5th Avenue Jewellers, Capri on Via Roma offer their customers the benefit of more than 100 years combined experience among them.

Founded by Bill and Pam Hannaford in Adelaide in the 1970s, the business in its current location is run by their daughter, Nicole, a fully qualified and registered Gemmologist and Valuer, and her husband, Darren Daley, manufacturing jeweller, Gemmologist, Diamond Technologist and Registered Valuer.

Nicole, a familiar face to so many Gold Coasters who prize precious pieces, says that even after 30 years in the industry, she is constantly stimulated by her work and finds new challenges every day.

“There’s so much I love about what I do. The travel, the unusual gemstones, beautiful designs and of course, being able to be creative and design things myself.”

“I also love being able to appreciate the uniqueness and rarity in a quality piece of antique jewellery that has survived over 100 years and is still so beautiful and rare.”

Nicole and Darren specialise in gemstone identification and jewellery designing, and their service is distinguished by offering good old-fashioned values based on honesty and ethics.

Becoming more popular is remodelling of inherited or estate jewellery. As Nicole explains, “People are looking to make use of older or broken items to create something new and unique. We are able to work with them to design and make a new and totally unique piece they will treasure for their life-time, and maybe pass on to the next generation.”

Like fashion, jewellery trends come and go, while some themes are enduring.

“Colour is playing a very important part in jewellery right now,” says Nicole. “Big, bold gemstones feature very heavily in necklaces and rings, making statement pieces an important trend.”
