WELCOME HOGGARD VIKING FANS

TO THE 2021 FALL SPORTS SEASON>>> We are very excited to welcome our fans back out for another season of Hoggard Athletics. In a year unlike any we have ever faced before, our student athletes and coaches have worked tirelessly to make this season possible. We cannot thank our parents and guardians enough for their support in making athletics in a time of COVID possible. We have worked to bring a semblance of normalcy for our students, and to do so in a safe and healthy manner. This could not have been done without the sacrifices and accommodations of all our stakeholders. This year we have nearly 800 athletes involved in our various programs. These students have sacrificed their time and energy to be a part of what we feel is one of the best high school athletic programs in the state of North Carolina. Last year we again won our conferences Wells Fargo cup, winning five conference titles within the thirteen sport seasons that were able to be completed. We were among the top ten in the final rankings for the state’s Wells Fargo cup standings. This finish was due to outstanding seasons by several of our teams, and a state championship by our Women’s Cross Country team. We would like to thank our athletic booster club, student body, alumni, and community sponsors for their support of Hoggard and our athletic programs. This support is a critical portion of what makes our success possible and we could not accomplish all we do without it. Thank you for being at the game tonight and supporting us throughout the season. Enjoy the accomplishments of the players and coaches, and respect the efforts of the game officials. Your presence this evening lets them know how valuable their participation is. We do ask that you abide by all New Hanover County Schools policies while on campus. This includes; no animals on campus and no smoking, including electronic cigarettes. At no time should any fan approach or communicate with game officials. Please play a role in the success of the game, match, or meet by being a positive and supportive fan and showing everyone what a fantastic place Hoggard High School is!

GO VIKINGS!

HEAD COACH >>A MESSAGE FROM THE WOMENS LACROSSE

WE GRADUATED 9 SENIORS LAST SEASON THAT GOT THEIR SEASON CUT SHORT. This year we are working diligently to use the experience from last season to understand the importance of just getting to play and develop as individuals and as a team. It has been exciting to see new players come up, step up and take on roles and responsibilities to push and challenge the team. We are learning the value of what hard work brings while continuing to be held to high expectations of level of play. This team brings back 4 seniors, all in varying roles, 3 juniors and the rest underclassmen. Each day, we are growing to be a different team than the day before.

HEAD COACH >>A MESSAGE FROM THE MENS LACROSSE

WELCOME TO THE 2021 HOGGARD MEN’S LACROSSE SEASON. Our team is ready for another exciting season on the field! The players have invested time, energy and effort so they could achieve their goal of representing the school. As a new season begins, a team never knows where the journey will take them but this team is looking forward to creating memories and bonds that last a lifetime. To those who have supported us in the past and to those who are supporting us now, to our sponsors, our community, our administration, our families and friends, we say THANK YOU!

Steve Tremen Steve Tremen >> VARSITY HEAD COACH Coach Treman, referred to as “Doc” by lacrosse players and the lacrosse community, graduated from Wittenberg University in 1983 where he played Midfield for the Tigers and was captain during his senior year. He graduated from SUNY at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 1987 and married his wife Amy Remaley that same year. He moved from Hamburg, NY to Wilmington, NC in 1989. Steven and Amy have two children, Kyle and Jennifer, both of whom graduated from Hoggard High School. One of his favorite times as coach was when both of his children were involved in the Lacrosse Program in 2007. He was an assistant coach for Hoggard High School from 2000 – 2006, and the Head lacrosse coach since 2007. The Hoggard Varsity Team has won the conference for the past twelve years and has seen several of its players go on to play in college lacrosse programs. Watching the sport growth in our area and to be part of its success has been a proud moment. He loves animals; his dogs Moe and Brody are a big part of his non lacrosse life.

HEAD COACH >>A MESSAGE FROM THE MENS SOCCER

It is truly an honor to be a Coach at John T. Hoggard HS. Every year since I started coaching at Hoggard I have always been inspired by the young men I am able to coach. Year 1 to Year 4, every team has been dedicated not just to playing the game but the players have been dedicated to each other and the goals of the program. Our aim has always been to not just be a high school soccer team but to be positive leaders in our school and the community. I am very proud of the effort the players put in on the pitch as well as in the classroom and in the community. They are willing to volunteer outside of the school to support other programs in our community. Though some of this has been limited this year due to COVID restrictions. The heart of the players to reach out to support others is one of the best qualities of this year's 2020-21 team. In our first team meeting the seniors spoke to the 9th, 10th & 11th Grade JV & Varsity players and shared these important words: "WE ARE HERE FOR YOU and WE ARE A BROTHERHOOD". When I heard that being said by the senior class to the freshman class I knew the team had arrived at the maturity level of young leaders that truly care. Seems like a very small statement but in a time where being united and thinking of others more than oneself can easily be overlooked. I am inspired by this Senior class of leaders, (Tyler Powel, Caleb Woodard, Giuseppe Marturano, Luke Carlin, Brooks Carpenter, Justin Pfiefer, Ben Moore and Aidan Sokolinsky) for choosing to be extremely supportive and caring of all their teammates. Their leadership has been extended beyond the soccer field and they are truly positively leaders to this team and at Hoggard HS. If you asked these seniors what makes you care so much for the team, I believe they would say, "the Seniors before me did the same for me". I am excited to see where this leadership will take our program. On the behalf of all the Vikings Men's Soccer Coaches, we would like to thank our School Leadership; our Parents; our Parent Booster Leaders and our Business community that continually support our players. The leadership provided by all gives our players the opportunity to partake in an activity we all love and enjoy. We look forward to seeing you all out at the games during our very short season. Respectfully,

Coach Dwight Dwight Findlay >> VARSITY HEAD COACH Coach Findlay received his MBA Degree from Averett University. He left his home country of Trinidad & Tobago to attend Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, WV on a soccer scholarship where he played soccer for 4 years and was named 1994-1995 Academic Athlete of the Year. Before leaving Trinidad & Tobago he played soccer at the First Division level for TRINTOC. Coach Findlay is a member of the United Soccer Coaches Association, he holds a USSF National Youth License; NCYSA Youth II Certificate; Regional and National Diplomas; USC Futsal Level 1 Diploma; USC Goalkeeping Level 1 Diploma and the UEFA III Part 1 Certificate. He has coached at the following nationally recognized programs, Next Level Academy, CEDA Academy, Capital Area Soccer League (CASL) now (NCFC), and the Wilmington Hammerheads Youth Club. Coach Findlay is also the founder of Superb Soccer a technical development soccer program with a strong focus on building character through the beautiful game of soccer. Coach Findlay is married to Kelly Findlay and he has three children; Isabella, Israel and Isaac.

We would also like to thank our Principal, Mary Paul Beall, and our Athletic Director, Brad Lewis, for their tremendous leadership throughout this process. Go Vikings!

>>HOGGARD HIGH SCHOOL

ALMA MATER O Hoggard High, to thee we sing: All hail the Vikings conquering. Love and kindness thou hast taught, Imparted knowledge that we sought. The Viking banner stands unfurled; We’ll take our places in this world. Within this land and everywhere, Hearts and minds will ne’er despair. From sand-swept coast to mountainside, We’ll raise thy laurels far and wide. And when we bid our last adieu, We’ll honor you, the white and blue. HOGGARDSPORTS.COM
