WHO IS OLE KIM? “CAMERON FIGHT!” WHO WE ARE Cameron Univeristy is a regional, public university serving Southwest Oklahoma and a global learning community. The university is governed by the Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma within a state system coordinated by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. Cameron University offers associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degree programs.
(The Aggies’ Fight Song) We’ll fight to the end Cameron Aggies, Fight for our honored name. We’ll back you all the way, you know, for spirit is in our fame.
Cameron’s mascot is Ole Kim, an ex-Caval ry officer who sought his fortune in the Wichita Mountains' gold rush of the early 1900s before becoming a cowboy, and then a Cameron student.
So here’s to the Cameron Aggies, Here’s to the Black and Gold. Yes, Fight! Fight! Cameron Aggies all the way!
He first appeared as a drawing of a cowboy in the 1955 yearbook, then was given the name “Ole Kim” in 1960 during a campus contest. In 1964, a costume was created for the home coming parade and a tradition was born. More than 40 students have portrayed Ole Kim over the years.
C-A-M-E-R-O-N Aggies!
Ole Kim remains a popular figure on campus!

S T R O P ES
Cameron University has added a new type of student sports team, although these players won’t be found on the basketball or tennis court, on a golf course, or running track. Instead, they make up CU’s new esports (electronic sports) team, where players compete in digital arenas in multi-layer video game competitions. Collegiate esports is becoming one of the fastest-growing student activities on campuses across the country, and Cameron University has joined the field of competition.

Many of my colleagues grew up playing OG Super Mario Bros., or Goldeneye 64 or Smash on the GameCube. While most of us are not professionals by any stretch of the imagination, those of us who grew up in this culture have a tremendous interest in the production and the spectator side of esports. For CU, the Pickaxes are just another pure, collegiate-level sports team to root for. It is fantastic. – PROFESSOR & CHAIR OF COMMUNICATION, ENGLISH AND FOREIGN LANGUAGES,
CHRISTOPHER KELLER
