While many people leave behind the Florida summer experience to head up north, there are a select number of golfers who don’t seem to mind it. As the snowbirds are starting to leave and head back up north, golf courses will look a little emptier and finding a tee time will become a little more accessible. Our cover story for this issue features private clubs who will be offering reciprocals to other private clubs, where you’ll have a chance to play at other area gems not traditionally open to the public. Be sure to check out the multitude of Summer and Trial Memberships that many of the area’s public and private clubs are offering this summer, such as The Hideaway Country Club, Quail Run Golf Club, and Quail Village Golf Club, just to name a few. If you are looking to play in summer tournaments but not a member of a club, look no further than The Club at Westminster, which was recently purchased by Lifestyle Management Group of Florida. Their year-round events are open to both membership and the public. There is still time to take advantage of the Big Summer Golf Card, where you can enjoy their special offerings all year long. This is the #1 golf privilege card in Florida! And speaking of special offerings, Cigars International is running their special on an eight-piece sampler, ideal for a perfect day by the pool this summer. We hope that Golf Coast Magazine can be your guide on all that Southwest Florida has to offer in the golf community. You can visit us at GolfCoastMagazine.com to keep up to date on all the latest golf stories, local golf news, and tips. You can also subscribe to our free e-newsletter that goes out every week. You can also follow us on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter as well! We hope that you will enjoy your time on Florida’s beautiful West Coast! Fairways and greens,

COVER FROM THESTORY EDITOR

Summer Golf in Southwest Florida Summer is a time when locals

and savvy travelers get the best opportunity to explore SWFL. Gone are the crowds, long lines, and sold-out tee sheets. Despite that summer heat, it’s a great time to broaden your horizons and explore courses that you have never played before. There’s no shortage of incredible golf options in SWFL – we truly have the world’s greatest golf market! While most courses will close for a couple weeks every summer, there’s always a phenomenal option nearby. It’s also a great time to participate in local events and try out your local club’s dining options. Our clubs feature incredible chefs who highlight their talents all year – it’s great, both as a patron and for the restaurants, to support them in the summer season. Public Courses There’s no question that we’ve seen GolfCoastMagazine.com

higher prices on everything from gas, groceries, to golf over the past year. Summer in SWFL offers a little relief and opportunity to play incredible courses at discounted rates. Rates for summer golf can be 50% (or more) lower than in-season rates. There are often far fewer players on the course, allowing for players to play at their own pace – you won’t find yourself waiting to tee off very often or pressured by players from behind. It’s also much easier to walk onto a SWFL course in the summer. While we always try to make tee times in advance, you can often walk on or call a few minutes ahead and get a great round of golf! If you play in the early morning, you’ll beat the heat, though the course will be at it’s busiest. In the afternoon, you may have to dodge a few showers, but if you thread that needle it can be the best time to play.

The Stars of the LPGA Tour Return to Tampa Bay for The Pelican Women’s Championship, Nov. 7-13

The LPGA Tour’s return to the Tampa Bay region for the first time in over 30 years for fans did not disappoint in finalround theatrics and drama at the 2021 Pelican Women’s Championship at Pelican Golf Club. Nelly Korda bounced back from a triple-bogey on the par-4 17th at Pelican Golf Club to birdie the 18th and final hole in regulation from 21 feet to force a four-way playoff alongside Lydia Ko, Sei Young Kim and Lexi Thompson. The group returned to play the 18th hole in the playoff, and similar to her final hole of regulation, Korda went on to record her second-consecutive birdie, this time from 23 feet, to capture her fourth LPGA Tour win in 2021. “I honestly lost hope,” said Korda, referring to her triple bogey on 17. “I was like, okay, just try to make a solid par because 18 is a really tough hole. If you have a chance for birdie, then try and go after it. My caddie [Jason McDede] really kept me in the moment and I didn’t give up.” In 2022, The Pelican Women’s Championship is excited to welcome 108 of the world’s top female professional golfers back to Tampa Bay for the tournament’s

third edition, taking place Nov. 10-13, competing for a share of a $2 million purse. Tickets are on sale for the 2022 Pelican Women’s Championship exclusively online at www.PelicanLPGA.com. A variety of ticket packages are available, including access to the “Lightning Lounge” a luxury skybox overlooking the tournament’s signature par-3 12th, and general admissions tickets that offer a wide degree of entertainment and access. In honor of Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 11, military members (active, reserve, retired and veterans) will receive complimentary access to the tournament grounds all week. Children ages 17 and under gain free admittance with a paid adult. The final full-field regular season event on the LPGA Tour, The Pelican Women’s Championship will offer festivities and activities throughout tournament week for adults and kids of all ages. And if 2021 was any indication, the 2022 Pelican Women’s Championship will be the LPGA Tour’s must-attend event of the fall. Complete information is available at www.PelicanLPGA.com. Visit www.PelicanLPGA.com for more information about the 2021 PelicanWomen’s Championship.

Having Fun with SWFL Golf Community “Reciprocals!” By Joe Morgan-GOLF HOME GURU ® One of the KEY “perks” of owning and

living in a Southwest Florida golf community is having access to a large number of other golf courses during the off-season. Virtually every SWFL private golf community offers its members a “Reciprocal List” of 40-60 area golf courses that they can play during the period of May 1 through October 31. In most cases, the total cost of the golf round is just slightly more than the typical cost of a cart fee; and, the hosting club will also quite often throw in a discounted lunch/beverage in an effort to lure golfers into their dining facilities. Regardless of whether your home Download the new

golf community is a bundled or non-bundled private club, the “Reciprocal List” of your community will typically include an outstanding mix of golf communities/golf courses. During summer months, each golf community shuts down one day per week for minor on-going maintenance, and shuts down at least two times for one-to-two weeks for major maintenance (aeration, etc). The reciprocal system allows individual golf members and golf groups to play other high-quality, challenging golf courses during these shutdown periods. The process for setting up reciprocal tee times is quick and easy...just call your local club pro and he/she will contact the reciprocal club and set up your preferred tee time. After playing 40-60 (or more) rounds of golf on your home course during January though April—and getting to know every square yard of fairway landing area and every inch of break on the greens—the

reciprocal program offers you an affordable opportunity to test your finely-honed golf skills on other beautiful and challenging courses. As all golfers appreciate, playing a golf course for the first time can be an interesting—and often humbling— experience...but it also enables you to discover other courses, and golf communities, that you really like. You may like some of them so much that you play them multiple times during the reciprocal period, and some you’ll play year-after-year. And, your love of a particular course that you played in reciprocals may even guide your decision-making process for a future golf real estate purchase. If you haven’t bought in Southwest Florida yet and you’re in the process of scouting out housing and golf communities, please be sure to ask each club’s Membership Director and/or Golf Pro to give you a copy of their most recent “Reciprocal List”. In some cases, you can access this list on the community’s website. If you already own in one of our wonderful area golf communities, you’ll automatically receive a “Reciprocal List” each year, either online or via handouts or mailings. As you review a golf community’s “Reciprocal List”, I’d suggest that you look for the following outstanding golf venues. You’ll thoroughly enjoy playing each one of them. If you compare this list to my exclusive “GURU Top 25 SWFL Golf Communities” list on my website (GolfHomeGuru. com), you’ll see that all of these communities are also on that list. This is no coincidence, as a major consideration in formulating my “Top 25” list was the quality and playability of the golf course...as determined by my past/ current customers, and by me. • Bundled Golf Communities Naples: Esplanade; Heritage Bay; Naples Lakes; Treviso Bay; Vanderbilt. Bonita Springs: Bonita National. Estero: Pelican Sound. Ft. Myers: Colonial; Legends. GolfCoastMagazine.com

HOMES

• Non-Bundled Golf Communities Naples: Fiddler’s Creek; Greyhawk at Golf Club of the Everglades; Grey Oaks; Kensington; Mediterra; Olde Cypress; Quail Creek; Quail West; Talis Park; The Quarry; TwinEagles; Wyndemere. Bonita Springs: Bonita Bay; Palmira; Pelican Landing. Estero: Shadow Wood at the Brooks; West Bay Club. Ft. Myers: Fiddlesticks; Gateway; Gulf Harbour; Miromar Lakes; Renaissance; The Plantation; Verandah. The above list features some of the premier golf courses in SWFL and you’ll undoubtedly enjoy every round on them. I offer my sincere apology to the other incredible area courses that didn’t make this list, as many of them are equallyworthy of your time and money.

39

In my experience, though, the ones listed above are extraordinary opportunities for “Reciprocal” fun! Joe Morgan—better known as the GOLF HOME GURU®—specializes in real estate sales in Naples/Southwest Florida golf communities. He’s an 11-year winner of Gulfshore Life magazine’s “FIVE STAR Client Satisfaction Award”, and an annual “Top Producer” for Downing-Frye Realty Inc., in Naples, Florida. Please visit his ultracomprehensive website, GolfHomeGuru.com; and download his GOLF HOME GURU® App for iPhones, iPads, and Android devices. For help buying or selling in a SWFL Golf community, the “GURU” can be contacted at 239/438-6426 (Cell/Text), and Guru@ GolfHomeGuru.com. ®

Not your typical executive golf course, Oyster Creek, designed by Ted McAnlis, is both challenging and scenic. Accuracy off the tee is important as water comes into play on 13 of the 18 holes. Distance is critical on only a few of the par 4s, but even low-handicap golfers find they play to their handicap. Oyster Creek offers meticulouslymanicured greens surrounded by environmentally-protected natural wetlands. 6651 Oriole Blvd. Englewood, FL 34224 941-475-0334 www.oystercreekgolfclub.com
