ZB QUARTERLY | SPRING 2020

LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

Message from Sheriff John D. Idleburg Residents of Zion-Benton, I hope all of you enjoyed the Holiday Season filled with joy and the company of loved ones. I wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year. As we head into 2020, I want to highlight some of our accomplishments in the last year. In 2019, the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Group (SIG) seized drugs with a street value of over one million dollars. The success of SIG is due to its expansion, interagency collaboration with our law enforcement partners, and targeted approach to drug, human, and sex trafficking. Additionally, we are making progress in creating efficiencies, upgrading our IT infrastructure, and increasing our community partnerships. This past Holiday Season we held our annual ‘Shop with a Sheriff’ where we hosted over 88 children and their families for pictures with Santa and some Holiday shopping. Here is some important information for your consideration: Recreational Cannabis: While recreational cannabis is now legal in Illinois, I wish to remind all residents that you may still not consume cannabis in public. Do not drive under the influence. If you transport cannabis, it must be sealed in its original packaging from an approved dispensary. Transporting cannabis in an open container or in packaging with broken seals is not allowed. Scholarship Information: In partnership with the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association, my office will be awarding (2) $500 scholarships to individuals who are permanent residents of Illinois and Lake County, and enrolled full time for the 2020-2021 school year in an institution of higher learning within the State of Illinois. Applications are now available at the Lake County Sheriff’s Office or on the ISA Website www.ilsheriff.org. Students must complete the application; answer the essay question and return all documentation to the Sheriff’s Office in their permanent county of residence by March 15, 2020 (must be postmarked by this date). If you have a question or concern, please feel free to send an email to Sheriff@lakecountyil.gov. Respectfully, Sheriff John D. Idleburg
