Hello Members, Its winter but you wouldn’t know it from the last few days. The autumn colour this year was spectacular but now most of the leaves are just mulch on the garden or causing a slipping hazard on the paths. I have been able to do some autumn pruning of some of my garden pines, I need to get the ladder and the long loppers out to work on the Black Pines and the Atlas cedar. Last month we had an enjoyable day revisiting our Root Over Rock projects. Everyone had something to work on and it was good to see the progress some of the trees have made since we started them either last year or the one before. I was pleased at the progress my trees have made and look forward to unveiling them more in about two years time. There are plenty of photos on page two and three. This month we have a road trip up the highway to visit Shrua at his home nursery and after lunch and a shop we have been invited to David Allen’s home to have a look at his trees and then we will have a hands on workshop some of his trees. Workshop will cover tree design, structure and wiring. I think this is going to be a great day out and a fantastic opportunity to see and learn from some of Bendigo’s finest bonsai enthusiasts. That’s enough from me, I hope to see you on Sunday from 11am (details and map on the last page) for another enjoyable day. Paul

Helen sent me a photo of her parottia (Persian ironwood) in its autumn splendour.

May Meeting GBS May Meeting. Root over Rock. Sunday saw the group taking a look at the progress of our Root over Rock projects from last year. All were happy with the years growth, there was pruning of roots and branches as required but main focus was on ensuring the roots were well secured to the rock. In some cases trunks were reduced to stimulate new growth and a fresh start. Many tackled new projects finding just how tricky it can be bending a thick root into place. There were well established Bonsai ROR, some to admire others getting adjustments. The hours flew by due to the constant activity and good humour of the group. Thanks to Paul for providing a vast selection of Maples for all to share. Well done all "Great day" Regards Glenn. Photos from Facebook page
