Hello Members, Another busy month for me, what has everyone else been up to? After our dig at Bodhidhama last month I had a few days of repotting my own deciduous trees, so they are all done for the next 12 months. Then it was up to Canberra for the Bonsai Masters event held at the Arboretum home to the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection. What a fabulous event, well organised and a very enjoyable weekend. Ryan Neil and Master Kunio Kobayashi wowed us with the results achieved during the workshops. Saturday evenings demonstrations and cocktail evening was also excellent although I could afford the prices of the auctioned trees at the end of the night $4600 for Mr Kobayashi’s tree. It was great to see GBS well represented again, Bob and Nicky were also in attendance. (see page three for photos). So now I am busy sorting through my trees organising the evergreens that need repotting over the next few months and staying on top of the weeds and new growth checking for signs when any wiring that needs to come off. Last month we had another excellent turnout and day in Shepherds Flat. Thankyou Diederik for your hospitality and I think we all dug some excellent trees to work with. A few also had a shop in the nursery, I am very happy with my buy, and I am sure the others were as well. This Sunday we are having a repotting day. Bring along a tree or two to get advice and help with if required. Helen is bringing some potting mix and zeolite to make up some soil but I would expect most to bring their own supplies. Pam will be bringing over some of Leesa’s trees for us to repot as her health has not enabled her to tend to her trees lately. We all wish her well and hope this small contribution can bring her some enjoyment during these hard times. Our Spring exhibition is fast approaching , please make sure you are starting to prepare your trees by keeping on top of the spring growth. If you can trim early you should have a healthy new flush of growth leading into November. That’s enough from me, I look forward to catching up on Sunday for another enjoyable day with friends. Paul
