Friends of Cameron University: Despite the unforeseen economic consequences that have accompanied Covid-19, the Cameron University Foundation concluded a successful fundraising year by surpassing $1.7 million in private gifts. This would not have been possible without the support of our donors. It is your vision and generosity that allowed the University to reach such a milestone in what we can all agree are unprecedented times. Private support plays a critical role in ensuring all students have the opportunity to further their pursuit of advanced learning opportunities. Like you, we believe that opening the door to higher education changes the lives of our students which positively impacts families and entire communities. During the 2019-2020 fiscal year, over $700,000 was awarded to students and faculty through privately funded endowments. Your generous contributions help students by providing quality educational opportunities that will leave a lasting impression on them for the rest of their lives. In 2016, Cameron created the Cameron Aggie Response (CARE) Fund in light of the budget reduction crisis to help offset operational costs during great times of need to ensure that budget limitations do not affect the success, learning, and services provided to Cameron students. In response to Covid-19, the Cameron Foundation, through the use of the CARE fund, created a grant program for students facing an emergency financial need. The Cameron University Foundation along with Cameron University are committed to student success and as such are committed to helping students overcome any financial hardships that could prevent them from continuing, and ultimately completing, their education. Because of donors like you, Cameron University will continue to thrive as it evolves to meet the needs of current Aggies and pave the way for future Aggies. On behalf of the Cameron University Foundation Board of Directors, I want to say Thank You. Sincerely,
Brian T. Henry Chair Cameron University Foundation

C onstructing the Future It’s not possible to reflect on southwest Oklahoma’s rich history without including the McMahon family and their incredible impact on shaping the southwest region of this state. An American middle-class family, Eugene “E.P.” McMahon, his wife Louise, and son Eugene Davis McMahon settled in the Lawton, Oklahoma Territory in 1901. At the turn of the century, Lawton was in the middle of its transfiguration from tents and dirt roads to permanent structures, installing telephone line and municipal offices. E.P. reveled in the potential opportunities that could be had in this new homestead. Louise, charming and sociable, became a successful piano teacher while E.P., a former lawyer, would enter the insurance and real estate industry. The family would quickly settle into their place in Lawton. At the age of 15, Eugene Davis began selling newspaper ads for the Lawton Constitution. After graduating from OU, Eugene would go on to become a newspaper manager as well as serve time in the armed forces during WWI. It wasn’t until after WWI ended that Eugene found great success through oil royalties. In 1936, E.P. McMahon passed away. Four years later, the McMahon Foundation was established with an endowment of $50,000 in combined assets from Eugene and his mother. Since then, the McMahon Foundation has awarded millions of dollars throughout Lawton to improve the quality of life for its citizens. Specifically, the McMahon Foundation has provided over $18 million in support to Cameron University, making it the leading donor in the university’s history. Most recently, the McMahon Foundation presented Cameron University a $1.25 million gift that will fund a substantial upgrade of the library on its main campus. Construction is slated to begin during the 2020-2021 academic year and will include additional collaboration spaces for students and faculty, meeting rooms that will be open for public use, and construction of an atrium to include a bistro. Additionally, there will be an emphasis on increased technology-enabled spaces, more access to electrical outlets, and better wireless connectivity. The renovation will also include an upgrade to the restroom facilities as well as parking adjacent to the library will be expanded. Expanding the library will greatly benefit our students and the community for many generations to come. By providing much needed updates to one of Cameron’s most utilized buildings, we hope to encourage students to take advantage of the resources provided to them and create an environment for better learning. Cameron remains dedicated to providing the best quality education to southwest Oklahoma. 7
