GUNDEN GYMNASIUM
Location: Southeast corner of campus, just across the railroad tracks from College Mennonite Church. Built: 1995 Capacity: Varies from 500 to 5,000 depending on setup Goshen College student-athletes train and compete in one of the best small college athletic facilities in the nation. The Roman Gingerich Recreation-Fitness Center, which opened in 1995, is home to the Maple Leafs’ 14 intercollegiate athletic teams and is one of the newest additions to an ever-growing college campus. The $7.3 million facility houses a variety of athletic and fitness-related activities. Whether you are a member of the golf team hitting balls on the indoor range or a basketball player running on the 200-meter indoor track, the Gingerich Center offers athletes every chance to train and compete successfully. The luxury of such a large athletic training facility allows athletes to train when their schedule permits. The recreation-fitness center is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. throughout the week, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. With these hours, athletes also have the opportunity to train and compete without sacrificing their academic pursuits. During their respective seasons, Goshen teams can all take advantage of the facility in a three-hour time frame and are not forced to practice at odd hours. The spring sports season brings five Goshen teams into the facility at one time. The golf team is able to hit balls in one area, while the softball team takes cuts in the batting cage, the baseball team has infield practice and the track-and-field squad trains on the indoor track. Not many institutions can boast of such an efficient use of time or space, and that is one reason Goshen has continued to excel both athletically and academically.

2009 -10 SEASON PREVIEW
Maple Leafs Have High-Powered Attack On Both Ends Maple Leafs return 80 % of scoring from a year ago, have added one of most talented recruiting classes to deep, versatile 2009-10 squad
GOSHEN, Ind. – Expectations can be a funny thing when you look at a season on the verge of starting. Sometimes those expectations crush a team and sometimes they create a path to success. Or in instances like the 2009-10 Goshen College men’s basketball team, they just create an opportunity to prove something. Not knowing what the expect from the Maple Leafs, Mid-Central College Conference coaches picked Goshen to finish eighth in the ultra-competitive league. Despite returning four starters and seven lettermen, that is exactly the way head coach Gary Chupp wants it. Whether others recognize it or not, Chupp knows his team has the potential and talent to rise to the top of the MCC standings in 2009-10. Whether or not the team that finished 14-17 – including 5-11 in the MCC -– a year ago can make the drastic turnaround will rely heavily on how quickly a large group of newcomers can blend with the returning core of players. “I am really excited about the mix of players we have because we do bring back a lot of experience, but also have brought in a very talented recruiting class,” Chupp 5 – MAPLE LEAFS BASKETBALL
explained. “They have come together quickly with the young guys bringing a lot of energy to balance with the experience and maturity of our upperclassmen.” The Maple Leafs have nearly 80% of their scoring returning, but have often struggled to find consistent second and third scoring options for three-time All MCC First Team Selection Errick McCollum II. The six-foot, two-inch senior guard averaged 22.8 points a game last season, is just six points shy of 2,000 for his career, and only 283 short of the alltime Goshen College record. A pair of community college transfers join the Goshen starting lineup immediately and offer a variety of challenges for defenders. Another transfer, Simon Szablicki is the epitome of a basketball player. Overall, depth is certainly a strength of the 2009-2010 Maple Leafs. Don’t know what to expect from the 2009-2010 Maple Leafs? Expect big things? Expect excitement. Expect! CLICK HERE FOR COMPLETE SEASON PREVIEW INCLUDING VIDEO
