or the first time in Daviess County history, the Republican primary race will determine who the next county judge-executive will be. With no Democratic candidates having filed, it is crucial for the residents of Daviess County to vote in the primary election on May 20, in order to have a voice in their representation.

The candidates for the judge-executive race have been given opportunities by the Chamber to provide both written and video-recorded responses to questions that affect the Greater Owensboro business community. Goodman to address changes in journalism, politics and candidates over past 50 years Since 1996, Bill Goodman has been the host and managing editor of the Emmy Award-winning public affairs series “Kentucky Tonight” on KET (Kentucky Educational Television). Additionally, he serves as host for “Education Matters,” KET’s election night coverage, and “One to One with Bill Goodman,” where he has conducted compelling conversations with guests including Pulitzer Prize

winner George Will; Nikky Finney, poet, professor and recipient of the National Book Award for Poetry; actor Richard Dreyfuss; current and former Kentucky political leaders; and many others. In April 2013, Bill was inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame. Writer of the KET blog “Bill’s Eye,” Bill also holds an MFA in

Chamber to host new networking event for members The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce is bringing a new networking event to our members, The Lunch Bunch. It is our hope that this organized networking event expands our members’ sphere of influence as well as creates more referrals for their businesses. The Lunch Bunch will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the fourth Friday of each month. The location will change each month as the venue rotates each session for momentum and exposure to our members. From 11:30 - 11:50 a.m., we ask

that you join us with a brown bag lunch to socialize. Following lunch, there will be a fun, high-energy agenda to help network and meet as many guests as possible. The event will close each month with referral celebrations and prizes. Contact information of the attendees from each session will be shared with all of those in attendance in an excel format for follow-up. The May Lunch Bunch is scheduled for Friday, May 23 at Captured Moments Photography. Come join The Lunch Bunch fun and network with several Chamber members!

Creative Nonfiction from Spalding University. His collection of personal essays, titled “Beans, Biscuits, Family and Friends: Life Stories,” will be published in the spring of 2014. A native of Glasgow, Bill graduated from Western Kentucky University. Prior to coming to KET, Bill worked at TV stations in Nashville and Houston. He currently lives in Lexington.

Emerge Owensboro Alumni and Graduation Reception set for Thursday, May 8 The 2014 Emerge Owensboro class will graduate and host an alumni reception from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 8 at the Greater Owensboro Commerce Center Conference Room, 200 East Third St. The 26 participants in the 2014 class, along with any Emerge Owensboro or Leadership Owensboro alumni, are invited to attend the free event to meet some of the newest leadership candidates for our community. Emerge Owensboro is a joint program of the Chamber of Commerce and the

Economic Development Corporation. The Emerge participants have attended monthly sessions since September, where they’ve learned about local issues, traveled to Frankfort to meet with state leaders and learned leadership skills.
