E FROM THE FOOTBALL

DEAR FOOTBALL PARENTS AND FANS, WELCOME TO THE 2020 FOOTBALL SEASON, THANK YOU FOR BEING AT THE GAME TONIGHT.

As I begin my 11th year coaching overall there is nowhere else I would rather be then right here as part of the Milford Family. I feel that the Milford community is truly a family and once you are part of the family you have a home where you are always welcomed. This especially holds true for our football family where we sweat and bleed together and create a bond that is truly special and lasts forever. We feel a great honor and responsibility that the parents of our athletes have chosen to be part of the Milford football family. We have set two goals for our athletes to accomplish first goal is to equip and teach each player to not only to be successful in the classroom and on the field but to teach them valuable lessons about character that will help them to be successful in whatever path they take in life. Second goal is for each player to know that we as coaches love and care for them regardless if they are a top player on the field. Thank you to my family for all the sacrifices you have made so that I am able to continue to give to Milford Football. Thank you to my fellow coaches and their families for all the hard work and support in making Milford special. Thank you to our current and former football players for giving your heart, soul and time to your teammates and coaches. Thank you to the parents who have supported our young men and our program for all these years. Thank you to the Milford administration Principal McKenna, Assistant Principal Mrs. Butler, Athletic Director Mr. Marszalek and Athletic Sectary Mrs. Alaska for all the support you guys give to all students and athletes. It is an honor for me to be at a school that works extremely hard in developing these young men to succeed in life after high school. I truly believe the lessons learned on the football field will carry over into these young men’s personal lives and make them successful men, fathers, husbands and professionals. Competing in a football game is only part of what we do. The main goal of what we do is preparing them for life after high school. Whether our players go onto play college ball or become a college student the coaches and myself will do all we can to push them to be successful in all aspects of life. Would also like to thank the great support we get from our student section, band, cheerleaders and pom team. Thanks for being the best crowd in the state of Michigan. Thank you again for attending tonight’s game and we hope to see you at every home game.

Steve Smetana >> FRESHMAN OL/DL Coach Smetanin is entering his first coaching year at Milford High School. He has been involved a variety of youth athletics since moving to Milford in 2003 -- including football, swimming, basketball, and baseball. A graduate of Purdue University (Boiler Up!) and University of Michigan, Coach Smetana has had a 20+ year Engineering career. He is looking forward to coaching so many players he has watched grow up over his years in Milford. Coach Smetana is supported by his wife Mary and his two Milford Maverick’s Gracie (11th) and Jake (9th).

Chris Roscoe >> FRESHMAN OL/DL Christopher (Chris) Roscoe recently graduated Milford high school in 2019. He played all four years of his high school at Milford and loved his coaches and fellow players. Roscoe as he likes to be called has been playing football since he was in 5th grade, always as a lineman. He originally was in Waterford playing for the Corsair’s, during the move from 5th grade to 6th he moved from Waterford to the Highland area and started playing with the Milford football team his 7th grade year. As his senior year came up through camps and training with coaches and other players he was confident in this season like no other, never before has football felt like it clicked as it did in the offseason before senior year. Unfortunately, during the first game against Mott high school he broke his ankle in two different places ending his high school career. After that devastating injury Roscoe had to support his team from the sideline. Roscoe then decided that college wasn’t for him and decided to work with and try to take over his father's business. He received an offer to help with Milfords junior league. During the 2020 season Roscoe will be helping out with the younger groups as an assistant lineman coach and he can’t be more proud of the group of boys he’s been allowed the privilege to train and coach.

Steve Gauthier >> STRENGTH & CONDITIONING Gauthier graduated from Adrian College in 2005 where he received a BA in Exercise Science, while attending Adrian he worked as an athletic trainer and played football for the bulldogs. He was honored in 2004 and named Team Captain; these opportunities to pursue his football career and passion of fitness with Adrian College was life changing. Once Graduating from Adrian College, he started my career in athletic performance training. In 2012, Coach Gauthier opened his first fitness facility, and in 2016 he opened STS Athletics, our performance training center. Developing an understanding between the science behind performance training and the practical use for athletes at their specific level is how STS attacks program design. Coach Gauthier's goal is to develop better plans/programs for the concept of “Bigger, Stronger, Faster”. Developing an athlete in these areas requires much more than strength, power & speed training. The combination of ROM and mobility for joints is often overlooked, however without this implication athletes reach plateaus and worse injuries occur. During the 2018-19 winter semester he had the opportunity to help teach the AP Performance Training class at MHS, we had great results with the athletes through implementing the plans/programs that we have designed. Currently Coach Gauthier is finishing his studies for the CSCS exam and plan to sit for the test this fall, as well studying to complete my Masters Degree by the end of 2021.
