Hello Members, Its cold outside and many of us have been suffering from a cold or flu. I just spent last weekend laying on the couch trying to stay warm and get over a massive head cold. Unfortunately I'm back at work now so missed out on the weekend, why do you always get sick on the weekends. Last month we had a very enjoyable trip up to Bendigo, we met at Shrua’s home and perused his backyard nursery for some starter plants as well as admiring some of his excellent private collection. It was great to catch up with Warren Hamilton (former President GBS) whom we haven’t seen for some time, as well as welcome Sophie and her two boys who are just starting out in bonsai after a inspirational trip to Canberra and the Arboretum. After a break to find some lunch we moved on to David’s home at Mandurang. David certainly has a passion for cars and bonsai and his yard is quickly filling up with both. After looking at David’s wonderful collection and enjoying a cuppa we sat down for a demonstration on developing trees from yamadori. David showed us the importance of making that initial trunk chop at the right location so as to maximise the future trunk and branch development. After branch selection he went onto wiring. Always leave your branches grow out to the required thickness before shortening as when you start ramification the branch will not thicken much further. David showed us a tree Shrua had collected in 2015 and after only two years development it was already showing signs of becoming a fantastic bonsai. Shrua’s passion for collecting yamadori has certainly grown and now together with David they are developing a fantastic nursery for all bonsai enthusiasts to get advanced starters with huge potential on being developed into great trees. We wish to thank Shrua and David for their hospitality on the day and I look forward to the next time I get a chance to go shopping. That’s enough from me, I hope to see you on Sunday for another enjoyable day. Paul

Will was away in Tasmania last month taking some beautiful photos, like this one from Cradle Mountain. Sorry Will I had to crop it to fit on the page better.
