201 Washington Street, Reading, PA 19601 OPEN HOURS: Sunday - Saturday, 9am-9pm

When engaging in the community we often have people step back and say, “I’m not an artist,” but that’s great, your career doesn’t have to be as a full time professional artist to enjoy GoggleWorks. When trying to help people understand the opportunities available to them, I like to ask people to think about something you created that you are really proud of. It might be a cake or a song, a plant, or maybe a piece of art, but you are proud of it because it was uniquely yours. You put in the effort, the attention, and love that it needed to succeed. Now, that piece you are thinking of probably wasn’t made yesterday, you might not have even made it a month ago. These impactful events stick with us for a long time because they shape who we are. These are the transformative creative experiences we seek to foster at GoggleWorks. The learning and growth that happens in a caring community when you take a class and say “yes” can create your next memorable experience. It certainly did for Maileysha who shared about her experience, “GoggleWorks has a special place in my heart. It was really the first time I was able to have a great experience doing a class ever in my life. It’s a place where I can be myself. Not even that, now that I think about it. I can actually be my true self when I am there. No one is judgeful there, oh, and it also has accessibility options. That’s right, it’s accessible for those in need of wheelchairs or who can’t walk the best. See what I mean, it has basically everything that you would like to have in such an Amazing Center.”

3. In person at our information desk

Welcome to the newest batch of creative class offerings at GoggleWorks, where we work to create opportunities for you to continue your journey of self expression, self discovery, and creative exploration. In curating these classes each term, we seek input and feedback from you to ensure that we are opening new doors that appeal to your personal journey. Our hope is that you can find the time to celebrate yourself and your abilities. It’s a busy, daunting world out there right now, and if you don’t set aside some time to discover yourself, it could get the better of you. Lean into your passions and find your next opportunity to make something uniquely yours.

From working with clay or building with wood, pulling a print, or filing metal, there is an opportunity for you to apply your attention, effort, and love to make your next memorable experience at GoggleWorks this fall. If it’s not in this catalog, reach out to us. We want to help you find that perfect opportunity, but we only have so many pages we can print. Your curiosity and interest are the most important pieces to making it happen. Maileysha said it best when she shared what GoggleWorks means to her, “I can’t even explain how much this place means to me. I can honestly go on forever about it if I had the chance, but, at the end of the day... This is the place. This is THE place, full of many opportunities, entertainment, events, activities, etc. This is the place to see, the place to visit, the place to experience.”

HUFF’S SPIRAL SPROUT BOX with Larissa Huff Larissa has been a furniture-maker and woodworking instructor for ten years. She started her professional life as a middle school math teacher in Florida before relocating to Philadelphia and accepting a woodworking apprenticeship that changed the course of her career. She designed and built custom furniture, taught woodworking classes, and was part-owner at Lohr Woodworking for nine years. She now creates work in her own studio in Philadelphia and works at the Wharton Esherick Museum. She specializes in furniture-making but loves to create any fun and functional wooden objects. She builds her furniture from Pennsylvania hardwoods with traditional joinery and techniques but enjoys incorporating at least one element of special intrigue into each piece. Most recently that has been secret drawers, tambour doors, or hot pipe bent details. She has written several articles published in magazines including Fine Woodworking Magazine and Woodcraft Magazine. She has also been profiled in Furniture & Cabinetmaking Magazine and was a guest on Shop Talk Live Podcast. She recently completed a residency at Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts and has been accepted as a fellow at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in the fall. You can most often find Larissa making jigs and sawdust in her shop, designing classes to teach at craft schools around the country, or slowly eating her way around all the restaurants in Philadelphia.
