Hello Members, The Showell’s are back and refreshed after our holiday to Vietnam. I saw you had a great day out at David and Trish’s last month, thankyou to Glenn and David for organising such a terrific day. Well the 2016 Exhibition is nearly upon us, I hope you have all managed to get a few trees prepared for our little display. The change of venue this year to the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens will enable us a more intimate experience. I love Simon’s post on Facebook, “Come and see our small tree display amongst the giant trees”. The Castlemaine Botanical Gardens were designed by Baron von Mueller and established 150 years ago, it will be interesting to see how some of our bonsai compare to the many 100 plus year old trees. This year we hope everyone can get a couple of extra trees into the display and don’t forget an accent to compliment your trees, whether that is a plant, rock or another object. If you have any bonsai related items to sell, our Sales area will have more space this year for your starter trees, accents, established bonsai, tools, pots and books we want it all. Just make sure everything is labelled so David and his helpers can keep tabs on our sales. This month’s meeting will be all about preparing our trees, getting a list together so I can produce labels where required, organising a roster of sorts and getting any other final preparations sorted. That’s enough from me, I hope to see you on Sunday for another enjoyable day. Paul

September Road Trip Today we took all roads to the Rojo home. Our September Big Day Out was a great day. Although David and Trish's home is very easy to find some of us decided to trust our phone GPS and trip all over the country side. None the less we all made it in good time to share a spectacular lunch. Trish went all out and served up a wonderful home cooked spread. Superbly flavoured home made Sausage rolls, followed by two massive plates of fluffy light and delicious straight out of the oven lemonade scones. With lashings of jam and cream they were scoffed down with glee. We were made feel so welcome, warm and comfortable as we sat and chatted. Soon we were outside among a fantastic array flowers and spectacular trees. David has an impressive collection of Bonsai with a definite personal style. The day was slipping away but we were more than happy to spend it with our delightful hosts. David and Trish have a wonderful selection of trees and plants equal if not better than any nursery. David was very generous and we were all excited with our selections. Soon it was time to move on to the nurseries. We checked the time and discovered there is certainly truth in that "time flies when you are enjoying yourself". Thanks to all those that shared in the day, especially our wonderful "Hosts, David, Trish and Bonnie the most adorable little digetty dog". You have a very special home, with your kindness and generosity we all felt like it was our own, even if it was just for one day. Oh, and by the way, that means "We will be back". Kind Regards and Thanks from All at GBS. From Glenn’s post on GBS Facebook page.
