Journey into the HEART of JESUS

Insight Kingdom

March/April 2012 Volume 14

Pastors’ Page Journey into the HEART of JESUS Jesus is hanging from a cross of intense suffering and shame. And from dry, parched lips He speaks. Are they words of pity or is He pronouncing judgment? No. Amazingly, they are words of forgiveness, assurance, compassion, anguish, suffering, and finally words of submission.

Last words are always important. But surely there can be no last words as significant as those of Jesus on the cross. Here we see His heart, His love for people, people whom He would be redeeming. In these words, we see the humanity of Jesus. In His final words, Jesus leaves us all a powerful example. Think about what you would talk about if you knew you were looking into the eyes of family, friends and enemies for the last time. Such a moment would be a sacred moment. It would be a time for you to carefully weigh your words and speak what you believe is most important for your listeners to remember after you are gone. If you had the opportunity to speak your last words to those whom you love, wouldn’t you chose your words carefully? Wouldn’t be a time to say the things that were most important and dear to your heart -‐ words that communicated the deepest emotions of your soul to your loved ones and even bystanders? From now to Easter, let’s journey together into the heart of Jesus as we hear His final words from the cross. Pastor Bob

Vision: Life with Jesus - everyday, everywhere.

Mission: To be a community of believers fully devoted to Christ making disciples in our City and beyond.

AT THE CROSS The five thousand fed Those raised from the dead For them he paid the cost But they were distant at the cross The possessed that were freed Those provided their need They thanked him on that day But on the cross where were they? The lost in whom he sought The multitudes that were taught They chose to praise his name But at Calvary they never came In the end as Jesus hung Aching body, gasping lung Was a criminal nearing death That learned before final breath That Jesus is truly royalty The lion worthy of loyalty Not by miracles performed Or the way that he was born But by being at the cross On the day when all seemed lost To witness the willing sacrifice Choose to pay the ultimate price

NO GOD COULD EVER FORGIVE ME

Saturday & Sunday April 7th & 8th, 6pm

In a prison system full of hate, violence and hopelessness, one man seeks to bring hope and forgiveness to others who are lost. But when a dark and cruel secret is revealed to him, the very fabric of his faith is put to the test. Can he put aside his personal hurt and offer God’s forgiveness to those who caused him pain, or are there some sins that can never be forgiven?

Parenting Tips Envision a Positive Future Take a few minutes and imagine what your children will be like as adults. Some parents have immediate thoughts of terror and doom, but instead, look at the good qualities your children have and imagine how those qualities will benefit them later in life. Then share those observations with your children. Envisioning a positive future looks beyond the day-to-day discipline and says, "I see qualities in you that are going to make you successful." Statements like, "With that kind of thoughtfulness you're going to make a great husband." Or "Your thoroughness is going to make you a valuable employee someday." When parents learn to view their children this way, they look past the daily grind of parenting to what their children are becoming. What is my child good at? What do I see now that will bring success as my child grows? We've probably all heard the statement that children believe what we say about them. If a parent tells a child he'll never amount to anything, he's likely to incorporate that into his belief about himself and it may end up becoming true. We can take that same principle and teach our children to see the good in themselves, the specific ways that God has blessed them. Interestingly enough, giving our children a positive vision for the future encourages them to live up to it now. The qualities we focus on end up being the ones they see in themselves and develop. Envisioning a positive future gives our children hope and direction. It says, "You're going to make it." "I believe in you." It's a way to honor our children. Like giving them a gift that will last a lifetime, a hopeful way of looking at themselves and their life. After all God does this for us on a regular basis. Verses like Philippians 1:6 give us hope to live now to the fullest. "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." This parenting tip comes from the book, Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining, and Bad Attitudes, In You and Your Kids, by Dr Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller, RN, BSN.

Journey to Discipleship Christ -‐ Growing in the Knowledge of Christ -‐ 2 Peter 3:18

The first step in our faith Journey is to gain a greater understanding of Christ through study of the Bible and the prac9ce of prayer.

Character -‐ Being Transformed into the Image of Christ -‐ James 1:23-‐24, 2 Corinthians 3:18

We should examine ourselves and compare our character to that of Christ's. This is a life-‐long process, but we need to start somewhere.

Calling -‐ Pursuing the Call of Christ -‐ Philippians 3:14, 1 Peter 2:21

God has a plan and purpose for us. As we discover our giEings, we are more prepared to walk in our des9ny.

Community -‐ Serving the Body of Christ -‐ Ephesians 2:10, Romans 12:3-‐8

The first expression of our giEs is oEen in a ministry or group in the community of faith. We are all parts of the Body. Are we doing our part?

Care -‐ Loving the NaLons as Christ -‐ 2 Corinthians 5:14-‐15, 20, MaOhew 28:19-‐20

Our calling extends to making disciples of all na9ons. When we care, we give people the opportunity to experience God's love in a prac9cal way, so we can invite them to start a faith journey.
