Hello Members, Its getting close to our busiest time of the year, I hope you are all prepping trees for next months exhibition. I know I am not the best when it comes to having trees ready, but I will have one new addition to the display this year. It probably should have been potted up for a couple of years by now and would therefore have another season or two of ramification, as it has just sat hiding for a few years. Anyway at least I am slowly gaining confidence with what I am doing and in the mean time those forgotten trees are still developing character in their trunks. Last month saw us venture out to Newstead where we firstly enjoyed a visit to former members Barry and Jenny Lacey. Barry and Jenny have a beautiful garden and Barry also maintains an excellent collection of bonsai. Barry took us for a quick beginner Tai Chi class and we were slowly starting to remember the sequences. Catch the peacock, pat the peacock, release the peacock. Then it was off to Helen and Trevor’s for lunch and afternoon activities, which included pottery class, repotting a large hawthorn, digging seedlings and looking at their wonderful collection of bonsai, garden, pottery, buildings and having a fantastic day out with friends. Plenty of photos from Simon and Karli on the next page. Tomorrow we have a general workshop day preparing trees. So bring along anything you want advice on or help with. It is also time to get a list together of what trees you will be displaying at the exhibition. I will be making up new tags for any that require them so over the next two weeks get those details to me. That’s enough from me, I hope to see you on Sunday for another enjoyable day. Paul

September Newstead trip

A fantastic day out at Newstead. The day started with a beautiful garden and Tai Chi at Barry and Jenny’s. Followed by Helen and Trevor’s lovely garden and bonsai. But also Trevor’s Pottery complete with apprentices left.

Goldfields Members out and about. The Showell’s minus Sidney took a trip down to Geelong and caught up with Tom and his puppy’s, fish and chips on the Geelong foreshore. Tom is enjoying getting back into pottery and is creating some very nice work as well as sharing his vast knowledge

On the way home we stopped at Kellie’s cousins for a spot of olive digging. 20 year old trees which have been stunted due to poor soil and kangaroo and rabbit grazing. There could a few for sale at the exhibition next month. We also called in at their other property, check out the views. Sidney wants to go abseiling.
