CAMP INSTRUCTION

2011-12 CAMPS HITTING CAMPS Hitting camps will cover all aspects of fundamental offense, including instruction in hitting, offensive execution, bunting, and mental approach to hitting.

PITCHING CAMPS Pitching camps will cover all aspects of fundamental pitching. This includes mechanics, pitch grips, pickoff moves, arm care, and the mental side of pitching.

ALL SKILLS CAMPS This camp is specifically designed for the advanced player. Players will be instructed in all phases of the game. This will include handling adversity, the mental side of baseball, situational baseball instruction, game preparation, and fundamental instruction in pitching, hitting, and defense.

Eric Screeton was named head coach of the Goshen College Maple Leafs baseball program in late August of 2010. He spent the previous four years as the top assistant coach/ recruiting coordinator at nationally ranked NCAA Division III Franklin College. As Franklin College’s primary hitting and fielding coach, the team shattered multiple offensive records, was in the top fifteen in several national statistical categories, and completed the best three-year run in school history. Prior to his days at Franklin, Coach Screeton was an assistant coach at Bluffton University while receiving his masters degree in education. In two short years, the Beavers went from the cellar of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference to second place and also doubled their roster size.

Screeton’s playing experiences consisted of graduating from New Haven High School in 2000 and Manchester College in 2004. The secondary education major played in an Indiana High School Final Four, a NABF World Series championship game, and a NCAA Division III World Series.

Coach Screeton has been a part of winning traditions throughout his baseball career and is working to bring the same to Goshen. He is connected and respected throughout the coaching baseball fraternity, having been a camp instructor at the University of Notre Dame, University of Kentucky, and Purdue University. In just six years of coaching, he has already been asked to speak twice as a clinician for the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association and for the Youth Coaches Clinic at the Mettler Athletic Center in Champaign, Ill. “We are focused on getting better each day and building our program through players of character, commitment and conviction. Our goal is to help shape young men into CHAMPIONS on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.”

CAMP LOCATIONS The Winter Camps will be held in the gymnasium of Goshen College’s Roman Gingerich RecreationFitness Center. The Spring Break and Summer Camps are scheduled outside at the Goshen College Baseball Complex.
