Harnessing Silicon Valley innovation
Letter from the CEO of Orange Silicon Valley This year, 2017, represents a major milestone in the continuing evolution of our mission here at Orange Silicon Valley, as it is 20 years since France Telecom installed a research office in Silicon Valley to understand the evolution of the Internet Protocol (IP). In our continuous presence here since then, we’ve seen a few changes, but our curiosity has only deepened. In these pages we share with you the learnings of our teams in working with the ecosystem of Silicon Valley. These learnings are about objectives and outcomes, domains and deliverables. Successfully connecting a global communications platform like Orange to the disruptions of Silicon Valley on a continuous basis means continuous adaptation, with the emphasis on engagement. Learning how to identify the sources of new value, and helping to realize the maximum return for our investment in human and business capital is our common ground with the hundreds of companies we interact with here at the San Francisco center of Orange. Serving 265 million customers in 29 countries is a humbling privilege, and one we know cannot be done without world-class partners. So whether you are a partner or a customer, and whether you are seeking for opportunity in the Now, the New, or the Next, our entire team of searchers and doers is here to share and collaborate, via publishing, piloting, or otherwise pushing the best in what Silicon Valley has to offer into your company’s future.

What are we doing in Silicon Valley? Learning from cutting-edge tech companies, we form technology and business hypotheses and test them, benchmarking along the way. Collaborating with our colleagues at Orange Business Services and Sofrecom, we seek out pain points and work on solutions for our business units and customers. Supporting early-stage startups with feedback on enterprise requirements, and nurturing them with development contracts. We learn from each other, and furnish proof-of-value to their investors at the same time. Sourcing alternative solutions from the rich ecosystem of Silicon Valley with a strong focus on reducing vendor-dependence, and thanks to open source communities and cloud, reducing total cost of ownership. Sharing our expertise in the form of technical and business model evaluations, providing due diligence capabilities across the many domains we cover. Engaging with colleagues, customers and partners in technical forums, ecosystem events, workshops, learning expeditions, and co-working arrangements. Building proof-of-concept trials for both Orange and its corporate partners, including Fab Force.
