1924 Stutz Sport Brougham pulled from garage after nearly six decades For Vancouver-area classic car buffs, it was a chance to see a time capsule in the form of an 87-yearold car that had been stored for most of its life. The Internet was ALYN EDWARDS buzzing and telephone Classic information was being RIDES exchanged right up until noon on Remembrance Day when the garage doors were finally opened. The 86-year-old owner had built the house in Coquitlam in 1949 – the same year his father had sold him the car for $1. Even then, the 1924 Stutz Sport Brougham was considered a really old car. People in the neighborhood had heard about the old car but few had seen it. It had remained parked inside the closed garage since the early 1950s. Earlier in the fall, Coquitlam classic car enthusiast Dave Waters had gone to the house to check out a garage sale. He had known about the car since the mid 1980s when he had attended another garage sale and was invited to see the old Stutz. This time, it was the owner’s daughter who was holding the garage sale and he inquired if the Stutz would finally be put up for sale. That would lead to the day when more than 100 people crowded into the driveway of the home to see the car finally come out of decades of storage. the garage door. In its early days, the 1924 Stutz Sport Brougham had been photographed at the family cottage in White Rock and outside the Coquitlam house when it was under construction in 1949.
