Welcome!
Welcome to the ninth annual Arts Festival Reading and Holiday Market at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, and the second year of the event being held in December. In 2019 we embraced the festival’s natural evolution into a Holiday Market and welcomed many new visitors through our doors. This past year has highlighted the numerous ways that we can do even more to serve our community and make Reading a more vibrant and equitable place to create, learn, grow, or visit. With that in mind we are once again evolving the Arts Festival Reading & Holiday Market by waiving admission fees. This “Free for All” initiative is made possible in part through a new grant program by the Berks County Community Foundation. Arts Festival Reading & Holiday Market had previously remained one of the only exceptions to GoggleWorks’ year-round, admission-free model. Our staff and festival committee acknowledged the reasons for this in years past, but decided that making this event free to the public was deeply connected to its original mission and approach to community art. Arts Festival Reading is proud to offer all of the aspects that previous attendees have come to love, and now share these with anyone who wants to attend, regardless of their means. Visitors can expect to enjoy juried artist vendors and GoggleWorks studio artists, craft demos and musical acts, hands-on ornament workshops in hot and warm glass, and the aptly-named
New Store at GoggleWorks, featuring handmade art and gifts with a particular focus on regional artists and those within the GoggleWork community. I offer my sincere gratitude to the Arts Festival Reading committee, and Chair Melodie Burkey in particular, for showcasing our mission with this premier event. I also thank the Board, including Chair Tod Auman, and the Arts Festival Reading sponsors and donors. I am indebted to the venerable GoggleWorks staff, including new members too numerous to count. It’s an exciting time to see our organizational culture take a new form with fresh energy. Thanks finally to all of our attendees. I hope you find artwork that you will continue to cherish, artists you will continue to support, and the experience that will continue to remind you that art can transform lives, spur revitalization, and cultivate creativity. I urge you to become a member, donor, volunteer, and frequent visitor. And for the new year, make things. For a change. Levi Landis, Executive Director
