Cameron University is a regional, public university serving Southwest Oklahoma and a global learning community. The university is governed by the Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma within a state system coordinated by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. Cameron University offers associates, baccalaureate, and master’s degree programs.

Student Life at Cameron University

Office of Events and Activities

The Office of Events and Activities acts as a catalyst for student growth and development by facilitating programs that provide opportunities to connect to the institution and empowering students to enrich their university experience. Cameron offers 60 organizations ranging from academic to service to special interest to social to Greek. CU also hosts spirit events that help all students feel connected to Cameron.

Greek Life

Greek Life allows members to be connected to Cameron University, show a commitment to service and develop a commitment to social excellence. The three sororities on campus are Alpha Phi, Gamma Delta Pi and Omega Zeta Theta. The two fraternities are Kappa Sigma Colony and Sigma Tau Gamma.

Student Government acts as the voice of the students

Aggie Rec Center

The Aggie Rec Center promotes and encourages the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle by providing tools and opportunities to achieve each individual’s personal fitness goals. Cameron is committed to providing an active environment for social interaction, all while maintaining a friendly, safe and positive atmosphere.

Programming Activities Council

PAC plans on campus events for students such as Homecoming, Welcome Week and Grocery Bingo. PAC also gives students an opportunity to travel to away athletic events with the Rolling with the Aggies program.

Student Wellness Center

The mission of the Student Wellness Center is to enhance the physical and mental health of Cameron University students. Services include medical care for acute conditions, mental health counseling, monthly education programs and interactive workshops.

Financial Assistance (FAFSA)

Applying for financial aid at Cameron University begins with the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA application is used to apply for nearly all types of financial assistance including federal, state and institutional aid. The results of the application assist the financial aid office in determining how much and what type of aid may be awarded. Remember that filing is free! Be sure to designate Cameron University as your first choice by entering our school code, 003150.

Pell Grants and OTAG

Pell Grants are awarded to eligible undergraduate students who are working on their first bachelor’s degree. Pell Grants will fund up to 12 credit hours per term and up to 24 credit hours per academic year (fall and spring). However, if you enroll for the summer semester, you may be eligible for additional Pell Grants under certain circumstances.

The Oklahoma Tuition Assistance Grant, also known as OTAG, is funded by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE). The student must be an undergraduate and enrolled in at least 6 credit hours to receive OTAG funding. OTAG awards are distributed on a basis of first-to-apply, along with strict income guidelines and availability of funds.

Federal Student Loans

If you find that you will need to borrow money to assist in covering the complete cost of your college education, there are federal loans available to you. Three common types of federal loans are direct subsidized loans, direct unsubsidized loans and direct PLUS loans.

Federal Work Study, Institutional Work Study

The work-study program is a student employment program that provides students with an opportunity to be placed in part-time jobs on campus that accommodate their academic schedules.

Cameron University has opted to participate in the Test Score Optional Admission Policy. Scholarships will be adjusted according to academic criteria.

Cameron University is proud to offer transfer scholarships to students who qualify. Cameron University has created partnerships with Rogers State University and Western Oklahoma State College.

Financial Assistance Veterans Affairs

Are you a military connected student?

Cameron University is certified by the Oklahoma State Accrediting Agency to the Veterans Administration (VA) as an approved training institution for certain veterans, eligible dependents or survivors and active service members who qualify for federally-enacted education benefits administered.

VA Chapter Benefits

Chapter 30: Montgomery GI Bill

This benefit is for active duty and veterans; not transferable to dependents.

Chapter 31: Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment

This benefit is for veterans who have at least a 20% disability rating. However, approval is not guaranteed; up to 48 months of entitlement possible.

Chapter 33: Post-9/11 GI Bill

This benefit is for active duty and veterans who may be eligible for up to 36 months of benefit. This benefit may be transferred to qualifying dependents, with restrictions.

Chapter 35: Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) Program

This benefit is for spouses and children of disabled veterans or veterans who died in service; up to 45 months of entitlement are allowed.

Chapter 1606: Montgomery GI Bill

This benefit is for Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR), National Guard and Reserves who have completed the initial active duty training and 180 days of service in the Selected Reserves. May be eligible for up to 36 months of benefit.

Student Housing and Residential Life at Cameron University is dedicated to providing a quality living experience that complements the academic mission of Cameron University and provides for the holistic development of our residents.

The Shepler Center is comprised of two ten-story buildings, providing Cameron students with a traditional learning experience.

Research shows that living on campus makes it easier for residents to be successful. At Cameron University, Student Housing and Residential Life is dedicated to providing the environment and resources to allow our residents to be successful in the classroom as well as, in life.

Cameron Village

Cameron Village combines all of the amenities of what a student would expect at an apartment complex but provides the convenience of living on campus with other like-minded students and an opportunity to be a part of a community.

Shepler Dining Hall

Cameron University offers a dining program complete with signature brands and menu selections that include just about every item you can imagine. The Shepler Dining Hall features a wide variety of fresh food designed to satisfy everyone’s appetite.

MCC Student Union Food Court

The McMahon Centennial Complex is home to the Aggies Grab-N-Go Retail Store where guests can purchase prepackaged snacks, bottled beverages and SimplyTo-Go creations that will meet individual desires. The Food Court also houses four different retail restaurants all within a central location:

Pizza Hut ExpressTM

Enjoy fresh-baked dough smothered with Pizza Hut’s own special tomato sauce and topped with a double layer of mozzarella cheese.

SubconnectionTM

Cold or toasted subs and wraps are prepared-to-order with high-quality meats and cheeses, fresh produce and a variety of freshly baked breads.

FreshensTM

Freshens offers premium yogurt, fruit and all-natural blended smoothies. Additionally, select Starbucks beverages are prepared in the Freshens Cafe as the main “We Proudly Serve” Starbucks location on the CU Lawton campus.

Pick Axe GrillTM

Pick Axe Grill offers high-quality menu items such as cheeseburgers, Philly cheese steak sandwiches, quesadillas, onion rings, “Fear Fries” and rotating daily specials. All items are made-to-order to be served fresh off the grill.

Student Resources at Cameron

Student Support Services (TRIO)

Student Support Services is a federally funded Title IV grant program whose mission is to offer academic support services to Cameron University students who are first generation college students, have an economic need or have a documented disability. SSS seeks to enrich the college experience for the students who are accepted into the program. Services offered by the SSS program include academic advising services, computer facilities and services, math and writing tutoring services, workshops and financial assistance.

The Student Enrichment Center

The Student Enrichment Center provides a variety of support services to students facing obstacles in successful degree completion. The Student Enrichment Center is funded through a Title III Strengthening Institutions Federal Grant.

Academic Advising Center

All students are assigned a professional/faculty advisor during their time at Cameron. Advisors are there to help you choose a degree program that fits your career goals and help you develop and follow your own individual path to graduation.

The Cameron Aggies sponsor 15 NCAA Division Il athletic programs and are a proud member of the Lone Star Conference, which is now at 17 members. The 15 CU teams included men’s and women’s basketball, outdoor and indoor track, cross country, tennis, and golf as well as baseball, softball, and volleyball.
