Hello Members, Weather has finally cooled down. Cooler nights has seen some nice Autumn colours around for the last few weeks. Still little rain about though. Looking forward to the Autumn break. I hope everyone has looked into attending the AABC convention in Melbourne and the Bonsai Masters event in Canberra in Aug/Sept. Ryan Neil is at both events. I have booked in to go to Canberra since we are having our May meeting as a bus trip to the AABC Convention, VNBC Exhibition and sales area. Last month we had Catherine give us a short talk on pH levels in our soil and what we should be looking at when selecting a growing medium for our Bonsai. It was good to see that all the pre-packaged soils were in the normal range. I have put Catherine’s plant deficiency chart on page three. It’s a good reference when trees don’t look healthy. An important reason to feed your trees with a balanced fertiliser. We also had Trevor give us a talk on making Muck, which could come in handy for this Sunday’s Group Planting Demonstration/Workshop with Diederik. Speaking of this Sunday, remember to bring along a tree or two to work on and if you are planning on attempting a slab planting or Group Planting in a pot to have all your materials with you. We have asked Diederik if he can bring along his diamond drill to help those who may need to put a hole in a slab or a rock to assist with drainage or attaching. Last weekend we had Bendigo Bonsai Club’s Easter Exhibition. It was good to see a few members posting on Facebook that they had attended. I was there three times and didn’t see any of you, other than David Allen and Shrua. There was a nice mix of trees on display and an excellent sales area and Demonstrations by David and Sally. Some photos on page three. That’s enough from me, I look forward to catching up with everyone on Sunday. Paul
