WELCOME WKHS CAPTAIN FANS

TO THE 2020 FOOTBALL SEASON>>> Families, Guests, and Kettering Fans: As we welcome the return to another school year, and all the excitement that the fall sports season traditionally brings, I would be remiss if I did not share my tremendous pride in our football program. Our entire administrative team enjoys watching the players battle each week, demonstrating hard work and heart both on and off the field. The games are rich in heritage and tradition, from the award-winning marching band performances, to the cheerleaders, the dance team, and the Kettering Krazies united in spirit. Our beautiful stadium exudes energy and passion in each game. Our boosters are incredible, ensuring that our tunnel is ready, the atmosphere is set, and the concessions fill our bellies! Clearly, this year has presented new challenges for all of us. Whether you look through the lens of navigating a global pandemic; measure the social impact of protests and calls to action; balance the phase we are listed in and what is permitted; or calculate how remote or virtual learning will leave an impact on learning; one thing is clear: sports remain as a unifying means to celebrate, cheer, cry, collaborate, all one family with the same end in mind. We have missed sports and all that events offer to bring joy forward in so many ways. Though it may be different, we need the opportunity to find a release in a meaningful, enjoyable way. We extend our thanks to the many hands that help with the season, our families and friends, and those engaged in the activity that has become our time-honored treasure: Friday Night under the Lights! We are glad to have you join us, whether in person, or virtually, to cheer for the Captains, Green and White!

WITH CAPTAIN PRIDE,

Waterford Administrative Staff

>>A MESSAGE FROM THE DISTRICT

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR Waterford Kettering Captains, Families, and Fans,

Hard-work, commitment, perseverance, and teamwork play an important role in the success of our student-athletes in the classroom, on the field, in daily endeavors, and in their futures. We believe athletics is an extension of the classroom, and where our student-athletes are given additional opportunities to build character, develop problem-solving skills, and learn to handle adversity with poise. The success of our athletic department at Waterford Kettering is attributed to the dedication of our student-athletes, Captains’ families, parents, coaches, staff, and community members. Thank you to all who make this a life-changing, positive experience for our student-athletes. The positivity and support that all parties provide to Waterford Kettering High School sets the tone in our stands and will be admired by competitors and those attending our games. I look forward to the opportunity to work together with all stakeholders, to foster a supportive environment for all of our students.

BEST OF LUCK TO OUR CAPTAINS FOOTBALL PROGRAM THIS FALL! Thank you for your Captain Pride and continued support,

Allison Sartorius District Athletic Director

>>A MESSAGE FROM THE

SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS Dear Kettering Students and Community: As superintendent of Waterford School District, I am pleased to welcome you to the 2020 football season at Waterford Kettering High School. Following a summer of hard work and diligent practice, our student athletes are ready to hit the field and compete at a high level throughout the season. It takes the collaboration of many individuals to make an athletic program successful. Our sincere appreciation goes out to coaches, staff members, families and community members for your ongoing support. Each and every one of you has played an important part in molding the football program at Kettering High School into a positive and rewarding experience for our players. I would especially like to commend our student athletes for their commitment to excellence, both on and off the field. The pride in Waterford Kettering is evident in their enthusiasm and drive to represent their school to the best of their abilities. In the words of Vince Lombardi, “There is only one way to succeed in anything…and that is to give it everything.” Here’s looking forward to a successful 2020 season!

>>A MESSAGE FROM THE FOOTBALL

HEAD COACH Welcome to the 2020 season for Kettering Football!

The 2020 season has a lot of potential for success for our Captain Football Players. We are looking forward to an exciting season! We continue to work on enriching the lives of our players through competition, training, citizenship, and comradery. We believe in developing our student athletes on and off the field as they prepare for life after high school. Character development, leadership training, mental focus, academic enrichment, athletic growth, and a sense of community are the foundations of our program. High School programs have a lot of participants involved to help make things run smoothly and be successful. Kettering Football is lucky to have such wonderful and hardworking people within and around the program. With the continued support from our administration, boosters, volunteers, parents and fans, we’re looking forward to a great season. Thank you for all that you have done!

GO CAPTAINS!

Kenny Schmidt

Head Football Coach

Kenny Schmidt >> VARSITY HEAD COACH Coach Schmidt is beyond excited to help lead the Waterford Kettering football program this season. His earliest football memories are rooted in the Waterford area where he started as a water boy for the Captains in the early 90s. Now the head football coach, he’s looking forward to building lifelong bonds through a shared passion for football. With many great lessons learned from even greater coaches throughout his own career, he would like to pay it forward and inspire a new generation of student athletes on and off the field. With 13 years of coaching experience, Schmidt is entering his 4th season at Waterford Kettering High School. He spent his first four years coaching as an assistant for Waterford Mott's varsity team (’08-’11) where he focused on special teams and defense. Following his time at Mott, Schmidt was head football coach at Mason Middle School for the 7th grade team. Most recently, he was the defensive coordinator for Auburn Hills Avondale. Prior to coaching, Schmidt spent five years on the field as a tight end and long snapper for Wayne State University's football program. During his time as a Warrior, he was named to the GLIAC All-Academic team four times, selected to the National Football Foundation National Honor Society and earned WSU’s Special Teams MVP. He graduated from Wayne State with a degree in secondary education. He also graduated from Waterford Mott High School where he was All-State in football and track and field.
