VISITING ARTIST LECTURE & WORKSHOPS

ABOUT ALYSSABETH ARCHAMBAULT AlyssaBeth Archambault has two passions: sign-painting and beekeeping. She runs Bee’s Knees Sign Co., a Los Angeles enterprise focusing on one-of-a-kind handmade commercial and personal signs, including storefronts, A-frames, chalkboards, and banners. Raised in Long Beach, California, AlyssaBeth graduated with an A.A. from the highly regarded Sign Graphics program of Los Angeles Trade Technical College—the only remaining sign-painting program of its kind. She has led several workshops on sign-painting in the L.A. area, and for many years has worked and played in the creative worlds of theater, music, and painting. Whether commercially or artistically, AlyssaBeth is dedicated to perpetuating hand-lettering and healthy honeybees while using the arts of sign-painting and beekeeping to build communities and inspire creativity. Sweet!

VISITING ARTIST TALK July 8, 5:30pm in Boscov Film Theatre free, open to the public 10

With so many issues shaking our world today, millions of people are speaking up for their beliefs at public demonstrations. This summer, AlyssaBeth and GoggleWorks will offer the opportunity, resources, and support to let your voice be heard through the design and production of an effective protest sign, banner, poster, or flag. Put your fire and creativity to work in this special lecture and workshop—tell the world what matters to you!

ART+ACTIVISM: PROTEST SIGNS with AlyssaBeth Archambault 1 day / Saturday, July 8 12:00-3:30 pm

lecture / 12:00-1:00 pm / free, open to the public

Topics covered will include how to share your message effectively, methods and materials for construction and display, and design strategies (for example, graphics versus no graphics). The lecture will conclude with a group critique of example signs.

workshop / 1:30-3:30 pm / registration required

There is no wrong way to make a protest sign, but we want yours to stand out! This workshop is open to all, regardless of artistic talent or political views. Bring your ideas, short slogans, words, and/or thumbnail sketches. No one will be turned away, but we do want to make this experience a very positive, empowering, and creative one for all attendees (including children), so please choose your words and images carefully. Don’t have a protest to attend, but still want to participate? Make one for your lawn, donate it to a cause, or contribute it to an upcoming event.
