ATHLETIC DIRECTOR THE WARRIOR FOOTBALL TEAM IS COMING OFF A 9-2 CAMPAIGN AND WERE COCHAMPIONS OF THE ALWAYS TOUGH METRO LEAGUE. It was a testament to a talented group of players and coaches that continue to build a family atmosphere.Aloha Football continues to subscribe to teaching life skills through athletics. I have confidence that our coaches will continue to persevere through these uncertain times. The Warriors will have Bill Volk at the helm as he begins his 8th year as our Head Football Coach. The program continues to grow and build young men into positive members of our community. Character building will be an intregal part of the culture for the Warriors. The Warriors have adopted a F.A.M.I.L.Y. approach within the program. The core values being taught help the players, coaches and the community to embrace the importance of high school sports. We are all looking forward to football in March and April.

GO WARRIORS!

HEAD COACH >>A MESSAGE FROM THE FOOTBALL

Each member of the Aloha Warrior Football program is held accountable to higher standards on the field, in the classroom, and within our community. Football is a very time consuming and demanding sport that requires an enriched passion and devotion by both the player and his family.

Members of the Aloha Warrior Football program believe in being a F.A.M.I.L.Y. with R.O.L.E.S (Fun, Attitude, Men of Character, Integrity, Love, You; Respect, Ownership, Legacy, Empathy, Servanthood). FAMILY is the backbone of our program. The intangibles that we teach derive from this very word “FAMILY” (holding us all together, while demanding more from one another). Our Mission statement has been set in order to utilize this motto in everything we do so that we may commit to do our best, every day. We use the game of football as a vehicle to teach life skills to our student-athletes by cultivating young men to become contributing members of our society. Our goal is to develop the core values of citizen, student, and athlete. As your head coach, I ask for your support during the coming season. I promise to provide a structural transparency within the program. Distractions that prevent such clarity hinder the success of our team. This simplicity is geared to producing a superior and more prepared player, team, and community. I am committed to Aloha Warrior Football, and I thank you in advance for doing your very best to make this football season a positive team experience. Sincerely,

Bill Volk

Keep your head up and your eyes on the ball carrier at all times. Determine the proper angle of pursuit. This depends on the distance between you and the ball carrier and the speed of the ball carrier. If the ball carrier is particularly fast, take a wide angle of pursuit that will allow you to stay between him and your end zone. Close the distance between yourself and the ball carrier. Do not over pursue and allow the ball carrier to run by you.

Break your stance down before contact by bending your knees, getting your hips down, and getting your hands back. Keep good balance by making sure your feet are shoulder width apart or slightly more. Lean your upper body slightly forward. This will allow you to lead with your inside shoulder when making contact. Keep your head up and your back straight. This position is more balanced and safer. You DO NOT want to lead with your head down, it is extremely dangerous for both you and the ball carrier. Be sure to keep your feet moving. You do not want to lose your momentum when breaking down your stance.

When the ball carrier is within your reach, push off with your feet as hard as you can and use your legs to drive through the ball carrier’s body. Drive your lead shoulder into the ball carrier’s hips. As your shoulder pads connect with the ball carrier, wrap him up with your arms just under his butt. This allows you to not only knock him over, but pull his legs out from under him when you extend through him, resulting in a lower chance of your tackle being broken. Get your head ACROSS the ball carrier’s body and in his path. If the ball carrier is going to your left, when you make the tackle he should be on the right side of your head. The opposite is true if he’s running to your right. This will make him less likely to fall forward for an extra yard or so. This can make a huge difference on second, third and fourth downs. You will also be able to better hold the ball carrier next to you, making it harder for him to break the tackle. Again, keep your head up through this step to make sure you are not leading with your helmet. Keep pushing and driving with your feet until the ball carrier goes down. Pick your knees up high in the driving motion. Don’t stop until the ball carrier is on the ground.
