Spring always brings a sense of renewal and growth. Over the past year at GoggleWorks and in the surrounding arts community, weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve seen students, staff, artists, and teaching artists come, flourish, and even move forward in pursuit of their next adventure. We at GoggleWorks are forever proud to be part of their story as well as the story of the many artists that pass through our doors. Whenever someone comes in to teach, to work, to play, to explore, they leave an impression, no matter the length of their stay. They are forever a part of the fabric of our community. As we move into warmer temperatures and begin to shed the layers of winter, it is my hope that your art continues to grow, evolve, blossom or even bud with a new venture. In addition to our seasonal favorites and classic core curriculum, this term offers new opportunities to delve into the arts. Offered the last Friday of every month in our most popular studios, Maker Dates include a short studio tour, demonstrations, and complimentary beer, wine, and light fare. Our ceramic instructors will walk you through the basics of working on the potter’s wheel. Create a unique piece of pottery, then choose a glaze from our ceramic studio’s selection.

Our fused glass instructors will guide you through picking a mold and selecting your color palette to create a unique glass plate, platter, or bowl.

In hot glass, get hands-on experience in glassblowing by making a tumbler or stemless wine glass under the guidance of our professional glassblowers.

A damp box is a humid container used to store in-progress work without the hassle of plastic marring the surface and integrity of the piece. Detailed instruction will be covered in this workshop as students are guided through the steps in creating their own damp box that can be used in their personal clay practice.

Focusing on the copper foil method, this is a great introduction to the process of stained glass. Finally, in honor of Earth Day, we will have soil and succulents available to plant, leaving with a finished, handmade terrarium.

This two-day Painted Stained Glass Mobile workshop will touch on a number of techniques in both glass and drawing. On the first day students will choose, break, and shape glass pieces to various sizes. Using all transparent and translucent glass will allow us to then place the glass on top of a picture to act as a template. This imagery will be painted onto the surface of glass with a high fire glass paint. In the second class, students will finish their glass imagery by wrapping and soldering lead came around the edges. Finally, you will construct a mobile of hanging glass images.

This two-day workshop will combine fusing and blown glass techniques. Spend the first class in our warm glass studio cutting and layering sheet glass into a uniquely designed fused panel. In the second class, students will reheat their panel and roll up the glass on a blow pipe in the hot shop to create a 3D form. This workshop is ideal for students who are looking to expand their horizons in the glass world.

Celebrate the season by creating delicate spring flowers. Students will gain greater knowledge in solid sculpting and construction techniques while creating glass pendants to wear throughout the year. $50 / $42.50 (member)

Various metalsmithing topics will be covered, including fabrication with fine metals, complex soldering solutions, stone setting, enameling, etching, cuttlebone casting, polishing, and finishing techniques.

Learn the basic principles of MIG welding, a process in which an electric arc forms between a wire electrode and metal, causing them to melt and join together. WELDING WITH FOUND OBJECTS with Brian Glaze 5 Tuesdays May 7-Jun. 4 6-9pm

Discover and expand the fundamentals of jewelry silversmithing in this five-week, project-focused class. Weekly projects will introduce the techniques of sawing, shaping, hammer forging, and torch soldering sterling silver jewelry pieces. Students will unlock the techniques to create custom forged rings, bracelets, pendants, and beyond. This class will focus on beginner instruction, but will also be suitable to intermediate students willing to accept more challenging versions of the weekly project to improve their skills. Starting with a visit to a local scrap yard, you will learn how to identify weldable metals for your project. After a lunch break, use a MIG welder with other related hand tools to create your own found object sculpture. Glass and metal meet to create a polished and finished wearable necklace. Students will begin in the flameworking studio using color techniques to form a variety of glass beads. Ring in the season with a simple yet visually attractive stone set ring. Rings are both fun to make and wear. Learn to measure your ring size, cut, file, solder, pickle, form, set a stone within a bezel cup, and finally shine. This project stands alone but can also be the start for more elaborate and complex rings in the future.

Create your own chain mail with wire by making jump rings, using a jig or a simple wooden dowel. Small metal jump rings are created with the use of a jewelersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; saw. Students can also select from dowels of various diameters to create coils. The rings or coils are then linked together to form a pattern. Have fun designing and finishing a bracelet out of copper, brass, or nickel silver wire. Once you advance in the technique you can progress to sterling silver.

Choose from a selection of colors and designs provided by GoggleWorks, then follow our instructor as they walk you through the screen printing and heat setting processes. Youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll complete this class with two unique throw pillows for your home.

Students will learn the foundations of screen printing through a fun introduction of the materials and processes needed to silkscreen successfully, including creating your own screen, how to select and mix inks, and how to make a smooth print onto paper or fabric.

Learn the basics of screen printing in this hands-on, one-day workshop. Start with a digital graphic design and move through all the steps of preparing transparencies, coating and exposing screens, setting up a print job, and printing and setting ink.

Learn the basics of woodturning while transforming raw pieces of wood into functional and beautiful turned items. Working on wood lathes, students will learn safe and efficient woodturning techniques along with proper turning tool usage. This class is designed for beginners and those wanting to continue building on the skills learned in previous woodturning classes. Students will choose from projects such as mortar & pestle, candlestick, spurtles, honey dipper, spinning top, small vases, wine bottle stopper, rolling pin, and bowls.

This course focuses on the safe use of power tools, such as the table saw, jointer, planer, bandsaw, hollow-chisel mortiser, and routers. Students will learn to mill a piece of wood four-square, then make a laminated end grain cutting board and a toolbox using the milling and joinery skills learned in the class.

Approximately 10-12 hours of non-instructional time per week are available. Schedules are posted online and in each studio on a monthly basis. POLICIES PAYMENT Students must pay for classes in full upon registration. We accept cash and checks (on site only) and all major credit cards. Read course descriptions carefully for dates, times, and required supplies. GoggleWorks will send email confirmation after registration. CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS In the event that a student must withdraw their registration from a class or workshop, GoggleWorks will issue a full refund if cancellation is made seven days prior to the start of class. There will be no refunds or pro-rating options for missed classes. No refunds are issued for cancellations made within one week (seven days) of the first day of the scheduled class. GoggleWorks reserves the right to cancel any program due to insufficient enrollment. If a course is canceled, you will be notified of the cancellation five days prior to the start of class and will be offered to transfer to another course for a substitute or issued a full refund. In the event that a class or workshop is canceled due to inclement weather, GoggleWorks will schedule a make-up date. LOCATION Classes at GoggleWorks are located all around campus depending on your medium. One week (seven days) prior to class, GoggleWorks will send a welcome email including where to find your class on campus. If you are unsure of where your class is meeting, check in at the information desk in our lobby for assistance. Our facility is handicapped accessible. MINORS GoggleWorks requires written permission for all students under the age of 18 who are enrolled in any adult course. Please contact GoggleWorks Programs Department if you are enrolling a minor and a permission form will be provided via email before the start date of the course. This does not apply for Mini-Makers! Family Workshops. WAITLISTS If a class reaches maximum capacity, you will have the option to join a waitlist at the time of registration. If open spots become available in a wait-listed course, wait-listed students will be contacted to register in order of when they were added to the waitlist. If enough students join the wait-list, GoggleWorks will try to add an additional class or workshop. MATERIALS & SUPPLIES Most materials required for your course are included in the price of tuition. If additional supplies are needed before the beginning of class, a supply list will be included with the course description and emailed to registered students prior to the start of class. MAKEUP DATES GoggleWorks does not offer make-up dates for any student who is unable to attend a scheduled class. ARTWORK PICKUP If your class or workshop project(s) requires additional treatment after the course is over, GoggleWorks will contact you when work is completed and ready to be picked up. GoggleWorks does not ship work to students. Student artwork will be held 60 days after course end date. All work is subject to discard after the 60-day period. VIDEO & PHOTOGRAPHS GoggleWorks reserves the right to use photographs and/or videos taken during classes and other programs to market and promote GoggleWorks and its programs. Any student or legal guardian who does not wish to have his or her child photographed or photographed themselves, is asked to notify GoggleWorks upon registration.
