Chungknight is a fast-rising sculptoral artist based in Kingston, Jamaica. After starting his tertiary education in the sciences at the University of Guelph in Ontario (Canada), he later shifted to Architecture at Howard University in Washington D.C. (U.S.A.) in 1993 and finally completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts within the Fine Art Department of the same college in 1999. During his extensive career as an artist his work has been shown around the world, from Jamaica to the US. Most recently, Chingknight was commissioned by the Digicel Foundation to create a new monument at the Breezy Castle Roundabout in Downtown Kingston, Jamaica. Experiential learning in seemingly unrelated fields has enabled this visual artist to find connections where others seldom do, and this critical skill has infused his creativity and ultimately his art. “For me, art has always been and always will be one of the aspects of social life that allows the human spirit to not only soar beyond the confines of the physical world but also to learn and to grow. As such it is a critical component of the fabric of human development and should be seen as a counterpart to other facets of our world that are often given more credibility and focus such as the sciences and commerce. “Just as a man can be hungry because of a lack of food or money or both so can a man be malnourished or bankrupt in spirit because of a lack of creativity and self expression in his or her environment.” The Artist While struggling in his art to find meaning for his love of representing the human form with deep honesty, his purpose has also developed into that of a social documenter. The faces and the figures create by the artist through the frozen expressions and physical characteristics act as mirrors in which viewers can see themselves as part of a whole, within their very particular social and cultural fabric. Chungknight is one of several artists and galleries around the globe choosing to exhibit and sell works through Go Global Art, an art marketing organisation based in London but representing artists worldwide. www.goglobalart.com Go Global Art | tani@goglobalart.com | www.goglobalart.com
