CELEBRATION OF YOUNG WRITERS
The Gold Coast Writers Association is delighted to announce the official 2013 Gold Coast Writer’s Festival: Celebration of Young Writers. The Gold Coast Writers Festival and allied events will build sustainably over the coming years, taking different themes to meet the needs of our writing and publishing fraternity. The focus of the Festival this year is in encouraging young writers through building partnerships with more experienced authors and publishers, and will provide the platform for the implementation of a variety of innovations including: •
Authors in Schools Program
•
Mentoring Young Writers
The Gold Coast Writers’ Association is expanding our exciting program of partnerships with community groups, schools, publishers, illustrators, authors, businesses and writer’s organisations. Opportunities are available for involvement in our Festival this year, and in subsequent years, and other programs, and we invite you to consider becoming: •
A partner organisation through our partnership and sponsorship program
•
A coach, mentor, workshop provider and / or speaker
•
A member of the Gold Coast Writers Association
Our Authors in Schools Program this year will be run in four partner schools: •
Bellevue Park State School
•
Merrimac Senior High School
•
Palm Beach State School
•
Surfers Paradise State School
We look forward to some wonderful presenters this year, including the inimitable ‘Banjo of the Bush’, Dave Ferrer, who will be introducing, or re-introducing students to the joys of traditional Australian poetry. Literary Luncheon
The Gold Coast Writers’ Association Literary Luncheon was first held in 2010 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the association. It was the brainchild of Jeannie Barker, then president, and was initially intended to be a solo event. However, it was so successful that it was decided to make it an annual event. The Literary Luncheon is the highlight of the GCWA’s social calendar. It provides a unique opportunity for the community to dine with renowned authors in a relaxed informal setting, whilst also enjoying a first class speaker presentation. This year we are very excited to have journalist, author and photographer Ray Martin as our guest speaker. In a break from the previous tradition of having a speaker after the luncheon, Ray will be presenting his talk prior to the luncheon being served. (So please make sure you arrive on time!) Tickets for the luncheon are strictly limited and will be sure to sell out quickly. We suggest you book online as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Visit www.goldcoastwritersfestival.com.au to reserve your tickets and pay by credit card or direct debit via PayPal. Jeannie Barker GCWA Webmaster (2009-2013) GCWA President (2010-2011)

Whether you’re a born and bred local, a new resident, a visitor, or someone who just plans or hopes to come to the coast, tell us what you think about our special little piece of Australia.
