Aqua Axis: Buoyant Future

" Global warming and rising sea levels threaten coastal cities, and this project aims to spotlight these dangers by transforming Manhattan’s Old Pier 48 into a climate-focused public space. Once bustling with maritime trade, the pier now symbolizes the urgent need for adaptation.

The design unfolds in three phases, each aligning with progressive water levels. Initially, the floating pier hosts events, while a nearby adaptation center fosters R&D efforts. As waters rise, research modules move to the pier, repurposing it as a hub for adaptation strategies. In the final phase, modular solutions are distributed across the city, showcasing sustainable responses to rising seas."

V aduct Surf Club

4rd Year First Semester Studio (at Erasmus+)

The Viaduct Surf Club project establishes a hub for cultural, sports, and social activities centered around the Negrelli Viaduct and the shores of the Vltava River. A steel truss system will support a pedestrian and bicycle bridge, connecting the island to the mainland and enhancing accessibility.

Beyond addressing local water sports needs, the project aims to draw tourists and create a vibrant space for the community. Landscaped viewing terraces and social areas will encourage engagement, promoting both athletic activities and community interaction within a scenic setting."

" This project was designed as Yaşar University Faculty of Architecture. The most important issue in this project is that the building elements are completely wooden. While designing this project, we tried to make our design decisions with an approach that puts sociability in the center for students. At the same time, we aimed to increase visual communication by creating gallery spaces. "

" The most important issue during the project was the structure, as our limitation was to have a completely wooden structure. The main structure consists entirely of a post and beam system. We decided to use a space frame to span our wide openings. In the system section you see on the side, you can see both the wooden beam and floor connections, as well as the connection of the space frame system "

"

Our aim in this project was to create a freeform grid shell design. Students presented their project, after this presentation, the project to be implemented and developed was decided by voting among the students. Afterwards, the selected project was developed. Then the students started to design 103 connection point. Some nodes are designed in one piece and some in 2 pieces with screw and cable holes. First of all, the nodes were printed with a 3d printer and the bars were cut, then the column and roof were made separately and connected as the final stage."

1. Step: Create Hexagons.

4. Step: Varnishing and joining the entire column.

2. Step: Adding vertical elements to hexagons.

5. Step: Connecting voronoi pieces on the frame.

7. Step: The column and canopy are connected and the supports are removed.

3. Step: Created the floor part and the top separately.

6. Step: It is raised on the frame and a column is placed under it.

"

The project offers an off-grid experience, starting with a boat journey through a sensory garden to a lighthouse hotel. Natural elements like caves and wooden platforms support activities such as yoga and diving, integrating the island’s landscape with the visitor experience.

Contrasting materials heighten sensory perceptions indoors, while winery and gastronomy enhance the journey, creating a cohesive, immersive experience

ELEVATED URBAN LAYERS

Ofisvesaire Competition Project

My Role in the Project: Coordinator / Design / Drafting / Modeling / Visual Narratives / Rendering

The project seeks to transform unused surfaces of building blocks into vibrant, productive agricultural areas while providing new public spaces for residents in the heart of Barcelona. By integrating rooftop agriculture, we aim to harness the potential of urban spaces to foster sustainable food production while enhancing the urban environment.

Architectural Profile Map : Project Type :

Transformation of

Courtyard

The courtyards within building blocks often remain as the roofs of carparks or storage areas and underutilized. Our project targets these spaces for transformation into green public areas through the introduction of planters and urban elements. This not only promotes urban green but also enhances the environmental quality of the surroundings, creating efficient and joyful open spaces for public use.

Vertical Connectivity

By creating a continuous integration between the courtyard, roof, and façade, we aim to develop a cohesive agricultural system that maximizes space and productivity. This vertical connectivity provides circulation between public spaces, enabling a sustainable and resilient urban farming model.

Interactive Agricultural Area the area where the public can experience the production area through an elevated path

Elevated Urban Layer the experience path travels along the rooftop farms, while providing a different perspective of the city.

Vertical Connection the existing voids have been transformed into a vertical element, creating a connection between the courtyard and the roof. This area is also used for vertical agriculture to maximize production and raise awareness among visitors.

Façade

In some parts of the existing buildings’ facades facing the courtyard, a secondary facade has been created using the same architectural language with vertical circulation. This integration of greenery has increased urban green spaces, aiming for these areas to be used as private or shared terraces by neighbors.

Roof

By converting these surfaces into rooftop farms, the aim is to significantly increase green spaces in Barcelona. These rooftop gardens will be designed to contribute to food security, reduction of carbon intensity or footprint of food and helps regulate building temperatures, reducing the urban heat island effect.

Activity Area at one edge of the path, there is an activity area that can be used for open-air cinema or any performance-related activity

Non-interactive Agricultural Area the area where the public cannot access through an urban layer

Courtyard as an unutilized roof layer Being underutilized, the roofs of the existing car park areas have been transformed into courtyards where various urban elements and greenery have been integrated for public use.

How can this approach be applied to other ‘manzana’ models?

Case 2

Another model for manzana involves a closed rectangle with varying building heights. This model can be implemented using a fill-in method, where different height voids are utilized for vertical farming. These farming spaces are interconnected through an elevated path accessible to residents of the block.

Case 3

In the last model we examined, the building block is rectangular in shape and closed off from the outside with uniformly regular building heights. In this model, rooftop farms can be accessed by only residents via each building’s own vertical circulation.

Great Hall Church

Ofisvesaire Client-Based Project

My Role in the Project: Design / Drafting / Modeling / Visual Narratives / Rendering

This project envisions a space fostering community and inclusivity for caregivers, caretakers, and employees, encouraging shared experiences in a supportive environment.

Key features include its reuse potential, inspiring ceiling structure, pointed arches, and role as a welcoming church. Accessibility and level differences enrich the spatial experience, though narrow corridors, limited natural ventilation, lighting, and service area layout require careful consideration.

My Role in the Project: Team Leader / Design / Drafting / Modeling / Visual Narratives / Rendering

The aim of the project is to offer accommodation, ski equipment rental restaurant and activity environment to the visitors who come to Kartalkaya for skiing. These activities are to create a life setup in the inner courtyard by designing the project as an introverted facility. The name of the project comes from here. Hayat is the local name of the courtyard in Turkish."

"URBAN CONTEXT | Bolu is one of the rarest cities of our country in terms of mountain countryside, both in terms of atmosphere and climate. Kartalkaya ski resort is a developing point where especially the young population will experience the excitement of adrenaline at its peak with winter sports. The lack of space where visitors can get used to the climate of the region and accumulate good memories in Bolu before they experience skiing is striking. In addition to winter sports, the hotel will provide the beauties of Bolu for 4 seasons and set a precedent for the region, while promising new experience routes and activities to the visitors "

"SHELL | A dynamic and mobile building core, the shell, that connects the internal and external identity of the project. Giving Hayat a new character and identity, the veil creates a context that surrounds the building. A new collective view in urban memory and a new intersection between the environment and the building. The semi-open spaces formed between the building and the shell gain a permeable function thanks to the tears in the façade."
