Project Objective:

Restoring Respect and Dignity to the Widows of Vrindavan.

Key accomplishments: 1. Maitri launched a daily midday meal distribution programme for 70 widow mothers at a new location (Ram Shyam Mandir, Vrindavan). 2. Maitri has started constructing Maitri Ghar, which will be a home for 100 elderly and abandoned widow mothers. 3. Created a new blog dedicated to Widows of Vrindavan. Upcoming Efforts: 1. Cataract check up camp. 2. Scaling up of the programme to include additional widow mothers. 3. Provision of a free evening tea to widows in Radha Kund. 4. Income generation opportunities to augment income and encourage the widow mothers to be self-reliant.

Project Obective:

Program to Reduce Violence Against Women

Key Accomplishments

 Launched “Count on Me Pledge Campaign”- a million signature campaign to end violence against women. Those who sign the pledge vow to never commit any acts of violence against women or allow them to happen to anyone else. ●

Collected over 2000 signatures so far.

Created an online platform through www.change.org, enabling the campaign to be shared through mass media.

Have designed presentations to be given at local schools for grades 8-12.

Raised awareness about violence against women, especially domestic violence, through social media platforms.

Created a new blog dedicated to Domestic Violence in India.

20-21 May 2013: Domestic violence and gender sensitization workshop for approximately 320 police officers and constables (both male and female) at the Dehradun Police Headquarters.

6 June 2013: Domestic violence and gender sensitisation workshop on Cyber Crime at the Economic Office Wing office, New Delhi for approximately 50 officers.

12-14 June 2013: Workshop on domestic violence with approximately 350 Special Frontier Force personnel and their families in Chakrata.

Established an legal counselling center near Nehru Ekta Camp, a slum in R.K. Puram. Since its establishment, 37 cases of domestic violence have been counselled so far.

Upcoming efforts: ●

Presentations at local schools raising awareness about violence and the Count on Me Campaign.

Spreading awareness about domestic violence through workshops for the uniformed services nationwide.

Launching of Maitri’s Domestic Violence helpline to provide counsel and legal support.

Project Objective:

Welfare, HIV/AIDS and TB education and Citizenship Rights awareness for rickshaw pullers of Delhi.

Key accomplishments: ●

Registered/contacted a total of 2811 migrants and rickshaw-pullers for project services such as sessions, mid-media activities, counselling, etc.

Conducted 1146 group sessions

Helped establish 60 non-traditional condom outlets in project areas

Organized health camps and project clinics for 1348 migrants

178 migrants tested for HIV/AIDS at ICTC

Among these, 1 Migrant was found HIV positive and was referred to the ART

9 Stakeholder meetings conducted

Upcoming Efforts: 

1250 new registrations of migrant workers per month.

Conduct 125 HIV tests per month.

Have a minimum of 750 participants per months in Health Camps.

Project Description:

Capacity Building Program for Women and Children

Key accomplishments: ●

2 June, 2013: Maitri started a Children’s Tutorial Center in Nehru Ekta Camp.

19 June, 2013: Students of the Children’s Tutorial Center in Anant Ram Dairy Complex participated in a show called “Little Stars of Maitri”, organized by a volunteer. The children performed poetry, dance, and songs.

1. Children’s Tutorial Center - 15th August Independence Day Celebration.

INTEGRATED COUNSELLING AND TESTING CENTER (ICTC)

Project Objective:

HIV Testing and awareness

Key accomplishments: 

Conducted a total of 575 HIV/AIDS tests

Out of these 575 tests, 9 persons were found HIV positive

Upcoming Efforts:  

Launch free HIV testing and counselling in slums in and around Delhi Cantt region. 350 HIV tests a month.

HOMELESS RESOURCE CENTRE

Project Objective

Homeless Resource Center working with Rickshaw Pullers and Homeless

Key accomplishments last period: ●

Started enrolment for Universal ID (UID) cards for homeless people in Central Delhi. A total of 290 persons have been enrolled so far.

Conducted a total of 44 food monitoring visits to government-run Jan Ahaar Yojana centers that offer nutritious meals for a minimal sum of Rs 15.

Organized a total of 19 health camps which had a total of 1698 participants.

Distributed 85 beghar cards to homeless persons.

Enrolled 224 homeless persons for opening zero-balance bank accounts and 287 persons for voter cards.

Conducted several community meetings to raise awareness and promote livelihood. A total of 2438 people attended these meetings.

Providing basic literacy classes for 32 adults through Rani Jhansi, New Hope Adult classes.

Continued providing non-formal education to 112 children at Punjabi Academy.

Upcoming efforts: 

Aadhar Card enrolment during the months of July and August for the homeless in Central and New Delhi.

Jewellery making vocational training for women of Dev Nagar Khandar.

Project Objectives:

Facilitating Citizenship Rights for Migrant Workers in Ranchi, Jharkhand

Key accomplishments:  Completed enrolment of 1000 rickshaw pullers for Universal Identification (UID) cards.  The feasibility study questionnaires were filled, tabulated, analyzed.  Prepared and submitted the final report of the feasibility study on 1000 rickshaw pullers  Organized a health camp every month for Rickshaw Pullers.

Upcoming Efforts:  Two health camps every month for the Rickshaw Pullers.  Promotion and facilitation of identities (different identity cards) to promote citizenship right among Rickshaw Pullers.  Garage based awareness programme for Aadhar Card in collaboration with UIDAI.  Exploring possibilities of Bank linkages and loans to buy individual rickshaw.
