WELCOME PATRIOT FANS

TO THE 2020 FALL SPORTS SEASON>>> As coaches, teachers and administrators, we feel very fortunate to work at a high school with supportive parents and wonderful studentathletes. As the Fall Sports 2020-2021 season begin, the Athletic Department looks forward to another successful year for all our programs. Part of the vision of Wheeling Park High School is to have all our students participate in an extracurricular program, as participation promotes the development of important life-skills. At these events, you will witness the talents of students who have chosen to represent Wheeling Park High School in an athletic endeavor. Their commitment and sacrifice to their school and teammates should be applauded. Your attendance at these activities indicates your commitment to our community, school and student-athletes. Positive support of our students, coaches, opponents and officials is a fitting example of our school values. Wheeling Park High School is blessed with many gifted student-athletes and coaches. HEAD COACH >>A MESSAGE FROM THE FOOTBALL

Welcome to the 2020 football season. There has been a lot of hard work put in to the preseason by our student athletes. We feel we have a dedicated group of young men. As always, we have a very demanding AAA schedule in front of us, but Wheeling Park Football is more than just football. Our main goal, as it has always been, is to create better young men and to create a family environment. Our motto stays the same, TWBAI: Team Wins Brotherhood All In! In closing, we would like to thank the administration, teachers, staff, maintenance, and custodial crew of Ohio County Schools, parents, and community for ongoing time and energy in supporting our program.

GO PATRIOTS!

HEAD COACH >>A MESSAGE FROM THE CROSS COUNTRY

Welcome to the 2020 Cross Country season! This has been a very unsettled, to put it mildly, time and we are excited for the normalcy of the season. The runners have worked very hard all summer long to insure that they will have success. The great thing about this sport is that success has many different definitions; for some it will be breaking a certain time in a race, for others it will be setting a new PR, for others making varsity and for some it will be state-level accomplishment. As a team we work every day to make sure that all athletes have the opportunity to accomplish their goals.

We will run a challenging schedule against quality competition. Week in and week out we will test ourselves against the best the state has to offer. Through the hard work, dedication and discipline that it requires to be competitive at that level our hope is that the student-athletes will learn traits and behaviors that translate to success in much more important things than a race. We would like to thank the Ohio County Board of Education, the administration and staff of WPHS, the Wheeling Park Boosters, sponsors of our program and, most importantly, our parents for all of the help and support that they have given us, not just this season but in all seasons. We truly appreciate all that is done for us! We wish all the fall sports the best of luck and all students, staff and administration a great school year!

GO PARK!

Jacob Galik

Cross Country Head Coach

Jacob Galik >> VARSITY HEAD COACH Jacob Galik is entering his ninth season as the boys' coach and seventh as the girls'. In that time he has had three teams qualify for the state meet (boys 2016, and girls 2016, 2017) and had seven runners qualify as individuals in years that the team did not make it to Ona. Prior to becoming the head cross country coach Galik was the middle school cross country coach for four years and served on the girls basketball coaching staff for nine seasons. Coach Galik grew up in Morgantown, where he attended Morgantown High. He went to WVU and earned degrees in History and English. For a five year period he was employed in the pharmaceutical industry and then decided to become a teacher. He earned his degree in secondary education with specializations in Language Arts and Social Studies from West Liberty State College. For one year he taught language arts at Warwood and Triadelphia middle schools and then moved on to the high school where he currently teaches 1914-1945 (an elective about the rise and fall of Nazi Germany with a focus on the Holocaust), AP Human Geography, and Contemporary US History. Over the course of his teaching career he has created and led the Washington DC trip and been the coach of five teams that won state Geography Bowl championships. In 2009 he earned his master's degree in Educational Leadership from WVU. Coach Galik resides in Wheeling with his wife, Robin and newborn son John.

Welcome to the 2020-2021 Wheeling Park cheer season. Our season is the longest running season of any Patriot sport. We start in August and finish in March. We typically practice 5-6 days a week and cheer for the football team and into the boys and girls basketball season. We start our season with the hopes of advancing to the state cheer tournament in December. We compete our routine consisting of stunts, tumbling, cheer and dance at regionals in November. We finish our competitive season with OVAC, which is a non-stunt competition. Our athletes work really hard on and off season which has helped us earn 4 WV state titles, several regional titles and 22 OVAC titles. We are looking forward to this season. I would like to thank the administration, parents and the athletes for all their support and hard work.
