Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, GoggleWorks Center for the Arts consists of a 145,000 square foot, five-story community arts center in what was formerly the Willson Goggle Factory Building. GoggleWorks features six large teaching studios in ceramics, hot and warm glass, jewelry, photography, and wood; 35 juried artists' studios, exhibition galleries, and houses the offices of over a dozen arts, culture, and creative economy organizations. The complex also includes a 131-seat theatre, which presents art house films daily, a café, and STORE, which retails the work of over 200 individual artists from around the country. NIGHT OUT AT GOGGLEWORKS FRIDAY: JUNE 17 | JULY 29 | AUGUST 26 6-8PM Grab your loved ones or friends and head to GoggleWorks for a creative Night Out! Currently offered the last Friday of every month, Night Outs are a great introduction to our most popular studios. Enjoy beer, wine, and light refreshments while trying your hand at something new! Work produced during Ceramics and Glass Night Outs require additional time to be properly dried, fired, and cooled; therefore it is not immediately available to take home. Participants will be called within two weeks when ready. No prior experience necessary and all materials and tools will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothing or bring a change of clothes—you may get a bit dirty! Pre-registration is required.

Explore acrylic painting after a short instructor-led demonstration. Unlike traditional painting parties, participants will be given an outline, then choose a unique palette, stencils, and stamping methods to create a personalized painting.

CERAMICS Our famously friendly ceramic instructors will walk you through the basics and then turn the wheel over to you. Create a unique piece of pottery, then choose a glaze from among our selection.

FUSED GLASS Pick a mold and your palette to create a colorful glass plate, platter, or bowl after a short demonstration. Please note: closed-toe shoes are required in the fusing studio.

HOT GLASS Get a hands-on experience in glassblowing by making a pint glass or stemless wine tumbler under the guidance of our Hot Shop manager. Please note: closed-toe shoes are required in the hot glass studio.

ALAN & LIBBIE SOFFER ALAN SOFFER Alan Soffer holds a B.A. and D.D.S. from Temple University. He has studied painting and sculpture at Parsons School of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Ringling School, and SUNY. Soffer exhibits nationally and is in many private collections. Most recently his works were acquired by the Eaton Corporation via Forms Gallery in Delray Beach, Florida and Linda Warren Projects, Chicago. alansofferart.com LIBBIE SOFFER Libbie Soffer's mixed media background began when she was a seven year old "seamstress." Leaving her career in dental hygiene, she studied textiles at Moore College of Art. She has been exhibiting in museums, galleries, and universities across the United States with recognition in mixed media. Her work identifies life's core issues while embracing experimental approaches in materials. Although the focus is abstract, representational work will be enhanced through a sequence of progressive exercises in mark-making, drawing, painting, and collage to build on skills. KEVIN GREELAND Kevin Greeland is a practicing artist and art educator living in Southern California. Kevin teaches a variety of classes in acrylic painting, bookmaking, and mixed media approaches to painting and sculpture. Kevin is a certified Working Artist for Golden Artist Colors, Inc. His studio, Art Haus, offers a wide selection of classes, workshops, and a professional lecture and demonstration series for Golden Artist Colors, Inc. Kevin holds an M.F. A. and a B.S. in Art Education. Kevin has taught art at Memphis College of Art and Vanderbilt University where he was also the Assistant Director of the Sarratt Studio Arts Program. He has taught art in public schools in Florida, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee as well as in various museum settings, such as Cheekwood Art Museum and Botanical Gardens, and The Frist Center for the Visual Arts. In the 2002-2003 school year he was recognized as an outstanding art educator with a Teacher of the Year Award from Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County Public Schools. Kevin was also the owner of Parkland Art Boutique & Gallery, originally located in Sarasota, Florida. Kevin was the recipient of a Hohenberg European Travel Fellowship and has participated in a number of residency programs, including a program at Wackers Academy in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The lecture covers information about the different types of acrylic paint formulations, pigments, and their related viscosities, as well as color theory and color reality, drying time, and health & safety. Learn how acrylics can be used as grounds for other media, such as watercolor and colored pencil or pastels and so much more. The lecture will also cover a technical review of acrylics and their varied application possibilities. Various acrylic products and techniques will be demonstrated to enrich your understanding of the medium. Among these you will learn basic tips for how to extend paint to save money and how to mix paints with gels and pastes to create exciting textures. We will be using High Flow Acrylics and Fluid Acrylics along with the traditional Heavy Body Acrylics to create our unique artwork. Through a series of fun and whimsical exercises along with a unique grid system every student will create a beautiful abstract painting and have lots of resource material. Come prepared to paint because that’s what this class is all about. If you are planning on doing collage bring the images and necessary papers. NORMAN SARACHEK Norman Sarachek’s camera based and cameraless photographs have been exhibited in galleries in the United States and the UK, including the New Mexico Museum of Art, Santa Fe, NM; Visual Studies Workshop, Rochester, NY; New England School of Photography, Boston, MA; Southern Vermont Art Center, Manchester, VT; Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA; Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA; and Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA. Using light, resist, and a chemical bath, the process is similar to that of a printmaker; however, the flow of chemicals across the silver gelatin photo paper and the effect of light on the silver open up unique avenues for you to explore. No prior darkroom experience is required; a darkroom assistant will help you learn to develop black and white photo paper.

RAKU FIRING WORKSHOP: JAMES PASTORE Session: Sunday, August 7 1 DAY Time: 10am-3pm Code: 16SU-CER-0014 Students: 10 (max.) $31.50 Members / $35 Non-Members Learn the basics of low-fired glazes, application, and firing techniques in this one-day workshop. Students may bring their own bisque pieces or purchase from a wide range of pre-made pieces. In just a few hours, everyone will leave with a beautiful piece of raku. Workshop starts promptly at 10am and runs through the day until all students have completed firing their pieces. Size Requirements: Pots should be no wider than 6" and no taller than 12". Avoid flat forms. Number of Pots: Students should plan on firing no more than five pieces. If time permits, we will fire extras. Clothing Requirement: All students should wear cotton clothing. Synthetic or wool clothing can get damaged with heat around the kiln and the reduction chambers. Long hair and loose clothing must be tied back.

WHAT'S RAKU? Raku is a traditional Japanese process where work is glazed, heated in a gas kiln, and then placed in a container of combustible materials. The results range from metallic coppers and golds to greens, yellows, reds, and blues.

DIGITAL ARTS ELECTRONICS FOR ARTISTS: WIL LINDSAY Session: Saturday, June 25 1 DAY Time: 1-5pm Students: 10 (max.) Students will pull thick murrinne and cane and then create two designs, where one will be reassembled into "roll up" panels in our warm glass studio. Finally, they will pick their pieces up hot on the end of a blow pipe and create a 3D, handblown vessel, approximately the size of a medium flower vase. Each student will leave with two pieces. CRAIG VANDALL STEVENS Craig Vandall Stevens designs and builds one-of-a-kind furniture for exhibition and commission. He studied furniture making with James Krenov at the College of the Redwoods Fine Woodworking Program in Northern California—a program renowned for its excellence in craftsmanship and attention to detail. Craig's work is exhibited around North America and Japan. He has received numerous awards including an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Ohio Arts Council, and has written feature articles for Fine Woodworking Magazine. Craig is also the author of five books, published by Schiffer Publishing, on the subjects of chip carving, marquetry, and furniture making. Internationally-renowned woodworker Craig Vandall Stevens has personally designed this 12-week intensive for the aspiring cabinetmaker or furniture maker whose aim is to work at a high-level of skill and create work that reflects personal expression. The curriculum reflects Craig's approach to woodworking, as well as teachings and sensibilities of his mentor, James Krenov. Section 1 covers the fundamentals of furniture making. In Section 2, students will complete a solid wood project from design to finish. Section 3 will cover bending, shaping, and veneers, with additional instruction in jig and fixture-making and assembling complicated projects in a thoughtful sequence. Scroll down to find the class/workshop title and click the "Register for this Class" button. You will be prompted to sign-in or create an account with us to complete your registration and make payment via credit card. BY PHONE: Call our Programs Department at 610.374.4600 x112. Have your class/ workshop title and class code handy, along with credit card information. IN PERSON: Paying by cash or check? No problem. POLICIES PAYMENT / CANCELLATIONS: Students must pay for classes upon registration. GoggleWorks reserves the right to cancel a class based on insufficient enrollment. If a class is cancelled students will be issued a full refund in the form used for payment. 10 REFUNDS: GoggleWorks issues refunds for cancellations made by students up to 10 days before the start of class. Tuition fees for cancellations made by students after that date are not refundable. It is the student's responsibility to attend the class for which he/she has enrolled. There are no refunds for classes that are missed. Students may not make up a missed class during another class session. C AMP OVERVIE W SPEND YOUR SUMMER WITH US! Get creative at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts this summer. There is no better place to foster the creative growth of your child(ren) and teens than with us in our professional artist studios. We offer our campers the opportunity to explore a variety of media and art-making techniques in our theme-based and medium-based camps. SCHEDULE: GoggleWorks' camps are offered Monday through Friday in full day or half day (am or pm) sessions, with the exception of Little Artists camps, which run 9:30-11:30am. GoggleWoods and Teen Studios are both full day programs, running from 9am-4pm.

CA M P OVER VI EW EXTENDED CARE: Extended care is available from 8-9am and 4-5pm daily for an additional $50 per week. Please contact the Programs Department to purchase an extended care package at 610.374.4600 x112. SNACKS & LUNCH: GoggleWorks provides a snack and juice drink daily to each camper. Parents are welcome to send a snack as well. If your child has allergies or requires a special diet, we ask that you notify the Programs Department and provide them with a snack item each day. Lunch will not be provided. Any campers in a full day program, including GoggleWoods and Teen Studios, must bring a packed lunch daily.

AGES 3-6 The Little Artist camp series is perfect for your young one. Parents and campers work together with GoggleWorks' artists to create a variety of hands-on projects. Each session will work with a specific theme to excite and inspire colorful and creative projects. Please note this camp requires a parent, guardian, or designated adult, to stay and participate with the camper.

AGES 7-10 The Growing Artist camp series will take your child through the halls of GoggleWorks and allow them to create in a fun, positive, and enriching environment. Each week, campers will grow creatively through lessons working with clay, glass, photography, printmaking, and mixed media. We cap off the week each Friday with an exhibition of campers' work in one of our professional studios.

Using our seas, rivers, lakes, and oceans as inspiration, campers will create their vision of underwater worlds and the creatures that inhabit their depths. Campers enjoy creative art exploration each morning at GoggleWorks and then head over to South Mountain YMCA's day camp for outdoor adventures, including swimming and horseback riding. NOTE: All campers should bring a swim suit, sunscreen, and towel daily. Campers will also need to pack a lunch daily. Parents/guardians will drop off and pick up campers from GoggleWorks each morning and afternoon. Transportation to and from South Mountain YMCA is included. TEEN STUDIOS AGES 14-17 GoggleWorks' Teen Studio series is designed for those interested in developing their skills and portfolio in a specific medium. Each week offers full day, immersive sessions taught within the professional studio environments at GoggleWorks. NOTE: All campers must pack their lunch, as meals will not be provided. OIL PAINTING JUNE 27 - JULY 1 Code: 16C-TC-0080 Material Fee: $23 This week-long studio will teach teens to build their color palette and technical skills in oil painting. Using still life and observation drawing as foundations, teens will enhance their skills and learn proper studio practices in oil painting. Prerequisite: prior drawing experience is required. GLASSBLOWING JUNE 27 - JULY 1 Code: 16C-TC-0088 $387 Members / $430 Non-Members All materials included in tuition. Teens in this studio will explore the modalities of working with hot glass. From blowing, to sculpting, to casting, teens will experience a variety of methods to working in the Hot Shop. Using copper and sand to create elaborate pieces, teens will learn the safe way to manipulate molten glass. Participants must wear natural fiber clothing, closed-toe shoes, and tie long hair back for safety. Using these media, students will learn how to tone, shade, and create depth in their drawings through observation and plein air around the GoggleWorks campus.

This studio covers the foundations for working in metals. Teens will learn to design, saw, and cast work, as well as solder and polish their finished pieces. Under the direction of our artist-instructor, teens will learn safe studio practices and touch on enameling toward the week's end. Teens will leave with multiple examples to wear and share with their family and friends.

This studio offers the opportunity to work in both warm and kiln-formed glass. Under the guidance of a GoggleWorks studio artist, teens will learn to design and construct multiple forms using the processes of slumping, fusing, casting, and molding glass.

Teens will explore 35mm film photography through the use of GoggleWorks' darkroom lab. This studio explores processing, printing, and techniques of toning and hand-tinting. The studio focuses on the use of 35mm SLR cameras, which are provided by GoggleWorks. Teens can also choose to bring their own. All materials and film are included in the material fee.

This studio will take teens through both wheelthrowing and hand-building techniques. The first two days, teens will learn to throw clay on the potter's wheel. The next two days will focus on hand-building techniques. The final day is reserved for glazing bisque ware and green ware in preparation for firing.

HOW TO REGISTER ONLINE: Go to goggleworks.org and select "Summer Camps" from the "Take A Class" dropdown menu on our home page. Filter camp(s) by age range using the menu on the left. Scroll down to find the camp session (full, am, or pm session) and click the "Register" button. You will be prompted to sign-in or create an account with us to complete your registration and make payment via credit card. BY PHONE: Call our Programs Department at 610.374.4600 x112. Have your class/ workshop title and class code handy, along with credit card information. IN PERSON: Paying by cash or check? No problem. Stop by our Information Desk, open daily from 9am - 9pm (credit cards also accepted).

POLICIES PAYMENT / CANCELLATIONS: Camp must be paid for upon registration. GoggleWorks reserves the right to cancel a camp based on insufficient enrollment. If a camp is cancelled, a full refund will be issued in the form used for payment. 10 REFUNDS: GoggleWorks issues refunds for cancellations made by campers up to 10 days before the start of camp, minus a $30 administrative fee. Tuition fees for cancellations made after that date are not refundable. It is the camper's responsibility to attend the camp for which he/she has enrolled. There are no refunds for sessions that are missed. Campers may not make up a missed session during another camp session. Due to the nature of the materials, ceramic and glass projects require additional time for firing and cooling.
