Hello Members, Well that’s another exhibition done and dusted. I think all that attended will say that the new location was a big success. I heard a few went to the Ray Bradfield Rooms expecting to find us there so I hope everyone was able to locate us at the Botanical Gardens. Having early access to the venue for a Friday afternoon setup certainly helped, as we were all set by about 5:30pm. As always a big thankyou to those who came along early to get the job done, as well as during and at pack up time, with a small club it is always all hands on deck. I don’t know if we did a tree count but I would think our numbers overall were similar to previous years. I think the quality was up, I had several visitors comment on the aged appearance of many of the trees under 10 years in development, we are learning. The bigger venue enabled the trees to be spread out a bit more and the lack of windows behind the trees certainly made viewing that much better. With the sales area inside it also enabled most to enjoy the event at a much more leisurely pace. Although I will say that Sidney and Karli, assisted by Alison and Kellie, did a wonderful job doing entry, raffle tickets as well as maintaining the sales records for the weekend. Overall takings for the weekend were up thanks to the generous donation of pots and starter trees from Tom. Once Glenn and I pass all the paperwork to David I suspect we will net a small profit. So we’ll be keen to hear your ideas for spending some on an event we can all benefit from. Bonsai got some great exposure this year thanks to Cable Williams, who put together a wonderful piece for the WIN television news. A copy is available for viewing on our Facebook page. Finally, thankyou to all our Bonsai friends who called in to visit us, many made the trip from Melbourne and beyond and catching up with other enthusiasts, as well as creating new interest, is the most enjoyable part of the experience. Well it is nearly Christmas again. This Sunday 27th we have our xmas breakup at Bodhidharma at Sheppard's Flat. Diederik and Tara are hosting and will have the BBQ ready for us. More details and a map on page 4. That’s enough from me, I hope to see you on Sunday for another enjoyable day. Paul

October Meeting and Exhibition, The new location, it's beautiful surrounds, combined with an enthusiastic group and a wonderful exhibition of a huge variety of bonsai made for a very successful weekend. WIN comes to the Exhibition. Cameraman Cable interviewed members and filmed the goings on for a full story feature. People seemed to come and stay, they enjoyed the unique exhibition and were full of questions about all things Bonsai. The sales area was busy and all involved combined to create a great show. We all know how much everyone does to make these weekend events such a success. A special thanks to Sid and Karli who spent all day Sat/Sun on the door, taking care of all the admin and even giving dog lovers a safe place to leave their Pups as they had a look inside. Sid and Karli you should know it was a very special sight to see David Rojo relaxed with his trees and chatting with a fascinated public, instead of stuck behind the table year in year out. You both did a very special thing and it was appreciated by all. The support from clubs all throughout Victoria was and is very generous and very encouraging. With the club numbers dwindling it is a little discouraging at times, only 12 people involved for the weekend, so to see so many enthusiastic Bonsai Lovers, Club members and others makes it all worth while. With the willingness to do what needs to be done and everyone sharing the load with a happy smile and a cheerful attitude the weekend was a wonderful success. Well done "ALL". Edited from Glenn’s posts on Facebook.

More Exhibition Photos

I’ve only put in people photos as the event was about the experience rather than the individual trees on display. Some pictures below of the October meeting, preparing for the exhibition.

The last bonsai event for the year - a great opportunity to pick up quality material at sale prices and support our Melbourne friends.

This guy was supposed to be in the show but left it's flowering till late. It is brightening the place up now. It is in a very old Chinese pot and the pot has three stamps underneath signifying it's collectability. Diederik
