SITUATIONS OF CONSEQUENCE Use. Design. Engineer. Build. Repeat. This mantra drives everything we do here at Black Diamond. While much of this time-tested process takes place at the desk, in the lab and on the manufacturing ﬂoor, it begins and ends with our time in the mountains, where innovation is born from experience. We build gear and clothing like our life depends on it, because in many instances, it does. As climbers and skiers, we know that there are many risks inherent to our passions. Every time we click into our bindings, strap on our crampons or cinch down our harnesses, we

place our faith in the tools of our trade. And although the sheer joy of skiing an over-theshoulders run or standing on a jagged summit is a large part of what compels us, fear and consequence are ever-present companions as well—either enriching the experience beyond words or, in a heartbeat, becoming our worst enemies. We go to the mountains for many different reasons, but the important thing is that we go. That we willingly insert ourselves into situations of consequence, to learn from them—about our surroundings, our partners and ourselves. There’s no substitute for a ﬁt body and a sound mind, but when it really matters, it’s the tools we choose that can give us the protection and performance we need in unpredictable and unforgiving mountain terrain.

APPAREL DESIGN PRINCIPLES We are both toolmakers and users of tools. The equipment we create is fundamentally defined by this fact. As it has for decades, our design ethos demands that a Black Diamond product work with efficiency and purposefulness. We approach the Black Diamond apparel line with the same ethos and process: define the intended use, identify materials that suit the task, design with functionality first, then use, refine, and reduce until the cleanest, strongest, most effective solution remains. Our apparel is built around three primary considerations: fit, form and function.

Designed with an athletic ﬁt, engineered with clean lines and built to perform in a wide range of environments, they are ﬂattering silhouettes that deliver performance and protection in alpine environments.

Zipper Pull

Our fit is best described as lean and athletic. Streamlined and efficient, each product is patterned and fitted for movement in the vertical environment.

We work with metal every day. These custom zipper pulls take cues from the industrial design of our own hardgoods. Made of anodized aluminum.

Form-ﬁtting, fully articulated hoods are built around the need to work well with or without a helmet.

We make a chest pocket standard on nearly all of our jackets. They’re easy to access and out of the way of pack straps and harnesses.

An evolution in form, our cuff tabs feature a unique three-part construction that optimizes texture, suppleness and holding power.

Despite our best efforts to unplug, technology doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Rather than ﬁght it, we decided to give it a good place to live.

WOMEN’S FIT In preparing our first collection of technical women’s outerwear, we combined a meticulous design and fit process with the most advanced textiles available. To build a line specifically suited to the demands of women alpine athletes, we began with a

slim and athletic sizing model and tailored each piece to end uses that value a close but comfortable fit. Clean lines, both functional and flattering in their simplicity, define the resulting forms—pieces that move with you through alpine environments.

Weather-resistant and treated with DWR, this new zipper combines a smooth action with reliability in the ﬁeld and a distinctive point of view.

Our pants and shorts are designed for the maximum freedom of movement that climbing demands.

We’ve built a climbing gusset into all of our pants and shorts to provide ample room for high steps and heel hooks.

Pants have a rollable cuff—ideal for quickly and cleanly adjusting the pant length, depending on the climbing or the weather.

Engineered for low bulk under a harness, our innovative ladder-lock waistbelt is designed speciﬁcally for climbing.

And because the Cohaesive™ hardware is bonded directly to the fabric, the result is almost invisible: a seamless integration of technology and apparel.

Our shells are built using a meticulous design and ﬁt process that embodies our commitment to treating apparel as an integral part of your alpine toolkit. So to design the next generation of hardshell, Black Diamond sought out the best fabrics, ﬁnishes and components available. For fabric, that meant GORE-TEX®, the ultimate building block for technical outerwear. Known for being incredibly waterproof and highly breathable, it stands up to the abrasion and abuse dished out by the world’s harshest environments.

In designing this collection, we chose GORE-TEX®’s most advanced fabrics: GORE-TEX® Pro and GORE-TEX® Active. Engineered for extended use in extreme conditions, GORE-TEX® Pro is the foundation of our most protective shells. GORE-TEX® Active is ideal for high-output, fast-paced pursuits where weight, packability and breathability are paramount. We combined both with embedded Cohaesive™ hardware to create a line of technically advanced hardshells tuned for aerobic single-day pushes and rugged alpine expeditions.

Wet belays, snow caves and winter camps: to meet the most challenging demands of skiers, climbers and alpinists, we built all of our down outerwear with PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation Down Blend, made from 70% high-loft, weather-treated goose down and 30% compressible, ultra-fine PrimaLoft fibers. Fusing the benefits of natural and synthetic insulations for active use in variable environments, the resulting fill is warm when wet and extremely durable both in construction and weather resistance.
