LEADERSHIP TRAINING

REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for a scholarship in the Presidential Leaders and University Scholars program an applicant must meet the following requirements: • Be a resident of Oklahoma • Achieve an unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher, OR have a GPA of 2.8 or higher and be in the top 25% of their graduating class • Achieve an ACT minimum composite score of 20 (or SAT equivalent), OR complete 6 credit hours of concurrent enrollment courses with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (developmental coursework is not eligible) • Demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities and potential as demonstrated by their resume and essay • Submit three letters of reference

The PLUS Scholar’s collegiate career concentrates on fostering each individual’s leadership potential by teaching fundamental leadership principles, including communication, ethics and diversity. Each student then functions as a leader and develops his or her individual leadership style through creating and organizing service activities requiring the use of those leadership principles.

Students who accept the scholarship must sign a contract including the following requirements: • Maintain a 2.5 GPA as a freshman and a 3.0 GPA in subsequent years • Enroll in and complete a full time class load (12 hours minimum per semester) • Make adequate yearly progress towards earning their degree • Live on campus during their freshman year • Become involved in student organizations and attend a minimum number of campus events • Participate fully in leadership activities and service projects as assigned each year • Complete 16 hours of community engagement through volunteering each semester The PLUS scholarship is renewable for eight semesters (fall and spring) for students who successfully complete the requirements of their scholarship contract.

With leadership development as the primary focus of the PLUS program, PLUS scholars are prepared for their leadership roles in society through education and practical training. Opportunities for leadership growth and acquiring vital leadership skills are augmented through class meetings and activities throughout the year.

THE AWARD Recipients of a PLUS scholarship receive a tuition waiver covering up to 18 hours of enrollment each semester, a double room waiver. An $800 stipend during the first year and a $500 stipend during their fourth year in the program are provided if students are in good standing. Fees and meal plans are not included.
