One More Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and you just have to go with the flow and see if you can still hit that ball out of the park. Take these life challenges and use them to motivate yourself to your fullest potential. Very often you have to fail to appreciate success. Stay strong, be focused and put all of your effort behind what it is you are trying to accomplish. Remember even the most accomplished person has seen the lows of the valley while pushing themselves to rise to the height of the mountain tops. I often tell myself that failure is not an option. Now don’t get me wrong I have failed more times than I would like to think about. But what made the failure worth it was that I learned from my mistakes and picked myself up and pushed myself on to the next hurdle. Envision the unattainable so that you can transform it to the attainable. This month I am challenging you to find that lost part of yourself that thought, “I can’t do that”, “I am too old now”, “If I could I would”, “If I only had more time” and take 1 hour a week to work towards what you thought couldn’t be done. I promise you will rekindle that part of you and before you know it you will be on your way towards chasing after your dreams. XOXOXO

Dear Editor I really enjoyed reading your magazine! So many great tips on beauty, cosmetics, and fashion. What's not to love about it! I especially loved the article Fall Trends. The Facts of Life! What your Mother Never Told YOU

By Betzy Cordero

Your mother, or father,

or whoever raised you growing up, was your very first teacher. You learned a lot from them. They taught to speak, walk,

But as you grew older, there were some things that mom

How Can I Stop The JIGGLE By Keri Bond

Strength training is necessary to reducing jiggle.

With regular strength training, Perlman, claims, “in just

Dont Turn Heads, Break Necks By Katrina Cleofe

Like some amazon queen, other women

everyone's heads turn to admire the beauty.

What if the beauty of the woman is so intense because of her thick voluptuous body that in-

stead of turning heads she breaks them. There is a large difference between the “pretty girl” and being “that girl”. Pretty girls catch occasional glances, muffled whispers, or maybe even a free drink.

“That Girl” is an entirely different sto-

of women. I have to rely on my humor, hours of primping time, and about three pounds of mascara to get me through an evening. “That

Girl” relies on nothing, can enter a room, and silence the whole place.

LABOR HELP! By Cassandra Carter It is said to give birth to a baby is one of

the most life changing experience a woman

could ever go through. From the very moment she finds out she is pregnant all kinds of

thoughts run through her mind, especially as it pertains to how to handle herself during her 9

month journey. She has to be very mindful and

cautious about what she eats what activities she commits to, even how she lays down when she

is resting. A good mother would never want to do anything that would jeopardize the health

and well-being of her baby. An expecting woman is a woman whose emotions can sometimes

get out of control and it is important for the people who are around them to know a little about how to support them during this time. Here are a few tips to help comfort an expecting woman.

The first thing you want to do is make sure she is as comfortable as possible. Although I have yet to

have children, I could only imagine how uncom-

fortable it is for a woman to have another human being inside of her. The ability to be comfortable is vital to an expecting

woman. Help her to change positions that will help alle-

viate some of the discomfort and pain she may be experiencing.

If possible, try to elevate her feet so that her feet do not

swell. It is a known fact that elevating the feet helps to

prevent them from swelling as well as water developing inside. Elevating the feet

also helps to elevate pain as well.

Make sure the expecting mother drinks plenty of fluids and eats a well-balanced

meal. This will help to restore her energy,

Sources— http://www.ghananewsagency.org ,http://www.thehomeopathiccoach.com,http://www.gendenk.org,digitaljorunal.com

allowing her to remain revived and energetic throughout the day. Energetic

strength is very important; after all, she is caring for herself as well as her baby.

Remind her to relief herself every hour. Women who had children will tell

you a full bladder is not only uncomfortable but can also stall your labor.

Alleviate all forms of stress for her. An expecting mother has a lot on her

mind. Try to alleviate all forms of unnecessary stress so that she can relax and be tranquil while she is waiting to give birth.

Most of all, you want to be there for her when she needs you. Sometimes expecting mothers

want to be touched, sometimes they do not.

Whatever mood they are in, just be there. Be

there when they need to cry, be there when they need to laugh, even be there when they feel the need to yell at

someone. This is a very sensitive time for her you need to

make sure her surroundings are as peaceful, caring, loving

“Be there when they need to cry, be there when they need to laugh, even be there when they feel the need to yell at someone. and helpful as possible. One more vital point, once the baby is born do not stop pampering her. Most women fall into s depression because all the love and care they were shown during their pregnancy dissipates after the baby has been born. Her help to ease into caring for the baby by caring for her in a way that make her feel loved and appreciated. This will make the baby, mother and home happy.

I am Dawn Wright and my husband is Damon Wright. Damon is a man sent from God. He is a good man. He supports my every endeavor and I support his. We have known each other practically from the womb so it was not surprising when we became engaged and got married. The ceremony was a fairytale dream and after the dream was over, Damon and I had our first child, Dia. Dia was my first child and she was the most beautiful gift from heaven you ever did see. She had a smile that makes

and china sets. She used to play with them for hours at a time. Damon and I were always her special guests when she put on her little tea parties. Dia was Damon’s pride and joy. He loved her so much that it never embarrassed him to squeeze his hips into her little tea party chairs and sip tea with his pinky hanging out. That was such a happy time for our family and for me because Dia and I were so very close. This is until her 15th birthday.

When Dia started high school things began to change

we had to keep her on a leash. Her behavior caused all

slowly but surely. Of course her body was changing but

her attitude as well. She is a very outgoing person so natu- tion the embarrassment we both felt to see our daughter rally she made friends very easily, especially with the opposite sex. I will say one thing about my daughter, she is very honest and it hurt me to my heart when she told me she was sexually active. My Dia, my baby, having sex at the age of 15. I was horrified but honored that she did not hide her activities from me. After she told me she was no longer a virgin, it seems like all hell broke loose and she wanted to have sex all the time. I suppose taking her to get birth control pills didn’t help but what was I to do. I didn’t want her to be out there bumping and grinding but if she is going to do it, I have to instill in her to do it safely. Damon and I were called constantly and told that someone saw our daughter hooked up with some guy and most of the time we didn’t know who he was. We felt as though

behaving like a common harlot. Can someone tell me where we went wrong? We gave her all the love we had to give, exposed her to different cultures and spend more time with her than most parents do with their kids. Did we not love her enough, did we not clearly define for her who she is and how precious she is? My heart aches every time we talk with her because I’m fearful that she will tell us she is pregnant or worse that she has some incurable disease. We have tried everything and now it is in God’s hands. Pray for guidance because Dia is my daughter, Damon is my husband and both are at odds with each other. I cannot choose, I will not choose yet what am I to do? What would you do?

Before you seek out a therapist, ask yourself how much time you want to spend in treatment so that you can limit your search to those who would be more compatible with your needs. Please remember that therapy is a process and it may take multiple sessions, which could be weeks or even years before you are where you want to be with progress. Some therapies are meant to be confrontational and you need to be aware of that. You may also call around and ask treatment providers what therapies they use such as cognitive behavioral therapy, 12-steps, dialectical behavioral therapy, and many others. Have them explain what they actually mean tailoring the techniques to your needs. Don’t be afraid to so that you are sure you would want to work with them.

I would also suggest that you join or at least observe some support groups dealing with your issue, because you can always find someone who might have a therapist they like that you could try. Take your time with choosing and don’t let financial issues stop you as some therapists use a sliding fee scale to be more accommodating. Don’t be afraid to take initiative and advocate for yourself. Research online, call around, and ask about speaking directly with a therapist. If you have had negative past experiences, don’t assume that locating a compassionate, strengthsbased and sincere therapist is impossible because we are out there.

By Nicole Perez The saying “mind over matter” is one used

commonly to describe that the mind is simply more

powerful than the body. With the belief and positive

thinking anyone can overcome anything, even physical. You just need to think you can. It’s been proven

time and time again, that the mind is a very powerful thing to have. But how can we tap into our inner strength and prevail over physical challenges?

With many inspirational stories out there it all

NoSe Piercing By Ana Berrocal Do you have a piercing? Thinking about getting a piercing and aren’t quite sure about where to get it? Maybe you are afraid of the pain or whether it will look good. It is completely normal to be afraid and debate your decision. Getting a piercing is a big decision. The biggest trend today is the nose piercing. Many celebrities such as Jordin Sparks, Christina Aguilera, Scarlett Johansonn, Pink and Mary J. Blige have pierced their noses. In fact the nose is the second most popular body part to pierce. Now you are thinking to yourself, “Yes I want to pierce my nose, but do I have the right type of nose for a piercing? Maybe you believe your nose is too wide or too small for a nose ring or stud. That is completely normal. Just like you can test drive a car before you buy it you can test out a piercing. Before making the big decision, buy a magnetic nose stud and place it where you would like your piercing. This will help you determine where and on

So far I have met some wonderful young talent; it will be fun to watch them grow as they develop their own brands. 2. Being a model, do you believe it is hard to break into the plus size industry? Honestly, I feel like I'm always trying to break into the industry. I know that sounds odd con-

sidering what I've accomplished but just like with any career choice you have to constantly reinvent yourself. I have factors that I battle against everyday in order to work. All models

do. Every plus size client is an opportunity for a model to work. However, for every 1 client you have 100 models vying to get that job.

3. What advice would you give to aspiring models or young talent that want to break into the industry but cannot because of their background or lack of experience?

My advice first would be to figure out where they belong. Mainstream models have to be a certain height and typically are within a certain size range. Fit models have different require-

ments, again petite plus have different perimeters, too. Educate yourself about where you fit in. Location can always be changed, some physical attributes can be changed too, however,

permanent alterations to your appearance are going to limit your chances...I spoke with a model yesterday who was covered in tattoos and would like to be a mainstream model. Due to the markings, that is a very limited goal. Now, the alternative industry would welcome her in a

heart beat. There is room for many variations of beauty; you just need to find the one that fits the best. My second piece of advice would be that the industry is full of "you need tears to get

work but you can't get work without tears"...it's rough in the beginning but it only takes one job to change everything. Stick with it and know that nothing good comes easy.

I would want to stop segregation. Stop the division of ranks. There are models out there, all sizes that can accomplish the exact same thing. They can pose the same, their beauty is equal, and their walk is as fierce as the next

The only good thing though is that person motivates you to just charge them and knock them out of the way. This is what our industry is gearing up to do….well that’s how it feels anyway. 16. How has being a model changed your views about plus size women? From day one I realized the position I was in. How what I did and the jobs I took affected the women around me. After each fashion show, when I was exiting the buildings, patrons would come up to me and tell me how beautiful we all looked, or how they loved seeing us up there on the stage with other models. Skip ahead several years, having moved to Italy, I met a woman who actually knew who I was based on the jobs I had done, ads she had seen me in. I hadn’t really thought about myself as being ‘known’ outside of the industry but here was this beautiful, full figured woman thanking me for doing my job. I’ve learned the impact we have on the women who view us. We show

1 cucumber (English or regular doesn’t matter) 1 can small black olives 1 container feta cheese 1 bottle of Kraft Olive Oil Greek Dressing Cook your pasta and drain it. Let it cool. Dice your tomato and cucumber, put in a bowl. Add the olives. If you want to make the olives stretch further you can cut them in half but I usually leave them whole. Add Feta to taste. Some people love it, some like it. You can put in as much as you wish. Then add the cooled pasta. Mix together and then add about ½ the bottle of dressing. Mix some more then let sit in fridge for at least a few hours before the event so it’s nice a cool. This is a great summer dinner idea too, just add diced chicken to it. You can make this recipe as big or as small as you like. It all depends on how many people you have to serve, just double or triple the ingredients. 18. Are Gel Manicures Dangerous? By Eugenia Saphire As if it weren’t hard enough to keep a good manicure, now dermatologists are raising concerns

about the safety of gel manicures. Shellac, a polish by Creative Nail Design , or CND, is painted on like regular nail polish, except that it’s hardened under a UV light. With Shellac’s rise in popularity, there is discussion in the medical community about the cancer concerns associated with UV lights. According to an article written by consumer advocate Jenn Strathman of NewsNet5.com in Cleve-

land, “…In the medical journal, “ Archives of Dermatology,” doctors wrote about two women who got

skin cancer on their hand, even though they had no family history of the disease. The article stated that the women

According to the article, one woman had a 15-year history of twice monthly UV nail light exposure while the other woman had exposure eight times in one year before developing skin cancer. ”It’s a mini sun tan power to your fingers,” Bass said. Creative Nail Design disagreed and said an independent study showed UV nail lamps are safe. In a

news release the company said, “Recent reports fail to properly measure UV light rays, overestimate exposure from UV nail lamps and incorrectly attribute skin cancer.” CND said the study showed the amount of UV-B light in 10 minutes of exposure to a nail lamp is the same as spending a 30 extra seconds in the sun every day for the two weeks between salon appointments.”

When your hair is wet, apply amika’s Obliphica Oil and let air dry If you don’t have the time to let air dry, then you can blow smooth or rough dry, with the amika NRG Professional Drying System, no need for a flat iron or curling iron. Once your hair is dry, secure your hair into a tight pony, making sure you brush in all the loose hairs, and placement is at your crown If you find yourself getting “bagginess” at the nape of your neck, look up towards the ceiling when securing your ponytail, this will make sure it is very tight Once in the ponytail, feel free to run a drop of amika’s Obliphica Oil over the top and sides of your head, this will add sine, and remove any flyaways. Now simply take your ponytail and wrap into a circle until you have a little of the ends remaining and pin!

Book Review

A Time to Remember This book is about the history of Pilgrims and the history of America. This book is about how they evolved and what happen during the first years in America. These Pilgrims seem much more human than the remote and austere Pilgrims most of us learned about in school. We see their passion in the story of two young men dueling over a beautiful 15-year-old girl. We understand their fears when we read the stomach-turning description of conditions inside the Mayflower--no privacy, fresh air, or proper sanitation. It is thanksgiving!! The book teaches us about the sacrifices of the Pilgrims and their freedom. They also became friends with the Native Americans and created a lasting form of government . This book also includes interesting stories about gratuity over grumbling and how the practice of feasting ( Thanksgiving originated) Rainey also wrote the book for parents so that they can tell stories of the sacrifices on Thanksgiving. Not forgetting that these stories relate to our daily lives and how it has afftected our now life. Rainey also added her traditions and also her families tradition into this book. It has all the value of American history and also the value of Thanksgiving.
