Welcome to GoggleWorks Center for the Arts’ autumn 2020 class offerings! We know. It’s strange. We miss seeing you in the studios, too. We are excited to get back to making, a little nervous about trying new things, and keeping everyone’s safety as our top priority. We thank all of you who have viewed, clicked, sent pictures, and shared your creativity from home. It’s been great to see people making art in their time away. We have really enjoyed seeing those of you in person who have booked a tour, or a movie, or shopped in the store since reopening. We will keep offering these experiences this fall and hope to see more of you. From these early successes in pandemic programming, we are hoping to grow things gradually this fall and see where each new day lands. Today we are bringing you a selection of experiences for September. We hope to bring you October and November soon, and if things go well, we would love to have expanded offerings in December. Only time will tell. To meet people at their comfort levels we have created three distinct kinds of programming this fall. Online Classes are scheduled online class times facilitated by an instructor on Zoom or Google Meet. Classes will focus on skills-based activities with little to no specialized equipment necessary. Creative Carryout are online videos produced by GoggleWorks that walk you through each step of a making process. Students choose the date and time to pick up their materials kit at GoggleWorks, which includes everything you’ll need. Students are given access to the lesson online and complete the project from the convenience of their own home. On-site Classes are likely the most familiar format for those who have attended GoggleWorks classes before, but even these experiences will be a bit different than in the past. Classes will have a maximum of 4 or 5 students, depending on class space. All students will be required to have their temperature checked upon entering the building; students exhibiting symptoms will not be allowed to participate in class. Face coverings and social distancing are required at all times. We will continue to learn from these new styles and explore exciting new opportunities for engaging our community going forward. We want to thank our teachers who have evolved in so many ways to get to this point, the staff who have implemented new studio procedures to make safe learning possible, and you for bringing your passion and curiosity to the arts in this time when a creative escape is so badly needed. We look forward to seeing you around the studio again soon. Be well, Tim Compton Artistic Director

Now is a critial time to support the arts Let me lead with this: artists are struggling. Like the restaurant, entertainment, and hospitality industries, the art sector has been devastated by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The impact is vast, threatening the mission and existence of even the largest art institutions. Unlike those large institutions, community art centers like GoggleWorks don’t have large corporate sponsors, endowments, or reserves to aid our artists and partners. It has been six months since GoggleWorks Center for the Arts had to close its doors for the pandemic. Although we reopened and are continuing to transform the lives of artists and audiences we serve, there are so many that are still suffering. The artists in our community continue to make work, but they are challenged by unstable markets, closed communal studios, and economic injury. Our arts partners are pushing through restrictions which, in many cases, have shuttered their organizations and businesses. Here at GoggleWorks, leaders and staff are digging in so that we might increase our impact in the face of the pandemic, avoid taking on debt, and support staff artists and administrators. This month marks our 15th anniversary; yet, instead of our planned milestone celebration event, we strive humbly to serve our community despite so many challenges. In the coming weeks we will be announcing details for an Arts Emergency Fund for our creative community. Rather than our typical annual appeal for support, this year we hope to raise $50,000 toward this fund. We will be pushing back all of our memberships for six months, too. We hope you will consider supporting the Arts Emergency Fund between when we announce the details in October and the end of the year. Artists and art programs enrich our lives and catalyze meaningful change in our community. Art, beauty, creativity, education, and outreach are essential for those we serve. Our artists and partners, too often neglected in our mentions of those impacted by economic injury, are struggling as they serve vulnerable audiences and advance hope through these troubled times. Let’s change that. Sincerely, Levi Landis Executive Director

On-Site Safety Measures

GoggleWorks has remained open for artists and partners who wish to access their studios at their own risk. Now that we will be implementing a planned, controlled public opening on July 8th GoggleWorks is taking increased measures in accordance with CDC recommendations. To provide the safest experience possible for our customers, we will require the following expectations: 1. Face coverings are required at all times. Visitors will be able to remove their face covering while seated for a movie, but must replace the face covering before getting up to leave their seat. 2. Temperatures will be checked upon entering the building and/or studio. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher will be asked to leave. 3. Wash your hands frequently and for the prescribed length. When you are unable to wash your hands, please use our new hand sanitizer stations throughout the main building and out buildings to promote clean hands. 4. Please do not arrive early or leave late. Those that arrive early will be asked to wait outside in their car. No additional guests beyond those registered are permitted inside the building. 5. Credit card payments are preferred at this time to limit the exchange of cash. 6. A heightened cleaning schedule will occur throughout the day facilitated by our cleaning staff. 7. Additionally, high traffic spaces and touch points will be cleaned between groups by GoggleWorks staff. 8. Maintain social distancing. Stay healthy. And stay home when sick. We are cautiously optimistic about reopening, but eager to begin our 15th anniversary this fall. The arts are so vital to our lives and GoggleWorks is a hub for the impressive work bringing beauty, collaboration, hope, and healing to our community. We look forward to continuing this work safely alongside you.
