GoggleWorks Center for the Arts GoggleWorks is a place to develop skills, ask questions, experiment freely, and investigate the human spirit. Here we create a dialogue between the established and the experimental; the contemporary and traditional. Through exceptional arts education and engaging community programming, we inspire people to expand the boundaries of art making, personal growth, and appreciation for material culture. Friends, family, and loved ones can enjoy a creative night out and make something together. These two-hour workshops offered on Friday evenings include demos, studio tour, and refreshments. Check out our special Valentine’s Day series in the month of February.

One-day weekend workshops designed for aspiring artists (ages 7-12) and their families to learn something new together. Adult participation is required; each registration covers one individual and all attendees must pre-register.

Project-based weekend workshops designed for you to learn a new craft and enrich the home with a functional, handmade object to keep or give as a gift. New this term, you’ll find a few workshops presented with local partners that we love.

Spotlight Nights

Mud to Moon: The shared musings of Peter Kinney and Jeff Waring Cohen Gallery East through Feb. 18

FRIDAY Jan. 12 5:30-7:30pm

Jeff Waring graduated with a B.F.A. in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design in 1985. Waring lives in Media, PA, where he continues to live and create, drawing inspiration from natural processes, earth cultures, improvisational music, outsider art, and children’s art. Peter Kinney earned his Ph.D. in Art History from New York University in 1974. He worked as an art educator and was an integral member in Highwire, the first Philadelphia artist cooperative. “Mudman” Kinney began using the earth itself as a painting medium in 1997. He collected interesting and colorful earth on his travels, until his untimely death in September of 2017.

False Amanda Lee Watkins Cohen Gallery West through Feb. 18 Amanda Lee Watkins was born in Reading, PA in 1991. She attended Temple University in Philadelphia, PA and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Art History in 2014. She finds inspiration in children’s books, including Edward Gorey. She currently resides in Williamsport, PA and works as an illustrator for a small publishing company located in San Jose, CA.

Our ceramic artist-instructor will walk you through the basics of throwing on the wheel. Create a unique piece of pottery, then choose a glaze from our Ceramic Studio’s selection. Bring a change of clothes or wear something you don’t mind getting dirty. $45 per person

Our Mini-Maker! Family Workshops are designed for aspiring artists, ages 7-12, and their families to learn something new together. No experience necessary; all materials and tools provided. MEET VISITING ARTIST DELANEY DEMOTT Delaney DeMott is an artist/educator living in Lenhartsville, PA. She received her B.F.A. with certificate to teach from Tyler School of Art, Temple University and her M.F.A. in Fiber and Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is currently an Assistant Adjunct Professor at Tyler School of Art, Temple University, in Philadelphia.

MEET VISITING ARTIST CHRISTOPHER DARWAY Christopher Darway has been working as a designer, teacher, and artisan in metals for over 40 years, earning his B.F.A. in craft design from Philadelphia College of Art. Over the years, he has sold his work through galleries, shops, and craft shows, including ACC and Smithsonian. His work has been exhibited in Germany, Japan, and England. He is a two-time recipient of the New Jersey State Council of the Arts Award, a senior PMC instructor for Rio Grande, former president of the Pennsylvania Society of Goldsmiths, and writer for Art Jewelry Magazine. He currently teaches at the Wayne Art Center and for the University of the Arts, Continuing Education Program.

PRECIOUS METAL CLAY with Chris Darway Saturday & Sunday Feb. 3 & Feb. 4 10am-5pm Aura 22, a paint-on 22 karat gold paste-like solution, was developed to be used on fine silver metal clay as an alternative/supplement to Keum-Bo. In this two-day workshop, learn how to apply Aura 22 to precious metal clay including copper, fine silver, and sterling silver using the torch method. Learn about both ceramic tile-making and the screen printing process in this crossdisciplinary workshop. Create your own screen using an image or design of your choice, then use it to transfer ceramic underglaze onto a set of clay tiles, perfect for decoration or coasters.

A continuation of “Welding Basics,”this two-day workshop further explores form, concepts, and tools used by metal artist, including the plasma torch, MIG welder, and a number of hand and power tools.

Continue developing your metalsmithing skills while exploring intermediate and advanced design concepts and techniques in fabrication, soldering, precious metals, and stone setting. In addition, enameling and experimental media will be covered. Prerequisite: Metalsmithing I or equivalent experience

Welding isn’t as intimidating as you might think. Learn the basic principles of MIG welding, a process in which an electric arc forms between a wire electrode and two pieces of metal, causing them to melt and join together. At conclusion of the workshop, leave with a miniature metal sculpture.

Learn throwing techniques with stoneware clays for both the beginning and advanced student. In the event that a student must withdraw their registration from a class or workshop, GoggleWorks will issue a full refund of tuition fees if the cancellation is made at least 10 days prior to the start of the class or workshop.

REFUNDS

CANCELLATIONS Cancellations due to low enrollment: GoggleWorks makes every effort to ensure that our classes and workshops run as scheduled. That said, our classes and workshops must meet minimum required enrollment to run. In the event that a class or workshop is cancelled due to low enrollment, previously registered students will be given the option to transfer to a running class or workshop of equivalent value, or be issued a full refund within 10 days. Cancellations due to inclement weather: In the event that a class or workshop is cancelled due to inclement weather, GoggleWorks will reschedule a make up date.

PHOTOGRAPHY GoggleWorks may take photographs and/or video during classes and workshops to market and promote GoggleWorks and its programs. These photographs and/or videos may appear online and in print materials. Prior to any photographs and/or video being taken, students will be given a permission waiver to sign or deny.
