Dr Steven R. Goldstein is a leading Gynecologist in Manhattan, in private practice for over 25 years. Dr Goldstein often sees patients present with a condition called Endometriosis.

What is Endometriosis? Endometriosis is the presence of endometrial tissue outside the endometrial cavity. These glands respond to cyclical hormones, thereby causing microscopic internal bleeding and pain during the course of the menstrual cycle. The ectopic tissue bleeds in episodes, causing inflammation, adhesions and scarring.

The exact cause of endometriosis is unknown and there are multiple theories. Endometriosis does not always show symptoms. There appears to be a higher incidence of endometriosis in women who are diagnosed with infertility and pelvic pain.

Endometriosis can occur in many forms, including the formation of cysts known as endometriomas (chocolate cysts), which typically develop in ovarian tissue. Endometriosis can also occur in the uterus with the propagation of endometrial glands into the myometrium, a condition known asAdenomyosis.

Endometriosis can also take the form of small deep implants of endometrial tissue in many different places in the body, including the wall of the bladder, the anterior abdominal wall, the bowel wall and the uterosacral ligaments, as well as other pelvic

sites. Rarely endometriosis can occur in sites such as the lung, potentially causing hemoptysis.

The original treatment for endometriosis was a laproscopy. This is an invasive medical procedure for determining whether pain is due to endometriosis or from a normal but painful period. Dr Goldstein, prefers painless, non-invasive Transvaginal Ultrasounds to diagnose whether the condition is Endometriosis. Dr Goldstein does not even recommend laprascopies.

Dr Steven R. Goldstein MD, a Gynecologist in Manhattan, is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York University School of medicine, a former Director of Gynecologic Ultrasound at NYU Langone Medical Center and a Past President of theAmerican Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.

Dr Goldstein is one of the most highly regarded individuals in the field of gynecologic ultrasound. He is able to use transvaginal ultrasounds, which he performs himself and does not rely on a technician or a report, to properly diagnose the endometriosis. These transvaginal ultrasounds lead to the production of clear, high resolution images of the uterus, endometrial lining, fallopian tubes, ovaries and so on to allow Dr Goldstein to make a precise diagnosis and preserve the images for any other specialist who may need to see them. Women experiencing painful periods or heavy bleeding during periods may schedule a consultation with Dr Steven R. Goldstein MD, one of the best Obgyn in Manhattan.

At Dr Goldstein’s office, patient care is catered to the patient and Dr Goldstein is the only medical personnel you will see on your visit as he attends to you from beginning to end, personally performing all examinations and procedures.
